My Grandpa Rozier died at age 43 (1933) so I never knew him. My grandpa Winn died on 17 Nov 1963 (I was 11). He was a kind man, full of humor, wit and love for his family.

Two sayings of his stick out in my mind: He used to say "That's the time, or that's the ticket" meaning he agreed with you. Later on, I found out he used to work as a conductor on a streetcar in Savannah, Georgia.

He also gave me some sage advice about planting a garden (I used to plant our garden as a young boy). He said, "Dig your hole, drop in three seeds...one for the birds, one to grow, and one to rot". Pretty good advice, I think. I still do that when I plant a garden.

How about your Grandpas?

Not relating to my Grandpa, but my Dad always used to say, "Is it the ticket?"

My grandfather used to tell me if I bit my fingernails and swallowed them, they'd get stuck in my appendix and I'd have to go to the hospital.

Grandpa was a butcher and I can remember him always telling us when we would try to pull the wool over his eyes on something to "keep your hands off the scale".

I didn't understand it then, but I sure do now.

My grandma used to tell us not to spin around in circles because we would get worms... To this day I don't know if she actually believed that or just didn't want us spinning and falling and breaking our necks!!

My grandparents and great-grandparents were alive when I was little.

I remember my gr-granny saying that a penny saved is a penny she didn't have to look for later.

There were tons of other sayings...not sure how many are relevent to Christian boards though .

Here's a few:
"One bad apple spoils the whole barrel."
"Spend one night with a woman and you are married to her the rest of your life."
"If you save a little money every week you will be surprised how much it will pile up."
"Bad company corrupts good morals."
"What you do when you are young magnifies what you are when you are old."
"Eat good and stay warm."

My Grandfathers passed on to their reward early but had some great sayings:

1. Grandfather the car dealer." stop using the electric windows they only have so many uses.

2. Grandfather the carpenter - fisher, after Grandma told him how the cow ate the cabbage, he said, well I guess its time to go fishing (you gotta be from the midwest to understand that).

3. Grandpa number 1. Only hoods and toughs stay out after midnite. I had a little tardiness problem when I lived with them and had the big motorcycle.

My favorite. I was buying bait with them one day, and I told the proprietor, my grandfather is a rich car dealer... he was poor like everyone else in the day.

EDIT: my biggest favorite. Aint no one going to buy the cow when the milk is free. All you younger folks figger it out.

My grandfather said when he was a boy attended a testimony meeting, where a young man gave a moving story of a conversion experience, accompanied by an account of deep, inner struggles. Afterwards my grandfather said to the young man, how wonderful it must be to have such a testimony.

The young man replied to my grandfather, Oh, it didn't have to be true, did it?

My grandfather just passed away a week ago and I've been thinking about this alot. When I was younger I just thought he was so much from a long ago generation that he didn't have a clue about life nowadays. The older I got, the more I realized he was ALWAYS right.

Except that for some reason...he had such amazing confidence in me.

"You can do anything anyone else can do, as long as they show you how and you practice."

"Think for yourself. You're alot smarter than you think you are."

"People go through hard times, but that doesn't mean they can't make it right again."

He always had the most amazing nack for figuring people out. Growing up when meeting my friends or boyfriends he'd say things like, "That boy's too fast," "Something ain't right with that girl, you better stay away from her." I never would believe him at first but in the end he had always had the pegged from the first.

My grandfather was a farmer. However, the thing that I remember most is going with him, grandma and my parents to the country church and singing "Revive Us Again" with power and feeling.

Grandpa and grandma's faith in Christ led my father and mother to take us four children to church and learn about Jesus.

Today, all I want to do is teach others about Jesus and how we can be more like Him.

My grandfather, a lay minister who was apparently politically-minded, passed away when I was 2 weeks old, but I remember something my mother said that he said: "There are 3 bad things that start with D: a dog, a devil, and a democrat." He was speaking of the repeal of Prohibition.

My dad, a WWII veteran who is a grandfather many times over, had some very interesting sayings that I've been thinking about lately since he's had sort of a stroke and can't talk much anymore:

"You'll never get any younger."
"Your legs are younger than mine." (Translation: Please get up and get me ______)
When teased about his baldness, he would say "The bears'll get you" (see 2 Kings, the story of Elisha) or "You can't have hair and brains too." or "It was all those daughers that made my hair fall out."

My grandpa is a farmer in a little town and a hick through and through!! The things i lvoe about him are the things he has in his pockets. He has the craziest things. Bandaids, pliers, tags that goe around a pigeon or chicken foot, eggs, string, teeth...(From the grandkids he pulled them out of), some veggies he has just pulled from the garden, change that he passes on to the kiddos around, all sorts of odds and ends of screws. He tells this story about this fish that he caught using the biscuit in his pocket, "cause you always gotta biscuit in ur pocket!!"

He is always teasing and coming up with goofy things, he had a friend of mine believing that his name was sherry too, and that he was named after me!!

He is a crazy man in his mid sixties, last year for christmas, he hitched up a ladder and stuck it way up in the tree out front, thats been there longer then he and way tall. He climbs up it with the chain saw gonig, just before dusk with some zip ties in his mouth and a determined look, he was going to put the wicker rudolph in the tree. He sawed off part of the limb looped the still going chain saw over the rest of the limb, pulled rudolph up from the roap wrapped around his waist and zip tied the thing up there, just before dark he got the red nose on and came down satisfied!
