Keith Henry & Berni Dymet - Authors

When The End of This Act Comes …

I don't know about you, but when I'm old and grey and toothless and incontinent and I look back on the life that I've lived, I want my heart to glow in the knowledge that not only did I discover who it was that my God made me to be, but that I lived out that identity, the personality and the gifts and the talents that He gave me, the life plan that He gave me - I want to know in my heart of hearts that I lived them out to the absolute full!

I want to know that there are people in this world who are the better for having known me. And when you're on your death bed, you can't ask much more of life than that.

Let me ask you this: as you contemplate the rest of your life, the time between now and when you breathe your last breath here on planet Earth, how do you answer these basic and yet profound questions of life for yourself?

1. Have I discovered who I was created to be - the blueprint of who I am?

2. Am I living that out to the full in my life - by doing the things I was created to do?

3. Am I singing the song of my dreams that God planted deep in my DNA even before time began?

Not yet and probably won't be ever totally 'complete', ever; Eternity and beyond. I have 'discovered' this present moment(actually this 'present' is the past quickly fading because time ever marches on)but always new challenges for worship, service, sacrifice and obedience affords themselves. Seize those and become them!

1. I'm a little gun shy of the word "Blueprint" when Christians are talking about where their life is going or should go. Too often, they use that word to mean that God has their life all "mapped out," He's decided where you will live, go to school, where you will work, who you will marry, how many children you should have, what ministries you should be involved with, etc, and it's up to us to discover what His "blueprint" is. I don't get any sense from the Bible that God regularly does this kind of thing. On the contrary the Bible is full of principles for living, maybe a more general blueprint you might say. We aren't told where to live, but what kind of neighbor we should be. While we are given guidelines about the who we can marry, God appears to be less concerned about the specific person than what kind of spouse we are. We're not told where or what kind of work we should do, but what kind of employee or employer we should be.

2. I think that I was created to worship God and honor Jesus as my Lord. I hope that I'm doing that. Beyond that, I am working in a field that I have a natural talent in and enjoy, I have a beautiful family that I very visibly put in God's hands, and I am serving my fellow Christians in my community with the talent I given by God.

3. I have no idea what this question even means.

Have I discovered who I was created to be? Well...yes. I don't always fulfill that role perfectly nor do I expect to until I pass on, but God gives me the strength to always pick my self back up when I fail and to keep on going.

1. Have I discovered who I was created to be - the blueprint of who I am?

yes. I know the gifts I have from God. all glory belongs to Him. I can do nothing of myself.

2. Am I living that out to the full in my life - by doing the things I was created to do?

This is the strange part. I seem to be in a holding pattern , being held back a bit from doing fully what I would like to do and from using the gifts He gave me. I am not sure which steps to take . Perhaps He is teaching me at this point in my life.

3. Am I singing the song of my dreams that God planted deep in my DNA even before time began?

I know my dreams. I know what I am here for (know what gifts He has graced me with). Yet I am not fully able to use them at this point. So I use them when I can, where I can and it seems He often leads me to people through the most unusual situations. So yes, I'm singing with tears. to Him alone be all the glory!!!!

Shalom Fritz.

1. Have I discovered who I was created to be - the blueprint of who I am?

YES, with many adaptations to the blueprint throughout my life, until I feel I know most of what is expected/demanded of me. My discovery is less, however, than God calls me to find, as I am not as smart as He be, or I desire to be, but am overjoyed He helps me be as much as I be.

2. Am I living that out to the full in my life - by doing the things I was created to do?

YES, but some of my doings end up as thinking's of doings, and never to the perfection I feel I should be performing, but for some reason always pleasing God. Go Figure. I find something new to share about my Jesus, that I may have something new to pursue, to learn, and to share, especially to those who have not yet signed into the Covenant with Jesus, and become part of His Royal Family. Yeee-Haaa!! Shining my light on the path.

3. Am I singing the song of my dreams that God planted deep in my DNA even before time began?

YES, I sing so much praise, and worship, and Love, be it voice, or heart song, my day is filled to the brim with loving him and my heart is filled to overflowing with His gift of love for me, which I share with anyone wishing, a sip, or a chug, or a guzzle. There is always enough available to give it as needed.

Though I cannot run the race no more, I can root the youngsters on. Though my lamp be dim and barely lit, I can still light up the path. Though my voice is worn, and raspy, I can sing my Praises True. Though my eyes don't see so good no more, I know He still sees You. I have writ my little ditty, and I'm humbly confessing, that though You offer up great love, Tis your heart receiving blessing.

In Him, I pray, He comes, this day. Amen. Arley

1. Have I discovered who I was created to be - the blueprint of who I am?

I don't think I could ever say this in the past tense, as if self-discovery could simply be accomplished and done with at any given time. For me, life is all about enjoying the journey. I see in myself a consistency in my overall demeanor and thoughts, but I am changing continuously here and there, a little bit at a time.

2. Am I living that out to the full in my life - by doing the things I was created to do?

Yeah, I would agree with this. I love my job, I am married to the most delightful guy, and I try to soak in all the little experiences.

3. Am I singing the song of my dreams that God planted deep in my DNA even before time began?

Uuum.....no? Not applicable

1) I'm a work in progress... I feel like I've had me described to me and I'm really excited to excavate and uncover me! But I do get discouraged not being sure exactly what area I should work on cleaning, learning about, discovering sometimes, because I look at myself and wow, what a pile of dirt is still to go! But as tired or discouraged as I get, as easy as it seems to walk away, I can't by any measure. Where would I go?? So yes, I'm under there. I'm looking, and I feel like it will become more and more clear in every area of my life (even ones I didn't expect initially) as time goes on.

2) No idea. In terms of the things in this world that God has shown me, given me, assigned me to in a way, I am working on it simultaneously and directly because I am trying to get to know God better and learn to listen to and love and be at rest in Him. All of 'my' interests and talents and jobs and hobbies and whatnot that before were things I saw as gifts from God that were now mine to just enjoy, I realize are talents (the money kind a la parable) that I am expected to invest and nurture and grow even if I don't know what I might do with them yet. They're hanging out in my life but they're not mine at all! See work in progress above I guess?

3) I always was jealous of those people who had dreams of what to do in their lives. I liked this and that, but I never felt called by God for a certain life, but that was probably because I was busy knowing of God but not asking Him to help me know HIM. Ahhh I wanted to be that kid who wanted to be an astronaut since they were 4! Yaaay! Hahaha... Now that I'm loads older I am almost willing to let go of my fear that what I think might be my calling, my dream that I'd been asking to have, is just my crazy childish emotional mind running away with me... who knows what they'll end up doing in the end, but I know that God is ridiculously patient and will show me what He has given me to want, what He has given me to have, and what He has given me to do for Him over and over and over until I see it for what it is. Auuugghhh hahaha work in progress!

Ahhh I'm so impatient, and let's be honest I want to get 'there', to 'that' place, some more mature, better understanding, secure and at peace place that from here is so far up it looks like the stopping point but I know that there's always growth and improvement to be had so I'll always be a work in progress.

I'd also like to go ahead and admit that I totally cried reading the ugly duckling story in the post. I cried at a fable from my childhood. WOW. On one hand I'm a little nutty right now, but I really am looking for who I will be, and I know that unless God gives me some sort of mirror to see myself as He does, I have no idea what I really look like. And sometimes it takes bowing your head in total submission to realize where God put the mirror. And God recognizes what you feel like when you feel wrong, mismatched, uneven, and lost, but through Him we can connect with who we are supposed to be without even knowing why we feel so lightened when we hear His sent message. And if we are His then yes we will never fit easily with those who are not, but in the end the joy is that we will be recognized by our own. And well anyway I just could not believe I got so much out of a story about a bird for kids....

Yes, after years of the "when I grow up I want to be a policeman, a fireman, a nurse" routine (insert female version), it came as a shock to realize that God wants us to "be" before we "do." We are forgiven, we are adopted by God, we are accepted in the Beloved.

So it's what I am, not what I do, that comes first. And what I am has been given to me, not earned or bought by me: I am God's blood-bought child.

I have been saved and made spiritually alive. Whatever I do is spiritual because that permeates who I am.

So where has God allowed me to be? I am a woman, I am human, I live in my country, I am married and a mother. I live in a circle of Christian fellowship that has it's focus in our church. So I take care of my husband and kid (I homeschooled until college), I interact with my neighbors and friends. I grow in my faith and keep my face in my Bible once a day to keep growing and learning. And God is glorified when I wash my dishes and pack my husband's lunch and send care packages to my college student. This is who I was created to be for today.

And I read on this forum and pray for people (my husband more than once has asked if I've fallen asleep over my keyboard. No, I'm praying ) and look up verses and grieve for people going through hard times, and I thank God that His everlasting arms undergird it all and He'll work it out. Praise to Him forever and ever!

My response may very well be a response to the reading of the link presented in the original email, plus...some

Training ourselves to take every thought captive would perhaps lead us to new discoveries and in Christ reveal to us mysteries. In our choices, exercising Christs-likeness, we glory in His glory. I hope that makes sense to someone. I am who God created me to be, I think, but my thoughts are not His thoughts. God's Word tells us to seek wisdom above all else and in our seeking get understanding. I think it would be great to understand our gifts clearly in order to honor Him more.

Not sure if these 3 questions were indirectly posed or just for personal reflection but I did go the extra step and read the link given. I was interested. I enjoyed and understood the concept introduced because I've seen the thread in the Bible with it taking two to get the job done if you will. There is a helper/helpmate, a conductor of good will, a good samaritan, sometimes we may be the "only Christ" someone will ever see (expression), learner and a teacher, giver and receiver, etc. The first time I realized it (this thread or ah ha moment)was when I used the real eyes God gave me to see real lies. That it can be done----alone. NOT! to be sure. The story was in one of the first few chapters in Acts; God uses/used someone to spur another one on for His purpose. There are many to list, but it is very late.

I did want to say thanks for the link, I can speed read thank goodness; on page 10-11 the excerpt of The Ugly Duckling was amazing. I was reminded of it and had not looked at it the same way that I do today. I was not taught it in literary terms or Christian worldview. That Christian Hans ____ had to be a really smart writer.

Jan
Take Every Thought Captive by Pratt is a book I started reading this week; it was pub. abt. 20 yrs ago as a study guide for high schoolers and up Christian Worldview.
