I got an idea that I should start the Kingsmen thread. This thread is a place to talk about the Kingsmen and other stuff like that. You can also ask questions about the Kingsmen and their former members.

You might have to get permission from the moderators before using the word "official." They do care about such things.

I believe you have two options:
1. PM Ps103 or any of the other moderators
2. Click the edit button for your original post and re-enter it with the new title. I don't know if this works.

The term that they definitely do not want regular people using is "one-stop." I believe they might have had a problem with a person using another term that implied that it was the only thread where you could discuss the topic.

One thing to keep in mind--if they say yes and deem it the official thread, you might not be allowed to discuss the Kingsmen anywhere else.

I've been listening to I Rise Up From My Grave from the Singing News CD I got when I renewed last month.

Does anybody know who the front line is on this one?
Ray Dean Reese is a given, and I think Tim Surrett is the solo part, but I'd love to know who else.....especially the tenor....

I would guess that the tenor is Chris Collins.

The Kingsmen did it on their 1994/95 Ridin' High Album. Gary Sheppard either left in '93 or '94, and Chris Collins replaced him.

Here's a link to the album cover to see if you can figure it out:
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/9e/e1/4296b220dca0f391b3549010.L.jpg

If you don't recognize Gary or Chris on sight, just wait for DJsfromCleveland to log on and I'm sure he'll know. I don't really know the answer, but I'll do everything I can to point you in the right direction.

You're welcome. I wish I could have given you a definite answer, but hopefully I at least got you started in the right direction.

That song is on "Ridin High" and the tenor was indeed Chris Collins. Tim Surrett was the lead and Parker Jonathan was the baritone at that time. That is a great song which I believe was written by the late Jack Toney.

Yes, along with his wife Gail.

JimC--how neat that you get to see some of the retired greats live and in person. I've already pretty much accepted the fact that I'll never see Jim Hamill with the Kingsmen in person. How likely is it that he would come to northern Ohio to appear with the Kingsmen?

Hey JimC,
Would please take some pictures of the Kingsmen that night with Gary Shephard, Jim Hamill, and Randy Miller. I would greatly appreciate it.

I am so priviledged to say that I got to see Jim Hamill perform with the Kingsmen live at the Waycross All-Night Sing(outdoor venue at the time). This was back in 2005 and I got Jim Hamill's autograph.

Speaking of the song ...."I Will Rise Up FRom My Grave", yes it was Chris Collins on tenor , with Ray, Parker, and Tim Surrett. They preformed this song on the Gaither video entitled "Something Beautiful". I just watched it yesterday, its a great video!

I was priviledged to see Jim Hamill with the Kingsmen in person many times, he was great. I wanted to see him this year at the NQC, but when i was there Monday night only, i don't think he was there yet. I see in the Singing News, that he released a new CD this year, and also hear he will have a live DVD.

I saw the Kingsmen on Saturday. They seem to have gotten lost on a lot of their songs. They tried 4 times before they finally got "Love Will Roll the Clouds Away" off the ground. Jason Selph was playing bass guitar.
