I havent thought about the good Dr in years. Did anybody here ever listen to this show?. I used to listen when i was a teen in the 70's. i came from a real small rural town and all we got on the radio was country, but for some reason we got this on Sat. nights and i used to wait just for this one show every week. Also, does he still have a show, or is he retired?

Yikes, Dr. Demento! I used to listen to his show almost every week back in the early 80's! I would tape the shows too! Lots of cool songs back then! Also, he was very intrumental in breaking "Weird Al" Yankovic as well!

My son was a big Apolegetix and Wierd Al Fan, something that had to come from my Sunday nights w/ Dr. Demento. I was so into the show that for a Jr. High Talent show I sang Dead Puppies followed up by my own version of SPCA (a parody I wrote based on YMCA). Long live the Dr. I have moved on since and my musical preferences are more along the line of Chris Rice (Cartoon Song rocks!), John Legend and U2.

I sang part of Dead Puppies for my docs the other day (they're younger than me and don't remember the show). For some reason, I guess they just didn't find it as amusing as I do.........guess you had to be there in the 70's. Do any of you know if you can find recordings of the show? or online clips? I did find one of Dead Puppies, but there are some others I'd like to find. Did you know that Tom Lehrer (yes, of the Lehrer news show) is the one that did Masochism Tango that Dr. Demento used to play?

I think I may have been told the wrong Lehrer. But he does some funny stuff, nonetheless. I really liked......ummmmmmmmmm..........the one about the Subaru.

That's the one, and I remembered the name......it's just not as tasteful as the music I listen to now......you know, classy songs like "Make A Little Birdhouse In Your Soul".

We listened to Dr. Demento just a few years ago, every Saturday night, until the radio station near us stopped carrying it. Favorites: Cows with Guns Viagra in the Water Standing on the Shoulders of Freaks

I got to see that also, both the A&E Bio and the video of Dr. Demento giving "Weird Al" his weekly piggyback ride as well.

Favorites: Cows with Guns Viagra in the Water Standing on the Shoulders of Freaks Ah, Shoulders of Freaks... Henry Phillips sure can be hilarious! , especially with one of his follow-up work, The Guitar Pill song (or something like it...). But with personal faves, it'll be just about anything by Weird Al, The Frantics, Royal Canadian Air Farce, Hello Muddah (Hello Faddah), the "I Smoke 2 Joints" guys, The Channukah Song (by Adam Sandler), some demented Christmas tunes (OOOHHHH yeah... ), and yes, Cheech & Chong! ...and that's just a tentative list, though I have to include the airing of Eric Cartman's rendition of Styx's Sailing Away! But yeah, I would love, love, love to find Dr. Demento back on the air sometime soon!

He is still on in LA, and I think you can download podcasts of his show, for a fee as well. He is still syndicated too, but on a much more limited scale. It was a big hit when Westwood One dropped his show a very many years ago. Some of my favorites that may not be as well know have been: Last Will Intestament-The Frantics Don't Touch That-Guns and Moses (a parody of MC Hammers You Can't Touch This) Hairless Sister-Grant & Elliot The Intro and The Outro-Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band We Don't Need Another Cola-Al Matthews (a parody of we don't need another hero, mixed with the massive soda variation craze of the 1980's) And then some of the more popular ones: Junk Food Junkie-Larry Gross Fish Heads-Barnes and Barnes Dead Puppies-Ogden Edsl Wahalia Blues Ensemble Mondo Bizzario Band They're Coming To Take Me Away (Ha Ha!)-Napoleon XIV As well as many, many others as well!

We all grew up listening to Dr Demento! My family has a warped sense of humor to start with, and the Dr's dementedness was food for the soul there. My kids love Weird Al and are always looking for others out there on the "Net with the same bent. They show me some of it, and on occassion there's a beaut of a performance that makes me laugh so hard I'll almost wet myself. It must be sheer heaven making a living doing something you love so much and are so good at. Long live the freaks of this world!
