I have kids in Christian school. We have just started a Spiritual development commitee of parents and teachers. Anyone have any ideas on how to promote students standing up for their faith, uniting them, making right choices? Suggestions for bible studies for them, etc? Thanks in advance!

What do you currently have setup? Chapel? Bible curriculum? Do the teachers and other staff meet together regularly and pray?

Yes we have chapel and the teachers have bible class etc. The teachers are wonderful! I guess that we have been noticing (middle school and highschool) as new kids come in -there seems to be a gravitation to the ones not walking with the Lord. Kids standing up for what is right seem to be shunned. I know this is common--we were just trying to think of ideas to help them unite more and encourage them with their walk. Perhaps a bible study etc. It is a small school.

Do the kids have a designated time when they can get together and pray? At my daughter's public high school they have prayer group on Friday mornings before school. Everybody is there because they are committed to that and willing to put forth the effort to get there. The kids can encourage each other in their walks that way.

My son (8) also goes to a small Christian school, that I also attended.

Part of what our school has done this year is focusing on meeting needs outside of the school and church. Seeing others in need in the community and serving them. Kids don't need to be taught to be selfish, but they do need to be taught to think of others first. We've found that in coming together to do these service projects, the kids have also bonded with each other and the adults who are guiding them.

It may not be that more Bible study is necessary. In a Christian school, probably most of the kids are inundated with theory and may not be getting enough practical application of Biblical principles. I think that is the thing to focus on...the heart, not how much Scripture they know. In a Christian school, they are already getting the knowledge (and that's great!). What they need to get is the heart of God for others, including their families, their classmates, and the community.

On Monday evenings two of my daughters participate in a "Small Group Discipleship".....there are only 3-4 girls in each group, each headed up by an adult, and they have bible studies, devotions, "retreats", talk about "issues" that they have (which, at 10 years old, there ARE "issues")....

It's been a BIG factor in their spiritual development.

And, yep...our kids get together with bunches of other kids regularly to pray at school, as well. And, that has been instrumental in seeing entire families begin to attend church (since their children have been participating in "prayer times", and the parents have noticed the "positive influence" on their kids, from those participating in them.)

Thanks everyone! We were contemplating a Bible study during Chapel(hel weekly) maybe once a month so that every teen is in on it. Some of us do hold out of school studies. Not a lot come though. Does anyone know any good study for teens in this area I described?

How cool! I know we do this in our adult class, but sometimes we will do a "head to head" where we team up with someone and just pray. They can also put prayer requests on a list and each person can take turns one day praying out loud. It is intimidating for anybody who isn't used to it, but great for building that confidence in your faith.
