Would be interested to find out what issues will be most prevalent in the minds of folks round here when they cast their presidential vote this year. I've picked out the 8 that seem the most relevant. Because all could matter, I'll suggest that everyone just ticks their top three. (Also suggest non-Americans simply assume they are voting...) And I'll couple the poll with a question. Across the whole electorate, moral issues always features as a strong determinant of how someone will vote - e.g., they'll vote Republican mainly because that party is more opposed to abortion; issues like the economy or healthcare are then of secondary importance. But what's puzzled me before is that any presidential pick is unlikely to affect (using the example above) Roe v Wade - you'd have assume a place in the Supreme Court will be cleared so they can appoint a pro-life judge, and there are several steps beyond that. So in summary, I'd like to understand why voters seem to attribute great importance on issues that any president is unlikely to have an impact on, instead of choosing based on factors that will definitely affect them - like economic policy - and where the candidates certainly differ. I'm not saying moral issue voters are wrong, merely that I don't fully understand their motives. Many thanks. AiP
