All of my christian life I have been taught that all angels are of the male gender. I found a scripture that clearly speaks of two women angels Zechariah 5:9. If this is written specifically in the bible then why is it that individuals still teach and preach that angels are only males?

Generally, when the Bible means that a heavenly being was an angel, it calls that being an angel. Through the whole chapter the prophet mentions only one angel - the messenger who was guiding the vision. The Hebrew word means messenger (or ambassador, or prophet, priest or teacher) just as the Greek word does. God uses messengers to send messages. These are referenced as males at all times. There is nothing that says that other heavenly beings with which we are less familiar might not be female. It is debatable whether this vision was a heavenly occurrence or a visual form of communication, though. So it's pretty inconclusive what these winged women are and what (if any) role they have in the heavenly host. What is conclusive is that it would be inaccurate to refer to them as angels. The Bible says what it means, and prophets choose their words carefully. There is no room to go beyond what is said, especially when dealing with things we understand in such limited ways.

And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof [Zech. 5:8]-Let me give you Merrill Unger’s translation and amplification of this verse (pp. 96–97):Having announced concerning the woman, This is wickedness, thereupon he [the interpreting angel] cast her [the woman] into the middle of the ephah and cast the lead stone [weight] upon its mouth [opening]…. She has been all along sitting or dwelling in the ephah, contentedly, but now that the time has come for commercial Babylon to be removed, to be destroyed, the woman tries to escape from it, because she does not want to be removed with it, and so share its inevitable fate. Therefore, she tries to escape. Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven [Zech. 5:9].-Some time ago a movie was produced called “The Flying Nun”; so I call these two women the two flying nuns. But what do they represent? Well, we may be sure that they represent agents of evil because they are associated with and protective of the woman in the ephah—and the angel had said of her, “This is wickedness.” “They had wings like the wings of a stork”—that is, powerful wings. In Scripture the stork is not a picture of an angel. It is a 'dirty bird', an unclean bird. McGee, J. V. Thru the Bible commentary. (electronic ed.) Leviticus 11:13-"And these you shall have in abomination among the birds, they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, the vulture, the osprey, 14 the kite, the falcon according to its kind, 15 every raven according to its kind, 16 the ostrich, the nighthawk, the sea gull, the hawk according to its kind, 17 the owl, the cormorant, the ibis, 18 the water hen, the pelican, the carrion vulture, 19 the stork, the heron according to its kind, the hoopoe, and the bat."

I see no reason to infer that male and female references to angels means that they are like men or women in most respects. I tend to think when an angel appears how it looks is more for our benefit than a true static form. I say this because angels appear in many forms in the Scriptures.

aggalos (question) isn't that a 'masculine noun' like the word amigo means 'male friend' feminine/masculine/neuter is something we don't use much in the english language.

'...there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings...'(Zech. 5:9) '...each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew....'(Isaiah 6:2) I assume the fact that both had 'wings' and 'flew' makes them both 'angels' in some imaginations.
