What is the best free Bible study software? I downloaded E-Sword and it seems to be pretty cool, is this the best one offered?

I like e-sword. Did you get the one with all of the coded Strong's numbers on it?

I got the newest version, whichever one that was, it comes with the KJV and Strong's concordance I believe.

Anything free

I am not a scholar so I am not a good person to respond. I personally have Strong's, Thayer's and a Word Study downloaded. I also have Matthew Henry's commentary and a couple other free commentaries which I rarely look at. I also have Charles Spurgeon's devotional "Morning and Evening" which I start my AM devotions with as I wake up over my coffee

I was just looking at all he has on there now and I need to download some more because he has some great material on there.

John Gill's commentary interests me...any one have an opinon on his teaching?

I have also downloaded the NKJV version of the Bible and the ESV version. I only use those for clarification as I am a KJV person

Oh ok, very awesome! I was thinking about downloading one of the devotionals as well, and some commentaries too.

I think e-sword is a good program.

There is a few things it doesn't do that I wish it did do, but you cannot beat the price.

I have used it for about 5 years with no technical problems whatsoever.

Thanks
RC

Hi everyone, The free bible study program "The Word" is pretty good as well. I like it because it lets you create your own personal modules (beta version).

You can create your own modules in e-sword as well. There is a community out there (in yahoo groups) that writes their own import tools for bibles or commentaries and have a lot of stuff out there to download.

Count me as another happy user of E-sword. It is the best I have found, I bought the "deluxe" version of another software, E something, it was not cheap. But I like and use E-sword much more often.

Good luck with your study!

Probably not without chunking down some change.

The NKJV download at e-sword is $14.99.

Thanks

Yeah E-Sword is the best. My fave is the NKJV but as stated above cost some cabbage to buy. I don't know why but probably copy write issues. At least they cannot put a copy write on KJV Lucky for us the Bible was translated into English before copy write was invented it is almost as if God knew what was going to happen

I find it interesting that any version of the Bible can be copywrited since all version are done by plagiarism.

Thanks

Yeah, and then someone took William Tyndale's translation, distorted it to support their own heresy and then sold it as William Tyndale's translation. So, who knows how many people spent their hard-earned money to buy Tyndale's translation only to get a heretical fake. This is the reason why Bibles are copywrited.

By the time the KJV was translated copywrites were invented and the KJV was and still is copywrited. It's just that the United States stopped recognizing during the Revolutionary War.

e-Sword seems to be the winner here and I highly recommend it also. I also paid forth the money for the NKJV was well worth it in my opinion. I suggest downloading the KJV+ version which has the strong's numbers in it it is great for study having the Hebrew and Greek pop up on screen I love that especially when using it as one of my parallel bible versions. I also suggest downloading as many bible versions as you may be interested in. I love the HNV Hebrew Names Version it has a much clearer wording in many areas and less wordy at times leaving out a lot of the beginning ands (something used in some Hebrew texts to show separation of thought at times). One of the other nice advantages is when I am online I can pull up the bible on e-Sword quickly without waiting for download times or switching sites may not be important to most but if you have an old puter with slow dial up connection it is wonderful. You can also do searches using the Strong's numbers with the KJV+ so you can see where else the word is used and if it is also translated differently. Personally I downloaded 25 versions and i love to do compare to see how others translated the same verse. I still use some of my 22 printed versions especially ones that I don't have downloaded but the ease in looking up verses only knowing a part or few words is wonderful. I tried a few other software's that were free but they were rather limited in availability of use without buying other downloads to add to make them functional or to add translations. never heard of 'The Word' software would like to know where to find it.

This one may be better than e-sword, http://www.theword.gr/en/. It's also free.

I have been using beta 3.0, and have not gone back to e-sword.

Bible texts download

Not sure what you mean. The KJV has Strongs for both Hebrew and Greek.

Check this link for more texts, http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89078&package_id=93610.

I think it also has an importer for e-swords modules, that is for those that are free. Unfortunately, for some strange reason, many Hebrew texts are not free. I wonder why is that so.

Actually, this link is better for more downloads, http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89078. The Hebrew includes the Aleppo-Codex, Leningrad Codex, Modern Hebrew Bible, and Biblia Hebraica.

It can also import from The Unbound Bible at http://unbound.biola.edu/unibible/downloads.cfm

I remembered that I had bought a Bible Study program for my computer a year or so ago, so I downloaded that to my computer, it's Quickverse 2007.

Actually, it has real Hebrew support :)

Supports Hebrew in the Bible texts, Strong (you can display the original word instead of the Strong index), you can compare Hebrew Bibles with other language in compare mode (side-by-side), you can really search hebrew, ignoring case and diacritics, you can also write hebrew to search for (with a virtual keyboard). You can write hebrew in your notes and search them properly!
