I nearly forgot...

When all this started for me, my doctor prescribed Ponstell - it was like a magic pill! The cramps stopped, the clots were non-existent, it was awesome!

Problem is that Ponstell was too expensive for me, so after that first prescription, I never got it refilled - it was like $60.00. You only take it on the bad days, so it's not something you take all month long - just 4-5 days and the bottle lasted about 3 months.

Anyway, I don't know the side affects or if it's right for everyone, but it certainly worked for me.

Kim,

If you don't like one type of tampons, try another.

I like OB brand because instead of getting longer when they swell they get wider. They were developed by a woman doctor.

Dear Peace I assume the post about the tampons is for me. There are several of us named Kim. I love OB's unfortunately I need them with the applicators, & I can't find the OB's with the applicators around here anymore. Used to get them then all of a sudden no one had them anymore.

I know! I used to get the ones with applicator and loved them, but can't find them either.

I use the regular OB's. I haven't seen the ones with applicators in ages.

Myckey So I guess they must not make the ob's with applicators anymore. Unfortunately I've never been able to get the regular ob's inserted right. I feel dumb.

I never knew that OB had applicators to begin with. I used to use them because I hated dealing with applicators and found that it was easier for insertion to use OB.

Yeah, I'm thinking they stopped making them, too. I like them because I can't stand applicators. I pinch myself more often than not.

When OB first came out, they didn't have applicators.

I think the company tried it briefly and then took it off the market. I checked the company website and there is no mention of any version with applicators.

However, they are offering Free Sample Packs with a cute carrying case. (Click on the word Here on the web page)

Sorry for the confusion on the names, Kim and Kimberly.

I think the playtex tampons do that too. I haven't bought them in a while because the plastic applicator is too hard for me to hang onto.

I don't use tampons at all, because I'm concerned about developing toxic shock syndrome. Plus, I'm afraid the string would break off and it would be stuck in there. (I know, it sounds gross, doesn't it?)

Going off topic for a moment...

Kath, do you have revolving avatars? It seems like almost everytime I log on or post here your avatar changes. Just wondering...

Now back on topic...

I am going to get a bit descriptive here, so if you have young children on your lap, you may want to cover their eyes.

I have a hard time with tampons because I have a big fat belly that I have a hard time getting over (or around) to put the dad gummed thing in.
It ends up not being "seated" right, goes sideways, or works its' way out.
IF I happen to get it in right, then I deal with cramps.

Ok, you can uncover the childrens' eyes now.

I just put up a new one, I think it fits.

Kim, do you ever use the cloth pads? I bought some and they are very comfortable, but if you flow heavy they would probably be messy. They even have wings.

I bought mine at a large health food store. There are lots of places that sell them online.
Here are links to a few. The ones with wings snap over your underwear. The last link claims to have the longest pads made.

They are more comfortable than paper and plastic. I like mine especially at the begining and end of my period.

Interesting to see this thread still going. Hmmm my time of the month came and went last week. I always dread it. I do get steady headaches and took ibuprofen quite steady. I had the flu too. Since school's back in I decided to do extra walks to stave off stress and it helps. The alone time is nice too. Not to mention our puppy dog enjoys the extra time outside. I still seem to crave sweets and feel like a compulsive eater in some ways. I don't know why ice cream seems to help but it does. I did go for the extra walk today even though it was mildly raining.

I think that I'm probably about to start my "monthly event" because I've been having an intense craving for and eating lots of carbs and sweets this week. I'm overdue on it, but then again, I've been having them every two to three months anyway. Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!

I've thought about trying some of those.
I've heard so many women here rave about the diva cups, but they just don't sound right to me.

How do the cloth pads compare to the disposables concerning absorbtion?

I have the week-end off and was a few days late. Of course aunt flo had to come today.
Oh well, at least I won't have to deal with the worst of it while I'm at work.

Support threads (IMO that is what this thread really is) have a tendency to run for quite a while. As long as women are going through peri-menopause or menopause, I think that threads like this are a great idea.
