I love that particular paraphrase of Zechariah 4:10 (Online Bible), “Curse not the day of small beginnings.” Do you have a job that is “small”, maybe even unfulfilling? Do you dread going in to work? Can’t stand your boss? Does a minute seem like an hour? (Do I sound like one of those info-mercials? Just call in the next 15 minutes and we’ll double your order . . .!)
The Scripture says to “curse not” which means, in essence, do bless the day of small beginnings. When a situation has been blessed, it has pulled the best out of something. Have you blessed your job? Have you pulled the best out of it? How can you do this? Only with God’s insight and He speaks through His Word.
Philipians 4:19 (Online Bible) is a very familiar verse to most of us: “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus.”
Let’s dig a little deeper. The Greek word for need is actually defined employment. The Greek root word for glory refers to thinking. And the Greek root word for Christ refers to employing, or to furnish a need. The Greek word for supply means to fulfill or to “level up a hollow.” Ever leveled off a cup of sugar?
If you are actively employed, then God is telling you through this verse that He has filled a hollow place in your life with employment according to the way He thinks through the One who furnishes your need.

I am currently in a dead-end job. Trusting that God is using it for something other than paying my rent and denying me sleep is sometimes difficult. Still, standing in one spot and doing the same thing 2500 times a day gives me plenty of time to pray and sort through what God wants to sort through.
If this is a preparation, then most of the time I hope God breaks me, melts me, molds me, fills me and gets me outta here.
But I also remember that Corrie ten Boom thanked God for the fleas in her concentration-camp barracks, and then found reason to.

I'm in a dead end job with a co-worker who is controlling and wants everything her way. Recently I've found out about some absolutely horrible things that have been going on at high levels in the company, things that if they were to come to light would be really bad.
I hate it. I see absolutely nothing coming from it with the exception of God humbling me down to the ground. I have to publicly serve people who have been mean to me, get paid almost nothing, and I can't find another job to save my life. I am at a point where I never want to go in. It is Thursday, I don't have to work with my co-worker until Monday, yet I'm trying to find a way to get out of going - I can't call in sick (sometimes having integrity is a pain in neck) so unless I really get sick or something happens I have to go - and I repeat it is only Thursday.
So far, there are a couple of things that have been helpful:
1. I now have absolutely zero desire for any sort of recognition, fame, or anything else like that. Having seen up close what happens to people - well ... it turns my stomach now.
2. I now have absolutely zero desire for any sort of ministry anything. I don't put anyone on a pedestal. It is only about God - my walk has been purified.
3. I am writing now more than ever. I am spurred on to really tend to my own business and cultivate my own gift.

God has pulled me together and fine tuned my work ethic at some dead end jobs including a respect for authority. While I am still at a dead end job, God continues to teach me and grow integrity in me.

I can echo what rgod said, about not wanting any attention or recognition from those people. I was thankful for getting paid and making money though. and it taught me that even if I didn't like a job, to show up on time, do the work and treat others respectfully. One job was for a homebuilder; it taught me a lot of work goes into building a home and then being there for your customers afterward.
