My preference is the one prescribed in Deut. 6: ". . . teach them diligently to your children, talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up." Also, I do not think the Scriptures recognize what we call "teenagers". The Scriptures speak of adults and children, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters. Rabbinics and ordaination are extrabiblical. The idea of a half-responisible persons is not a biblical concept, in my opinion. We need to treat "teenagers" as both our children and adults from the time they become able to make life changing decisions until death do us part. Therefore, a child's parent is the best "Teen Bible study" in word and deed. To delegate this responsibility to the state, peers or even "spiritual leaders" is a violation of the Scriptures in my opinion.

i have been considering starting this myself - my idea was to start reading into proverbs, thru the introductory stuff. then, to start reading just a couple or few proverbs, then ask the teens: what does this make you think of? and from that, apply it to real-life. i owuld expect teens to come up with examples where a friend behaved foolishly, etc. then comes the delicate art of recognizing foolishness in others, but turning the focus onto 'self.' (plank in the eye). hopefully, we would eventually come across some good examples from our household - for example, that parents basically are supposed to provide guidance and discipline; also, note proverb wisdom like: value of not spending money foolishly, not being a drunkard, not being lazy, and note how (hopefully) we parents live by this wisdom. but the more that the kids can come up with examples, the better.

I anticipated that just making that statement might be confusing. So, I elaberated. In deed Soloman himself tells us how best to study the proverbs right there in the beginning. "Hear, my son, your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching for they are a graceful wreath about your head and orniments around your neck." Adonia does say, "The sins of the fathers are visited upon the sons to the third and fourth if those who hate me." However, He also promises that His blessings will be bestowed to the hundredth generation of those who love Him. So, though there is some risk of false teaching from a parent, the Scriptures do teach us that father knows best, to coin a phrase. Who best to warn and direct a child regarding hereditary weaknesses than the parent who has indured thoses trials? Sorry, if you were offended. I tend to be a little straight forward at times. The physicians study the amount of ointment And to heal children, the proper placement. However, a mother's gentle touch and a father's firm hand Heal in ways they do not understand. A proverb of bluethread.

What if they don't have one or the other parent in the home? I do agree with you by the way, but this is the predicament in most homes.

The Scriptures tell us to care for widows and orphans. I believe, we are to do this by inviting them into our families. However, to take nonophans out of the family setting and have them interact with people who are not part of their families is not productive, in my opinion. One of the reasons this predicament exists in most homes, if that is indeed true, is that we do not hold adults responsible and provide cradle to grave daycare.
