Today I picked some blackberries from the backyard (yep, they're bursting out all over again!) and made some blackberry pecan whole grain muffins and some cinnamon peach ginger whole grain muffins. Andrew will be bringing most of them to work tomorrow.

WHOLE GRAIN!?!?!?!
Why oh why would you take a perfectly good guilty pleasure like blackberry muffins and 'california' it up by adding whole grains, thats like putting carrots in cake?!?!?!
Have fun in Reno....dont loose too much money

Catherine and I are working out the details for Saturday, it'll be great to see her again, maybe see Matt as well :)

Ryan, I admit to being corrupted by California...whole grains, fresh produce, olive oil, bean sprouts and even....***GASP*** tofu!!!!

There's still hope, though...Andrew wants me to make this recipe, I'll likely do it in the next week or so.

Carrot cake is good...I wonder if it could replace the zucchini in this recipe...I wonder if I could make it using whole wheat flour!!!

I had carrot cake earlier on in the week. I hadn't had carrot cake in ages before that.

Carrot cake is yummy, as long as there are no raisins in it

I bought some ripe bananas at superwalmart this morning and am planning to make whole grain banana pecan muffins :P

I'm getting things done around the house slowly but surely, and have made calls to two temp agencies today. I have to go sign on with one on Wednesday morning, and am waiting for a return phone call from the other.

Saturday is just around the corner! I'm really looking forward to seeing Catherine, maybe a little more so than I am to the wedding and reception, mostly because I don't really know anyone but Andrew. I know it's important to go and continue getting to know his family, but it's pushing my comfort zone a bit. Thankfully I have a really cute outfit to wear along with my new Anne Klein prescription eyeglasses, so that'll help :)

I know how you feel about going to weddings where you don't know anyone. I have been to three this year. If not for the lure of Disney World, I wouldn't have gone to the one in Florida.

I agreed to go to a wedding this summer where I won't know anyone, not even the bride and groom. I'm going to have to force myself to go, I think.

LOL! The whole article was pretty funny.

Hey Kimberly, glad you got together with Catherine!!

A friend asked me to go to a 'joining ceremony' of her supervisor to her same sex partner. Then she said it was going to be performed by a wiccan priestess. I just looked at her and she said, " I didnt think so"
Come to think of it, it might have been interesting, a spirit filled, tongue talking charismatic, going to a bunch of witches.....

We did have a very enjoyable lunch with Catherine and Matt, and the restaurant was great! It was a mexican place that had fantastic flour tortillas - their other food was good, too :) I hope I didn't talk your ear off, Catherine.

Andrew's cousin's wedding was nice, and we enjoyed the reception, too. the only drawback for me was that it was in a casino where they allow smoking - only on the casino floor, I think, but it drifted EVERYWHERE. I simply can't breathe that well around cigarette smoke. To make matters worse, on Saturday Reno was covered in smoke from the California fires and we had to deal with that when we left to drive home.

Sunday was a very busy morning. I had to set up the coffee and donut tables, and it was also the first Sunday for me and Andrew to help in the nursery. There were only two babies, both around 1 year, so it wasn't that difficult thankfully. I ended up taking a 2+ hour nap on Sunday afternoon.

Tomorrow morning I'll be at one temp agency getting tested and signing on, then Andrew's parents will be in town overnight on their way to Oakland to visit some friends, and we're going to take them out to dinner for Andrew's mom's birthday.

Thursday morning I have testing at another temp agency, then I need to pick up Andrew's parents and drive them to the train station.

Hopefully I'll have an assignment on Monday and will be working consistently.

It's been sooooo hot here. The forecast for today is 110° and very smokey. I don't plan to go outside very much because of the smoke.

Ryan, I think I'll stick with beef and turkey jerky for now :P

Alton Brown does rock! I hope he does another road trip show this summer. Those are the best.

Joining ceremonies...bleah. And now we have to deal with gay marriages here in California! I tell you, as much as I love California, I also hate it. It's good that there's so much to love about it, though...I think this is where God has us for now. We need to be a light in a dark, dark world, and California seems to be about as dark as it gets in the US.

It was at Boomtown, Catherine.

It's been really smokey here today and yesterday as well. I should see if some of the photos I took turned out and post them. Visibility is under 2 miles at my best guess.

Hi Trish!

Steve, that was a great Lileks column :) I don't listen to Hugh much at all, but I do like it when he has James on.

Photos of the smoky skies around here

Some photos of the hibiscus I planted in our backyard along with some other flowers, including a bleeding heart vine :)

The site seems to be running really slow right now :(

I love the color of the flowers on the hibiscus bush I bought at Walmart. It's a very yummy color!

You'll have to go to the photo album to see it:

All the major fires are 1 to 2 hours away from us, and the smoke is drifting southward into the Sacramento valley.

Here's a map from the California State Office of Emergency Services showing the major fires in this region:

Paradise is not the place to live right now...I think the entire town is in danger from the fires, and they've evacuated lots of residents there.
