I am going to try and be brief here. I don't want to seem selfish. I have been praying for months on an issue and I am in the hopes that some of you kind folks may join me in my prayers. I was raised in the home of a minister, saved at 14. I always sang in church, both in choirs and as a soloist and as a young adult with some local quartets. I have always felt a calling for this ministry, but I ran from it. About three years ago, I began to seriously explore this when my wife and I became friends with a family in our town. They had a 20 year old son, who had been contacted by Bill Gaither. He has been on stage with the Homecoming folks and also with Squire Parsons. When I began to discuss with them what I was feeling, they began to tell me why I couldn't do it. They told me that I was too old to handle the pressures, and could not hold up for perfoming. I never said I wanted to do it professionally (although when I was younger that was my dream). I just want to use the gift that God has given me and couple it with my personal testimony to share how great the Lord is. Now, folks around my hometown say things like I am trying to be like that young man, etc. It is nothing like that and I fear God enough that I don't want to run because of what others say. I love to sing, I love this music called Southern Gospel and I want to do what God wants me to do. So, I am asking if you are willing, for you good folks to remember my trials in your prayers as I want to defeat this attitude I am dealing with and sing for God's glory.

Hi Tim, If I haven't learned anything else, I've learned that God opens the doors for ministry. You only have to be willing to go where he leads. If I had listened to someone very close to me who tried their best to discourage me (and still does), I would have missed out on the greatest ministry of my life (so far). With service comes sacrifice; unfortunately, that sometimes includes friends and even family. Satan will do anything and use anyone he can to stop us from ministering. The Holy Spirit will guide your heart and give you peace about what you're supposed to do. You're in my prayers.

I don't know how old you are but I am 57 and am still able to sing if the situation ever comes up. My brother is 69 and traveled with me singing when he was 67. Jake Hess was in his 70's, George Younce and Glenn Payne were not spring chickens. Mrs. Eva Mae is in her 90's and still going. Don't let anyone tell you that you are to old. If you have the health and God has provided the calling go forth and spread the word. In the mean time I will be praying for you.

I was sitting here at work and just got an email. When I first got on the internet I met several folks that over the years kept in touch even when our paths didn't touch. One of those folks was Bob Whitehead. Bob was a funny man who loved SGM. He also was quick to volunteer to pray for you when things were going wrong. Bob is today in heaven listening to so many of the artists that have gone on. I hope he remembers the 'hellos' he said he would give if he went first! He passed away Friday 6/28. Other than a couple of nephews I don't know his family but I know that Bob met many artists and fans over the years. He will be missed, pray for his family.

I didn't know singing SGM or any other ministry had an age limit or requirement! I agree with others here that it sounds like Satan at work trying to keep you from ministering. Just listen to what God tells you and not to others. I will be praying for you and all other requests made here today.

DeeAnn we will continue to pray for Alicia situation. Will be praying for Bro. Bob's family, used to listen to him on the radio before he got sick. Seems like WGMI sure has had a lot of hard aches lately. Loosing Bro. Bob and Horace being injured in the motorcycle accident. The entire radio staff needs us to pray for them also.

Please remember the family of "BRO. BOB" Riddle. Bro. Bob died this week. He did the morning show on WGMI Radio for 9 years prior to his retirement in 2007. He also did the prayer line each morning on WGMI.

I would like to request prayer for one of our posters, G.I. MOM, and her family. Her son is getting ready to deploy back to Iraq. I hope she doesn't mind me doing this. I just felt the need to put it over here on the prayer thread. Edited to add: I also would like to extend that prayer for all who have family members serving...there are stresses and things that the families go through that most folks don't realize. From a former Navy wife and Marine Mom.

My dad had a light heart attack Sunday and had to be taken first to a small hospital then by chopper to a larger hospital with a cardiac unit. He is out of intensive care now, but he and my mom, and the rest of our family need your prayers. Dad has been on continuous oxygen for the past 5 years, and has gradually been going downhill from his lung problems for a while now. Thank you, my friends.
