I want to first off warn that I have a rough understanding of the doctrine of calvinism. If anything, i'm not looking for an argument, but for someone to clear up my confusion. From what I understand, calvinists believe that there are those who are pre-destined by God to be saved, and those who are pre-destined to be damned to hell. Technically, they therefore also believe that no one can have assurance of their salvation. This is because, if God pre-destined people to be saved, then that means that only he knows for certain who is saved and who is not. So according to them, if anyone says that they can know and can point out who is saved and who is not, then that person is claiming omniscience. However, the calvinists contradict themselves by claiming that they themselves are saved. Well what makes them so confident about their own salvation, if only God knows who is saved and who is not? Anyone care to explain? Thanks in advance.

It sounds as though you have'nt really studied on this but rather been told what you know by someone equally ignorant of the doctrines of grace. My suggestion is to actually make a study of it, go to a few of the numerous resources that are available. After some study it would make for a much more interesting discussion, as it would show a genuine interest in finding the asnwer to your question. The link at the bottom of my sig is a good place to start, monergism.com (just do a search of the site for doctrines of grace, predestination, or any other issue or question you may have) In His grip, by His grace.
