Hi all: Taking a slight turn.... Let us suppose you are talking to an alcoholic. You say, "you need to repent." Are you saying: a. you need to stop drinking b. you need to change your mind about God, Sin, and the Bible? c. a and b I am thinking, "c" is the most complete answer. What do you think? C

C I would not tell an alcoholic to repent. I would tell them about Jesus. It is their experiencing His love for them that will cause them to repent or not. ...and then I would be there for them. Peace

I would not tell an alcoholic to repent, I would not tell him about Jesus either, nor mention religion in any shape or form. Alcoholism is an illness. Some may wish to call it a sin needing a "religious" remedy. I dispute that. Alcoholism should be treated by professionals. So I would try to convince the alcoholic that he needs professional medical help. Then I would silently pray for him and ask the Lord to help him. You do not give a starving man a Bible - you give him food first.

C I agree that "c" is the answer. And I am not necessarily assuming that the alcoholic is not a Christian. In saying that "c" is the best answer, it is only a brief answer. Lots of work needs to be done with regard to that. Simply a brief answer might not be enough to help the person complete the process. And, no. Alcoholism is not an "illness," except in the sense that alcohol dependence causes ill physical effects and continued physical craving. The psychological causes are complex and not well understood by most of us. But the Bible makes it clear that the alcohol habit is sinful.

Are you saying: a. you need to stop drinking b. you need to change your mind about God, Sin, and the Bible? c. a and b I am thinking, "c" is the most complete answer. What do you think? I do not say to anyone they need to anything, I say consider this so consider this below Receive him in god's love, be a friend. listen, and if ever get to the problem, explain to him, her about alcoholism is nothing other than a misplaced dependancy. I have been dry now for 24 years. (was alcoholic for 13 years) It was a misplaced dependancy to get me through the day, onto the next day. When I changed my dependancy to Jesus Christ to trust him to see me through, the alcohol dependancy left, replaced by trusting God, I did not need alcohol any longer to see me through. This was the day also that I faced my Sister's death, saying today is the day I accept it and realise I have been drinking in order not to face the truth, she is dead on an overdose, that is reality. I lost all desire to drink that very moment I faced it, turning to God thanking hm for him getting me to see the truth. Also when I was at a meeting I said hello my name is Howard and I am now a child of God, not an alcoholic. Trusting God is the right placed dependancy. through his Son Jesus Christ. When one trust God in him then others will see that and they will also come to know him, through you trusting God to give you the right words at the right time, for the hearers to hear and believe unto salvation, being set free from the former life unto the new life, eternity ineffable love C

And it has and am still being processed through the fire, learning each and every day. (By the Grace of god there go I, you, and anyone else, believing yet or not) I am learning, getting to the point in thanking him in all things, good or bad, glorying in my iniquities, as paul preached on in 2 corithians 12, paul's thorn in the flesh ineffable love
