thank you for setting my mind at rest. i guess because we "tried" what i "thought" was nfp (w/o much reading or any conviction) and we ended up pregnant twice i didn't want to try again. but i do have conviction about it this time.
on a more technical aspect: do you find that the more you do - ie. cm, cervical checks, and temps - the more reliable is it? do you find that once you've gotten used to your body, its easier to do and you can rely on one or two aspects, rather than all three. i know i sound like i'm already setting myself up to fail by finding the loopholes. i just don't know if i want to always be thinking about NOT having a baby. i'd just like to let it slip my mind at this point. but i can't do that or we'll be expecting in 3.4 seconds - knowing our fertility track record of 7 periods and 2 babies since we've been together. good grief....

well, I would say that over years of learning about my own body yes I have started to be able to tell things by not all of the methods combined...however, I am not one you should follow...we are expecting baby #5 next month and we have never used these methods really to NOT get pregnant. I have used it to GET pregnant, and that worked...however, most of our mindset the last few pregnancies has been more of "in God's timing" kind of thinking and we pretty much gave up charting and trying or not trying. So like I said, I am not one to follow, but to answer your question, yes I can tell with not all of the signs when I ovulate. (The biggest problem with leaning on that though if you do NOT want to get pregnant is that you don't know until you ovulate and sperm can live for several days after it has been released...so there is always that possibility of it doing it's job.)

I've never "gotten" the cervical checks - I could never differentiate. But I do temp and do internal mucus, and it has worked for 2.5 years.
However, I will say that I don't know how fertile we are. We... enjoyed each other... at the most inopportune time one time each in the last 2 months (we just couldn't resist!) and didn't get pregnant, so maybe we're not as fertile as we could be.

Most people I know can rely on the CM and temping, and don't use the cervix check as anything more than a cross-check if at all.
DH and I used nfp/fam for over 2 years, we've now been "freestyle" (no charting, just doing whatever) for close to 2 years, and no pregnancy. Now at this point I couldn't honestly say that the first 2 years were due to nfp/fam and not problems with the plumbing  , but that's my $.02

I've never been a cervix checker either. I think my internal anatomy isn't well suited for checking such things. I always did temping and internal mucous. I've found internal mucous to be enough to judge when I'm going to start my period too, so temping went the way of the dodo after a few months.

I used to check my cervix, but couldn't really tell the absolute difference. Well, no, I take that back, right around ovulation I could. It was really different then. But before and after, nah. It all seemed the same to me.

Been taking a break from CW, but I'm back.
And...DH and I are officially trying. I'm able to have sex without serious emotional drama (finally), and I'm attempting to chart. Yea :)

Not sure where this questions goes...but you guys are sup informed about femal anatomy...
My sister has endo pretty badly. Several surgies, 5 years of infertility, ALARMING amounts of pain. Some of her pain occurred when she goes to the bathroom (both).
I started my period at almost 16, and at 19 went on BCP because I was bleeding between periods. I stayed on BCP until about two years ago (27). It took about 18 months to get regular-ish. (I wasn't very regular before the pill, either).
What I'm noticing - and remember from my pre-BCP days - is that part of the overall cramps the first day is a cramping/buring kind of pain, well, in my bum, I guess, in the rectum (?). It hurts to poo that day, too.
Is that normal or is it associated with endo? My sister's seemed to be so bad that she could barely go, and this is pretty unpleasant and painful, but not like that.
I know that endo has a genetic link, and we are officially TTC. If this is a symptom of endo, I'd like to get on top of it now. My mom and sister also have histories of infertility, and I'm almost 30, and I know the stats. I'd like to stay ahead of the game if possible.

If you are talking about that being a one day of the month symptom, then it doesn't sound like endo to me. I have an agressive form of endo, and when I have had trouble in that area, it generally goes from ovulation through the first couple days of my cycle. But call and ask your doctor what he/she thinks.
An ultrasound will not show endometriosis, but might show cysts which can be related to endometriosis. Endometriosis can only be definitively diagnosed after being seen through laproscopic or open surgery. If that is an issue, they can guess at it, but can't know until it is seen.

I have a question about hubby's. Are all of yours totally "in" to nfp/fam or are they nervous about it?
I ask because my fiance seems really supportive sometimes but every couple of weeks he makes a comment about going on bc. I told him months before we got engaged that I was not doing any sort of hormonal bc EVER because of a horrible experience (for "girl problems") in high school and the abortifacient risk. I know that last one is sometimes debateable, but I just cannot get past the possibility for that. I've explained how that works, but I think he frequently forgets... Anyway, I've sent him links to info about the abortifacient qualities in bcps but I know he hasn't looked at them. I've told him that all bcp's risk extremely negative effects on weight/depression/libido but it's almost like he doesn't believe me. Sometimes he gets really excited about charts and all that kind of stuff but last night he made a comment about how I should try lots of bcp's before I decide against them. I'll talk to him about it today, but I'm wondering if it works to do NFP/FAM if the husband is questioning it. I'm not taking anything that might mess me up when he's the one who is actually fertile all the time I think I just need a little reassurance on that.
Has anyone used any of the computer-thermometers like Lady Comp or "Sophia" that do your charting for you? I can post a link if anyone is curious. I'm thinking about ordering one.

My hubby was all for the charting when he saw what hormonal bc did to me phyiscally. His thought was, a baby is better than this! He is so into the natural way of things. I'd say just ask him to give it a shot for a while, while using condoms or something, till he gets more comfortable with it. My best friend got married in July and her husband was for it, but very wary, so they used condoms for a while and then started 'experiementing' without them at the beginning and end of a cycle. KWIM?
I used Ovusoft for like 3 months. Then got pregnant. But I really liked it! I did use fertility friend for a while before that, the cheapy version and it worked ok too. I did like the advanced features of ovusoft though.

I'm with you, Kathryn. I will never do bcps again since I don't have such horrible pain with periods anymore. Got used to charting (fertility friend) while ttc for so long, so we'll probably do that with a diaphraghm (sp?) for my fertile times.

My then husband was very nervous about it. So much so that my going off the pill was in defiance of him initially. But my mood and my happiness was more important, IMO. I was amazed how much more interest I had when I was off the hormones. I had no idea was the pill was doing to my body. Man I am so much happier not on it.
every now and then I think I want to go back for my menstrual issues, but then I think about what a brat I was on teh pill and realize that I don't want to do that again.

DH was somewhat confident in NFP, but we mainly used it for TTC. We were avoiding the month that we got pregnant because my SIL had a miscarriage and we didn't want to make her pain any worse. But, God had other plans 
Anyway, I find it is easier to be on bcp, which is what DH requested and not have to deal with cysts and PCOS symptoms. I do still chart, and we use condoms during my potentially "fertile"(haven't ovulates since I've been on them) time. The Nuva Ring really doesn't have side effects for me, other then 2-3 days of nausea when I first insert it.
