Hi TV and radio buffs, During my lunch hour, I checked American Movie Classics and Turner Classics, to see if Yankee Doodle Dandy, was going to be aired over the next several hours. Well, if one wants to be up at 2 a.m. eastern time, you can view it but forgot which date it will be aired. Otherwise one of those is showing the Jaws series from the 1970s, sheesh what happened to good old fashioned movie patriotism on the tube? I guess I have to settle for Rush, Sean, Lou, Wolfe, and the other modern news stars out there in TV land if I want to be patriotic; guess there's always Wimbledon? Hmmm. To those of you in the US, Happy Independence Day and to the rest of our allies, likewise expressed. Anyone share my "miftness"?

History Channel and its sister station History International have had American Revolution based programming all day today. HI has a marathon about Washington's Generals (which includes a couple of non Americans) and HC has run portions of its miniseries "The Revolution" and a documentary on Ben Franklin. They also had a couple of hours of Liberty's Kids cartoons (6-8 AM, turned out to be too early for me). Also, newly minted American Craig Ferguson hosts the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular tonight at 10 on CBS.

You are right though, 4th of July programming does appear to be a bit sparse. I didn't look vey closely though and there may be subtle connnections to patriotism. All holiday programming is down. Many stations prefer to do marathons on holidays. I guess they figure many can TIVO "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and many more can watch the DVD (I'm assuming one exists) for those who want their patriotism fix.

Its all about making every last little bit of profit, not about havig appropriate programming on special days. And it is a business so I see that side of it. So yeah I wish there was more holiday based programming on all holidays but it is what it is. But if you can check out the History Channel today I think you may enjoy it.

I think the combination of July 4th being on a Friday this year has resulted in sparse TV programming and also few to no movie openings this week.

Hey, I'm a huge JAWS fan, so I can't get too mad at AMC....but it is a strange choice for July 4th....

I was at a pool party/cook out and then to the city's fireworks display. Wasn't at home to watch TV.

This doesn't surprise me. Look at how many times AMC and TCM have played horror movies at Easter and Christmas times.
