I just had to say that Kate Gosselin was on Dr. Phil yesterday and I found her to be (as usual) condescending, egocentric, and of no real value to the conversation. She should not in any way, shape, or form to be considered an expert on the subject other than to say she has had a similar experience. She did not conceive her 6 babies through IVF, so I am not sure why she was even there, other than to pat herself on the back for being "extremely strong and very organized".

Not to mention that she is doing the very same thing that she practically condemned Miss Suleman for. Pot, meet kettle.

This is actually a spin-off of the "8 Babies" thread. I was wondering. I have heard of the Gosselin's. Aren't they the ones who have written a book about being blessed by God with multiple babies? I don't know anything about them other than that. I'm just curious why they come across so negatively.

They snipe at each other all the time on the show, at least the episodes I have seen. Kate in particular is a "difficult personality".

There is a lot of other talk about their show and the things they do but I haven't watched beyond the second season so I can't really comment on that.

The Gosselins had their twin daughters through fertility treatment and tried for one more baby. They ended up with six and now have a reality TV show on TLC.

I enjoy watching the show and find it interesting but I would agree Kate is really controlling and condescending. I feel so bad for John at times. Then again, I can't really judge since I don't have 8 children running around...though she seems to take it a bit to the extreme at times.

I like Kate but she seems really condescending and high maintenance. Sometimes I feel she tries to make the show more all about her though that could just be TLC's editing.

The kids are darling and both parents appear to love them truly though they could use some help with communication IMHO.

From what I've seen the negativity seems to be about who's supporting them. Many praise her for not choosing reduction and keeping all the babies and I have to agree with their decision, but some don't. The whole thing just seems weird to me. I don't know that I would want someone filming my family even if it were to make us some money. I don't like what I've seen Kate at all. I'm more of a duggar fan. That's just sounded so weird too.

Kate was at our former church as a guest and my friend told me that the producers won't show any clips on their church life and that bothers me. I realize that's it's not a "christian" show, but I don't think I'd agree to that.

Am I the only one who thinks Jon is like Kate except he's more quiet and passive aggressive about it?

I like watching the show. And I like Kate. She goes overboard sometimes but I like her quirkiness and outspokeness (sp?). She comes across as being sure of herself and determined to remain true to that no matter what. You gotta admire that.

I think I remember seeing people posting about how they don't like the fact that Jon and Kate don't have jobs other than this reality show. In fact, doing a reality show seems like quite a job to me. IMO they should get paid for it.

I don't have a problem with them getting paid or getting stuff because of the show. I do think sometimes they go a little overboard with the whole "Woe is me" stuff. It's silly to talk about how poor you are and how exhausted you are when you are *not* poor and have a nanny and all sorts of other services provided. I don't like the "we're just like everyone else" line.

I really can't say I admire Kate for her attitude. I have personally known three people very much like her and it is absolutely damaging to relationships, both with their spouses and children and anyone else who gets close. But I agree that Jon definitely snipes and grouches just as well as she does.

I don't watch the show very much but I remember seeing one episode where she was cutting coupons and then went grocery shopping and found all these savings. She was making herself out to be such a genius for discovering this way of doing it, and I remember thinking "uh-huh Kate, that's how a lot of us have been doing it for a while. You're nothing special."

I don't watch the show enough, or think they show us enough to truly understand who they are as people (I'm sure I'd come across much differently if I had 8 kids right now rather than 1 even though I'm still the same person) however, I still do enjoy the line from The Soup "stay tuned for a new show - John minus nine."

I like this show and have all the seasons on DVD. I do think they were more stressed and snippy when the babies were younger, you don't see it as much now that they are older.

They have never had a nanny. They did have a team of volunteers who helped when the babies were babies. They stopped them when the kids were much younger than they are now. I just read their book but I cannot remember how old the kids were.

They have shown them at church and giving back to the community more than once. I would not want my worship time filmed every week and I agree with Jon & Kate limiting that.

Jon worked until recently, for a while he telecommuted to work because he worked in the computer field. It may have seemed like he wasn't working but he was. Now, that their show is popular it is a full time job.

They are not filmed every day but they do have to do promotional things. If anyone was interested in seeing my family every week, I would do it. There are things that they can do now due to finances that they could never have done without the show.

If you read their book which is a more accurate background on them than you can get just watching the show, you would see their reliance on God and the struggles they have gone through.

Believe me, I am so much like Kate that if anyone watched my marriage and parenting on TV 5 yrs ago then I would have been insulted the way she is.

LOL! I'd be pretty proud of myself if I ever bothered to clip coupons for a grocery trip. The closest I get to clipping coupons is keeping the coupon that the machine spits out at me as I go through self-checkout.

I don't know how Kate is in real life and don't personally know anyone like her but she entertaining to watch on the show. There have been a few times she's made me cringe but overall I don't think she's that bad. I think she'd be an interesting person to get to know.

And I just love her hair. Wish I could pull off a style like that.

I love the episode a few years back...... well, I'm not sure when it was. They were getting ready to take all the kids on a trip. Kate was going to get her hair cut because it was bothering her by slipping in front of or on top of her ears. She kept tucking it back and saying "I don't have time to be doing this all day." I think about that when I realize that I'm tucking my hair behind my ears.

I like them, though the show can be gross, like when Kate was scapbooking photos of their first BM in the potty chair. Kate, seems amazing that she does so well in keeping her home clean though she is a little OCD. They are not the duggers, nor or the duggers the gosselins. It is kind of neat, to see people with big families and how they do things that sae time, money. They seem organized. BTW, I know no one compared them to the Duggers, but, a different iew of two families. I hae also watched a black family on TLC once, I loved them and they had five. There was no pretending anything with that mom, she was so real, and would bust their rear-ends.

As a believer, do you think Kate sets a good example for young married couples?

Nope.

I can't judge her heart but watching her tear into Jon made me cringe. That is what I have been trying to grow out of and avoid as a young wife.

Jon also can be mean, but in a reactive way. And I have trouble blaming him.

I do not know about exzample, I think she has some issues, but I do not see her as bad. I see her as very stressed, and now the kids are a little over maybe she will calm down.

Maggie, I have memories from my teens of christian couples acting like that and I just couldn't believe that they were pleasing God by acting that way. Teens do pay attention.

I think Kate has relaxed with the kids, letting them play more and not worrying so much if they get dirty etc. But I think her little comments to Jon are actually worse. I don't know she treats him like another child. The last few shows she has seemed to just make digs at every comment he makes. They used to joke around about it but now he seems more annoyed and rolls his eyes and stuff more. Their body language is different too, they seem to lean away from each other. I just have noticed a difference with them.

I live in the same county as the Gosselins, and while I have never met them, I have several friends who have. I have one friend who even volunteered in their home. Nobody in my little corner of the world has anything good to say about them. When they first announced the sextuplets, (and their decision not to reduce), I thought that they seemed kind of greedy, but still a neat family all in all. However, as time passed, many things came out about their entitlement mentality, even before the show began. I have only seen snippets of the show, quite frankly because I can't stand the way they treat each other or the children. They are not the only family in the world with sextuplets - or even tups and other multiples. They are certainly not the only family in the world with 8 kids. I understand that it is hard to raise kids (after all, I only 5). However, I think to use that as an excuse for how they treat people is wrong.

Here is an article from Philly magazine:

If you are on the fence, do some research. I think you might be surprised. I understand you can't believe everything you read - but Jon and Kate have proven that they are good at one thing - marketing their children.

That was an interesting article and doesn't really surprise me. They have changed over the last few seasons and I guess you can't really be the same there will be changes when you live your life like that. But Kate especially just seems to come across that she deserves everything she has. She has even said that her kids deserve that 1.3 million dollar home they now live in. For two people who do not have "regular" jobs they sure are doing quite well to be able to afford a home like that. And it is right it is all about marketing those children.

As soon as I saw that house they moved into. I thought this is it, I am done with watching this show. Great article.

Thank you for the link. Wow. What a shame. Kind of reminds me of Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, who have spent their entire lives in front of the camera. That cannot be healthy emotionally. I wonder how long this show will go on? Until the kids are adults? Sheesh, that's kind of Big Brotherish.

It is funny, I could not watch anymore when they went to Hawaii.

So I have not seen the show most of this season. I just think that they are getting to school age and really need their privacy. I am fearing what is going to happen to them when the real world hits. :(
