Just curious if there were any fellow Stephen Ministers out there . A great ministry for someone interested in coming along side those that are going through difficult times . Jim

I'm no longer active in the Ministry but was a Stephen minister for several years. A very good and useful ministry -- I highly recommend it for the minister and person who receives the support.

Our congregation is around 50-75 people depending. Every single family and individual is in need of help. Every single family and individual have problems, illnesses, griefs, and so on. I don't see how anyone could help anyone else at this point. We are all hurting to the point that we couldn't help anyone else. I need help and don't get it. I sure know that I'm not able to help anyone else. This might be a good program in a church that has hundreds of members, and many with stable lives.

So you are all so wrapped up in your own issues that you are all paralyzed and do nothing for one another? That is very sad. The very thing that will bring healing to all of you IS reaching out to others who are hurting and in need in spite of your own pain/needs. Unless someone steps out and does that, you will remain as you are. Be encouraged, the change your church so desperately needs can begin with you. 6 “ Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? 8 Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. 9 Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’ “ If you take away the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, 10 If you extend your soul to the hungry And satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, And your darkness shall be as the noonday. 11 The LORD will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. -Isaiah 58 If I'm not mistaken, the ministry that the OP mentions is just the duty of the church as it should be wrapped in a "Stephen Ministry" package. Edited for spelling.

We are all hurting to the point that we couldn't help anyone else. I find this quite strange. At our church it's often the ones who are hurting who are most willing to reach out and help another, even if it's "just" by praying for them. I am sorry you're not getting the help you need from the "flesh and blood" people around you, and pray that God Himself will meet your needs.

MODERATOR'S NOTE :: ATTENTION PLEASE The OP asked if there were other Stephen Ministers here. Please keep the thread on topic--meaning if you are not a Stephen Minister, this is not the thread for you. Asking what it is and providing a link is one thing (and okay), but the off-topic posts about "no one can help anyone else" and "Who needs a website? Just read the Bible" are off topic and disruptive. Please find another thread to post in if that is the extent of your contribution to this one. Thanks. Please do not reply to this message within the Community. Please do not send me PMs regarding this message. Please email Community@salemwebnetwork.com with questions, comments, or concerns.

My church had Stephen ministry, but we moved and I wasn't involved. I did like that the training part of it took several months; that sort of thing tends to draw people who are really committed. (And I think you had to agree to be a Stephen minister for two years. Something like that.)

It sounds like a great ministry. Kat_D totally misunderstood what I meant, but I will not discuss it on here in obedience to the Moderator. We do, however, all reach out to others in need.
