Please discuss age discrimination, poor health affecting the voting record and committee meetings of members of congress, and all thing related to the poll question. Should members of congress with serious health problems that will affect their showing up for votes and meetings be forced to resign?

I think, like in most occupations, the decision, for a member of Congress to retire, should be up to the individual and/ or those around him. Hopefully, if that person is of any good, he/ his advisors will know when it is time for him to retire from public service for the sake of the country.

I agree with term limits. Many of these career politicians who been in washington are the same ones who have been seduced by lure of dirty lobbyist and big business. Not really the root of our problems here in America, but one of the reasons. There are way too many career politicians on Capital Hill

Ditto on term limits. If you can't do something being in a job 8-12 years then you don't belong. Besides if it's good enough for the President, it's good enough for the rest of the bozos!

I agree on term limits. But I also think they ought to undergo detailed mental health examinations and drug tests as well. Some of them have just gotta be on something funny....

Term limits...if ya elect an old codger to represent you for the couple of terms allowed under term limits then you get what you voted for.

I agree, if it were not expensive and sure to invoke lawsuits. I highly doubt Kennedy will resign, even if his health is ruined.

I think there should be term limits not nessesarily age requirments though. I talked to a very alert 91 y.o. man yesterday who I am sure would have done a fine job as an elected official even at his age. That being siad there are definitely some members of both the House and Senate that have served for too many years and are quite old, that need to go as they don't seem to have any idea what they are talking about.

I have to separate from the pack and say I'd prefer mandatory retirement age at say 68 or 70 for anybody in public office. Politics is a stressful, nasty, dirty business and people should enjoy their retirement years with their families and grandkids. As far as term limits....not sure here. If people are willing to vote for the same candidate time and time again, they should be allowed to get what they want.

I think that two terms for Senators, and 3 terms for Representitaves would be sufficient. Thands RC

I dont support age limits as it is to arbitrary. If someone is getting their job done as a Congressman who cares how old they are. I dont support term limits as again it is to arbitrary. WHile there are some politicians who are corrupted by the years they spent in congress, there are also those who spend 20-30 years in Washington doing a good job and meeting the needs of their constituents. What I DO support is a min vote attendence requirement. I am tired of people barely attending congress while they go out and do other things (like run for President). This election we have TWO Senators who are going to barely be there for the rest of the year, and we had several prior to this this past year that never showed up. I think this needs to end. You want to run for President, fine, but dont do so at the sacrifice of your constituents representation in Congress.

I like the idea of minimum vote attendance, and I would add in minimum committee meeting attendance.

I'd disagree with any limitations placed on those offices that aren't already laid out in the Constitution. Besides, in most cases, the voters get exactly what they deserve.
