Gene Upshaw, president of the National Football Leauge Players Association passed away today at the age of 68 of Stomach Cancer. He did try his best to represent players, but during his legacy as players association director, he did not really do anything to address really the fact that the older players in the leauge was not taken care of.

I rooted for the man when he played for Raiders teams that were actually worth rooting for. Reading his post player day resume, he was a leader on and off the field. My prayers go with his family, friends and fans who are mourning his loss!

Certainly feel for his family and note his accomplishments for the plaers. But the NFLPA may take this opportunity to bring in someone that will listen to a broader range of voices than Upshaw did.

Maybe this isn't the time to think about this, so close after Upshaw's death, but how is this going to affect the collective bargaining agreement in the NFL? Especially as it regards to the salaray cap (which I personally think has been a HUGE help in making the NFL popular by promoting competiveness among all the teams). If I remember right, Upshaw was against the salary cap, and once even said that if the cap ever went away, it was never coming back.
