The air con is working. You can still feel a lot of the warmth in the air though. We lost power briefly. I'm scared we're going to end up having blackouts. We have the last few years. Everybody having their air con on to cool down and it drains the grids too much, then we have no power at all. Have been invited out to friends' this afternoon. It's already 38 degrees. I hope their air conditioning is working.

The one and only time I've had my hair dyed was when one of my housemates dyed my hair red. I kept seeing red dye coming out in the shower, so I kept washing. She was disgusted because I'd got most of the dye out, but you could still see some of the red. People liked it. It's not a decision that I would make for myself though. As it was, she pretty much forced me to get it done, and as she was the colourist.... I'm supposed to be going out in a few minutes. I'm trying to decide whether to go. It's pretty hot, 41+ outside, but at the same time, we're not sure if the air con has overheated. In any case, it's not working right now. To go out, or stay home. That is the question. Thankfully we still have some fans that work. Not the same as air conditioning though.

Beach day tomorrow! Me and my friends are heading down to victor habour for the day...it's gonna be such a nice day! I love beach days. Hope your air con is still working Trish! My room has been pulled apart for painting. Dad is gonna do it while I'm out tomorrow and then on Sat I'm helping him with the second coat. So I'm hoping I can still sleep in it the next 2 nights.

I'm so thankful that it's been so much cooler today. It was 34 degrees instead of 44+. Amy, the husband of the couple I live with used to live in SA. He used to holiday down in Victor Harbour a lot growing up. His sister lives there now. He remembers the beach very well. I told him you were going there, and the first thing he said was, "Lucky thing".

This year's been a really hard one for me in a lot of different ways, including healthwise. This year, my brothers move to the Gold Coast. I don't really know them even though they are my brothers, and I know their kids even less. It may be an opportunity to get to know them better now that we all live in the same country. Joan's birthday is in a couple of weeks, and so that will keep me busy. She's wanting, if possible, for us to go down to Tasmania together for 3 weeks around September/October for a belated birthday celebration. I've put my request in to go jetboating down the Huon River, something I've never done before. It'd be the most daredevilish thing I've ever done in my life. Did I mention that I hate being in boats? I don't know what's got into me. We'll see how that goes. At this point, we don't even have the finances to buy a car, and John and Joan's has REALLY died this time. There's no ressurrecting this Lazarus. I don't know what this year is going to hold for us, or me.

G'day and kiaora all how we all going in this new year ? Fine I hope. This year I received a card from a Glenda #*#*#&*. Didn't know the name and it started out "I don't have many uncles so I'm touching base with you..." Ok, this must surely be a sting , right? Of course. Anyhow I answered it and blow me down - it was a niece of mine that ran away from home in 1968/70!!!. Anyhow we're exchanging emails now and having a great time catching up on time. Her father died down in Melbourne this week so I will most likely see her then. Nothing else much happening. Business as usual God bless you all and each, buddy P.S. temperatures have been cooler than usual for this January. Hope you survived the heatwaves and the blackouts Trish.

Hi everyone, i always forget this thread is here.... Victor Harbour is beautiful, lots of fun childhood memories of holidays there. Too bad I am on the other side of SA now and have only been to Victor once in last 6 years I think!! Ugh I am sick of channel ten putting movies on that were already on in the last 4-6 months!! Love actually, uncle buck, about a boy, some weird space movie with jeff bridges just to name a few (not that I don't LOVE about a boy and love actually, but come on 2 times in 4 months!!)

Welcome Crystal. Good to have you join us. What part of Oz are you from? I'm in WA. Did anybody do anything for Australia Day? I didn't. Wasn't feeling well. Buddy, sure is hot around here. I'm looking forward to cooler temperatures. Are you anywhere near the flooding?

Just happened upon this forum. . .I'm not a Kiwi but my bil is from Auckland. We have been to both islands---ten years ago and absolutely loved it! I was ready to sell everything and move down under. Anyway, just thought I'd add a g'day to you all!

My husband. Of course, almost anytime I travel, I'm ready to sell all, pack up and move! Not always though. I love Vancouver, BC which is a similar climate to NZ---temperate rainforest. But I have no desire to move to SanFrancisco, Seattle or St. Louis. Is it a thing with 'S' names? Anyway, we did love NZ. I could easily live in Christchurch. We did not get up the far northern peninsula? of the north island. So on our next trip we plan to take that in. My goal was to try and eat every variety of wonderful ice cream treat that I found in NZ. I came close.:) They were very wonderful! We live in the middle of dairyland but our ice cream treats/variety/quality does not compare---in my humble opinion. Anyway, thanks for the welcome. I'll check in from time to time to see what's up. LL

I have to say that I miss some of the New Zealand icecream flavours. Icecream tastes different over here in Australia. Actually, even the chocolate tastes a lot different between New Zealand and Australia. New Zealand has much richer chocolate. They've got better milk there.

They certainly know how to make and market their dairy products! Go, NZ! In this country we have so much erroneous low fat hype and too many oversized people. Part of our many problems. . . But anyway, we certainly enjoyed our NZ visit and hope to return to the land down under in the future. Have not been to Australia but have an acquaintance living there. And we met four Aussie women when we took the train through the Canadian Rockies back on 2001. We called them 'The Chardonnay sisters'. They were delightful...from Sydney.
