I have waxed both seriously and clownishly about Barack Obama’s “Cotton Candy Candidacy” and the fact that his nebulously formed ideas make him something of an empty suit when it comes to trying to figure out where he stands on many issues.
I have also pointed out that this is deliberate obfuscation on his part, done in order to hide his liberal past. Indeed, there is no candidate in recent memory who has taken such pains to see that his political philosophy remains a cipher – a razor thin record in the Illinois Senate along with almost as invisible U.S. Senate votes are carefully hidden away in the campaign’s attic, gone and mostly forgotten in the rush to proclaim the candidate The Agent of Change.
He’s a slippery fish  , this fellow Obama. Controversial votes when he was a state senator were avoided by voting “present” or claiming later that he erred by pressing the wrong button and didn’t really mean to take that position. Seen in the context of the “Great Game” the Left plays with the American people in trying to mask their liberalism for fear of rejection by the voter, Obama, it turns out, is a master of “post partisan problem solving” – hiding his liberalism under an avalanche of platitudes and feel-good bromides that have his supporters swooning and the media eating out of his hand.

Buckley, Jr., founder of National Review magazine and long-time host of the "Firing Line" television program, made Wednesday "a very sad day for a lot of people" who remembered the 82-year-old author and commentator as "the father of the modern conservative movement."
William F. Buckley, Jr."I'm devastated to report that our dear friend, mentor, leader and founder -- William F. Buckley, Jr. -- died overnight in his study in Stamford, Connecticut," National Review Online Editor Kathryn Jean Lopez posted on the magazine's Web site Wednesday morning.
Buckley, who had suffered from diabetes and emphysema for more than a year, "died while at work," Lopez said. "If he had been given a choice on how to depart this world, I suspect that would have been exactly it: at home, still devoted to the war of ideas."

American Family Association (AFA) and The Inspiration Networks (INSP) are excited about the premiere of their joint project titled Speechless ... Silencing the Christians. Speechless is a TV series that exposes the reality of America's anti-Christian bias and urges believers to put an end to the silence.
The series will air as 13 half-hour episodes on three different networks beginning next month. It will debut on INSP Saturday, March 1, at 8:30 p.m. (EST) and i-Lifetv (digital) Friday, March 7, at 9:30 p.m. (EST). Speechless will also air on the Inspiration Network International, which broadcasts in Europe, the Middle East and northern Africa.

The Boy Scouts of America is praising Texas Governor Rick Perry for authoring a book supporting the Scouts and their values.
Perry's book is titled On My Honor: Why the American Values of the Boy Scouts Are Worth Fighting For. Bob Bork, Jr., a spokesman for the Boy Scouts of America, is pleased that the former Scout has taken such a public stance in defending the values of scouting. Perry also came to the defense of the Scout's policy that prohibits homosexuals from scouting or serving as Scout leaders.
"Since its inception in 1910, the Boy Scouts has believed that open homosexuality is inconsistent with the values it wants to communicate through its leaders," Bork notes. "Scouting parents and sponsoring organizations share that belief -- and the Boy Scouts of America has a constitutional right to provide a youth organization for families who share those values." HAMILTON — A Hamilton man on the run for two years after being charged in connection with the rape of a child has pleaded guilty to that crime.
Louis Bonilla, 30, originally from El Salvador, entered the plea Monday, Feb. 25, before Butler County Common Pleas Judge Noah Powers. He faces up to 10 years in jail and is scheduled to be sentenced April 1.
In June 2005, Bonilla, formerly of Timberline Drive, was charged with rape for alleged sexual conduct with a 10-year-old girl who was known to him. He was arraigned in Hamilton Municipal Court and then posted bond but did not return for a scheduled court appearance.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has decided not to run for the U.S. presidency, he said in the New York Times, ending long-running speculation that he could launch a challenge as an independent candidate.
"I listened carefully to those who encouraged me to run, but I am not and will not be a candidate for president," Bloomberg said in an opinion article in Thursday's newspaper.
It was Bloomberg's most categorical statement that he will not compete in the November election against the Democratic and Republican nominees.

A student-run magazine at UCLA has revealed an undercover investigation in which representatives of Planned Parenthood, the nation's abortion industry leader, admitted willingness to accepting a financial donation targeting the destruction of an unborn black baby.

The Jewish State of Israel may not be perfect, it is however a flowering garden of civility, democracy and human rights in a desert filled with Arab-Muslim oppressive dictatorships, who deny their people basic human and religious rights and fundamental freedoms to its minorities-such as freedom of speech, press, and assembly. Given Israel's circumstances - being surrounded by hostile Arab states (and Arab-Palestinians) who seek its destruction through war and endless cycles of terrorism, Israel's record of maintaining its democracy and working to insure human rights and freedoms for all is remarkable.
For the United Methodist Church (UMC) and other mainline Protestant churches, however, Israel is deserving of criticism and punishment. On April 23, 2008, when the UMC will hold its Quadrennial General Conference in Fort Worth, Texas, divestment from companies that do business with Israel will be on the agenda.
Susanne Hoder, a member of the UMC's New England Conference Divestment Task Force, led an informational gathering on the Middle East last June. It was intended to provide participants with the opportunity to "learn how companies profit from Israel's illegal occupation of Palestinian lands, and examine the impact of occupation on Israeli and Palestinian society." Hoder expects to update the New England Conference on Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Gaza, and discuss apartheid in Israel and the occupied territories, and how organizations including churches, municipalities and Jewish groups are using economic measures to end it.

For every Obama supporter who has written me criticizing me for statements I've made in so many previous outlets they would be impossible to tally - OBAMA likey the GAY MARRIAGE. He has issued a written statement saying to the homosexual elite radicals that he will REPEAL the National Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). And that on the issue of redefining the institution by which ALL of society has been built upon he would allow state by state any jolly perverted idea or arrangement that can be signed into law to take place.
I also believe that the federal government should not stand in the way of states that want to decide on their own how best to pursue equality for gay and lesbian couples — whether that means a domestic partnership, a civil union, or a civil marriage. Unlike Senator Clinton, I support the complete repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) – a position I have held since before arriving in the U.S. Senate. While some say we should repeal only part of the law, I believe we should get rid of that statute altogether.
And when I wrote in the late part of 2006 that Barack Obama was using Rick Warren, access to his pulpit, congregation, and conference for the implied benefit of "Christian" bonafides, Obama has proven me right, and Rick Warren wrong - AGAIN!

This past weekend, on his weekly Sunday morning show, Matthews asked writer Gloria Borger: "Is there a resistance to an African-American candidate by white men? Is there resistance to Hillary?"

Dr. Alveda King says although her uncle -- the late civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. -- accepted an award from Planned Parenthood in 1966, the abortion group had a "hidden agenda" at the time. "I don't want anybody to be confused by thinking that Dr. King could condone the violent death of the little babies, and the violent consequences that women suffer," King clarifies. "I'm post-abortive myself. I've suffered ... and it was a secret in my family for too long. And so now we’re here today to speak out on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves. Abortion is a racist, genocidal act."
King was one of several black pro-life leaders who met in Washington yesterday to celebrate their ethnicity and decry abortion and its disproportionate effect on blacks. And during a news conference at the Family Research Council, Dr. Johnny Hunter, president of the Life Education and Resource Network, predicted that at some point in America abortion would be abolished, just like slavery and Jim Crow laws.

Other journalists were only slightly more subtle. “Many experts warn, it’s too little, too late,” NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski argued on the January 8, 2007 Nightly News. The next morning on NBC’s Today, the network’s graphic describing Iraq was “Lost Cause?”
At the same time, leading Democrats left themselves no wiggle room as they, too, denounced the surge. Senator Barack Obama called it “wrong-headed” and countered with a proposal to pull nearly all U.S. troops out of Iraq by March 2008. Senator Hillary Clinton came back from a quick trip to Iraq to declare: “I am opposed to this escalation,” while another Democratic candidate, Senator Joe Biden, blasted the troop surge as “a tragic mistake.”

We realize that one of the Canadian networks mentioned yesterday that such a call had been made. The report is untrue."
When asked whether Ambassador Michael Wilson, the Canadian emissary to the U.S., had received a call from anyone in the Obama campaign, Lemay said he had not.

When the Gallup pollsters asked Americans what they thought about their own mental health, they were intrigued by the difference between Democrats and Republicans.
While 58 percent of Republicans reported having excellent mental health, only 38 percent of Democrats described themselves that way.
The study was no surprise to D. Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr., a noted psychiatrist and author of a controversial book that makes the clinical case liberalism is a mental illness.

Police Investigate Las Vegas Ricin Scare
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Police say there is no indication of any link to terrorist activity involving the discovery of the deadly poison ricin that was found in a hotel room near the Las Vegas Strip.
Seven people were sent to the hospital to be tested for poisoning, including three officers who first responded to the 911 call. All seven people are fine and have been released from the hospital. There was also a dog and two cats found in the room. The cats survived, but the dog had to be put down because of starvation.
What is Ricin?
The room belonged to a man who had been admitted to the hospital on Feb. 14 with breathing problems. That man is now in critical condition and police sources say he has slipped into a coma. Police say they don't think foul play is involved however they are still investigating why the man had ricin in his room.

Much is being made of Barack Obama’s oratory skills. True, he is quite good when it comes to captivating a crowd of sycophants and this includes the lemmings in the mainstream media. But if words matter, as Obama (and surreptitiously Duval Patrick) claims they do, then we must acknowledge that in this case words do make the man, in this case Mr. Obama must be judged in his words and in the deeds that back up those words.
Ironically, I agree with Mr. Obama when he says that words matter. One of the harshest criticisms I have had of the Bush Administration is that communication between the presidency and the American people has been, at best, horrible. While I can lay much of the blame on a hateful mainstream media who wouldn’t cover the White House if it was on fire, a gaggle of journalistic abortions hell-bent on achieving an anti-Bush/anti-Republican agenda, so too blame must be laid at the feet of an administration that failed to use all the tools available to the bully pulpit to get its message across.
Words do matter. In a society that has grown so delinquent in teaching its populace critical thinking skills, words – and the choice of words – have become the upper-tier chess pieces in the tactical game of attaining and holding on to power. Of course, this is nothing new.

Lawyers for a team of Christians convicted of disorderly conduct for praying at a "gay" fest in a public park in Elmira, N.Y., are promising an appeal of the verdict that left them with $100 fines.
Joel Oster, of the Alliance Defense Fund, said an appeal will be filed in Chemung County court for Julian and Gloria Raven, Maurice Kienenberger and Walter Quick, all of Elmira, who were ordered to pay $95 apiece in court costs in addition to the $100 fines.
Oster told the Star-Gazette newspaper that the police in the United States simply are not supposed to arrest people if someone else may be upset by their message.

(CNSNews.com) - The latest Pew Research Center poll shows that most Americans now believe the war in Iraq will succeed; that Republicans, Democrats and Independents all see signs of growing progress in the effort; and that only 14 percent of those polled want an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
"Public perceptions of the situation in Iraq have become significantly more positive over the past several months, even as opinions about the initial decision to use military force remain mostly negative and unchanged," notes the survey, which was the result of 1,508 telephone interviews nationwide Feb. 20-24.
The number of Americans who say the military effort is going very or fairly well is much higher now than a year ago (48 percent vs. 30 percent in February 2007). While the rise in the number of people who believe that the U.S. will ultimately succeed in Iraq is smaller, it now constitutes a majority (53 percent, up 5 points from a year ago).

In addition, although Christianity is unique in embracing absolute truth, 91 percent of students from evangelical churches believe truth is what you make it.
Moving rapidly to fill this void, leftist ideologues are infecting public schools and colleges with their own godless worldview, capitalizing on the "opportunity" Christian pastors and parents have provided. It is clear that America's religious and political landscape is changing due to spiritual apathy, and nowhere is this more obvious than when Christian parents place their children into secular institutions for their education.

He also told the crowd that his position in favor of legalized abortion does not make him "less Christian."
"I don't think it [a same-sex union] should be called marriage, but I think that it is a legal right that they should have that is recognized by the state," said Obama. "If people find that controversial then I would just refer them to the Sermon on the Mount, which I think is, in my mind, for my faith, more central than an obscure passage in Romans." Obama's mention of the Sermon on the Mount in justifying legal recognition of same-sex unions may have been a reference to the Golden Rule: "Do to others what you would have them do to you." Or it may have been a reference to another famous line: "Do not judge, or you too will be judged."

Update 2:30 p.m.: According to Sheriff's Office spokesman Paul Miller, there were six victims in today's Wendy's shooting at North Military Trail and Cherry Road near West Palm Beach. Two are dead - the gunman and and a middle aged white man.
A witness saw the shooter enter the restaurant bathroom. As soon as he came out he pulled out what looked like a 9mm handgun. He shot the deceased victim at near point-blank range then turned to the left and started shooting more rounds.
Witness Jerry Pritcherd, 20, of Fort Myers, said he heard a pop and didn't realize it was gunshots. He said he was "scared" when he heard about 20 pops and ran out. He said he was 10 feet away from the shooter, who he said was a tall black man wearing a business suit.

ROME (Reuters) - The body of the mystic monk Padre Pio, one of the Roman Catholic world's most revered saints who died 40 years ago, has been exhumed to be prepared for display to his many devotees.
The body of the Capuchin friar, who was said to have had the stigmata -- the wounds of Christ's crucifixion -- on his hands and feet -- is to be conserved and put in a part-glass coffin for at least several months from April 24.
A Church statement said the body was in "fair condition," particularly the hands, which Archbishop Domenico D'Ambrosio, who witnessed the exhumation in the southern Italian town where Pio died, said "looked like they had just undergone a manicure."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Trauma patients treated in U.S. emergency rooms on average are exposed to radiation equivalent to 1,005 chest X-rays each, enough to raise their risk of cancer, researchers reported on Monday.
Doctors should think about the total dose of radiation given patients, especially younger ones, Dr. James Winslow of Wake Forest University in North Carolina and colleagues said.
Writing in the Annals of Emergency Medicine, they said they analyzed the records of 86 patients who came to a level one trauma center over a three-month period in 2006.

If Barack Obama really wants to rise above the "old politics of division," he might want to start by putting that American flag pin back on his lapel and retracting his all too earnest explanation as to why he took it off in the first place.
No, not because he should seek to appease his conservative critics who are absurdly questioning his loyalty to the country. But because it could help heal the festering division over the meaning of patriotism in America while also beginning to make up for the Democratic Party's self-imposed patriotism deficit.
Last October, when responding to questions as to why he stopped wearing an American flag on his lapel, Obama argued that such symbols "became a substitute for, I think, true patriotism," and added that he had decided not to wear the pin because he was "going to try to tell the American people what I believe+++, what will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testimony to patriotism."

Conservative media watchdog Media Research Center has released a new report documenting a huge decrease in coverage of the Iraq war, now that the surge is working and there are fewer U.S. casualties.
The Media Research Center (MRC) notes that one year ago, liberal journalists depicted the surge of U.S. troops to Iraq as a certain failure, and Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama (D-Illinois) called it "wrong-headed" and suggested instead to pull nearly all U.S. troops out of Iraq by March 2008.
But Rich Noyes, director of research at the MRC, says the president's surge strategy is well on its way to succeeding. "Levels of violence are going down across the board. [There have] been major steps towards political reconciliation, something that Democrats demanded back in 2006 and 2007," he notes. "And instead of giving this a lot of coverage and attention on the evening newscasts, the networks have basically tuned out the war in Iraq."

McCain, 71, gained the 1,191 delegates needed to claim the Republican nomination with a series of primary victories, completing a remarkable comeback that began in the snows of New Hampshire six weeks ago. President Bush invited him to the White House for a show of support on Wednesday.
The former Vietnam prisoner of war is making his second try for the White House, after losing the GOP nomination to Bush in 2000.

Less than two weeks ago, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced at a news conference that a high-tech "virtual fence" project along part of the U.S. border with Mexico finally was ready for service as a substitute for an actual physical fence -- you know, concrete, barbed wire, watchtowers, moats.
The secretary was very specific. He said: "I have personally witnessed the value of this system, and I have spoken directly to the border patrol agents who have seen it produce actual results, in terms of identifying and allowing the apprehension of people who were illegally smuggling across the border."
The so-called Project 28 virtual fence was built near Nogales, Ariz. The $20 million project of sensor towers and advanced mobile communications was supposed to be ready by mid-2007 but was delayed by software problems......

DAVIS, Calif. — A student at UC Davis is in custody after authorities say they found explosive devices in a dorm room.
University police Capt. Joyce Souza tells the Sacramento Bee that investigators found what appears to be two pipe bombs in a dorm.
Police became aware of the situation Wednesday night after a woman reported that students had possible explosive devices in a dorm room. Police say after questioning four students they arrested 19-year-old Mark Woods, a freshman from Southern California.

Eight people were reported to be killed and approximately 35 wounded in a terror attack at a seminary located near the entrance to Jerusalem on Thursday evening.
The exact number of people killed was yet to be confirmed, but Magen David Adom have confirmed 10 wounded civilians including three seriously. One terrorist was said to be dead.

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) says he is sending out a second letter to well-known "prosperity gospel" ministries, asking them to address allegations they are using their tax-exempt status to pay for lavish lifestyles. Grassley reports he has received the cooperation of only two of the six televangelists under investigation -- Joyce Meyer and Benny Hinn. The ministries of Paula White, Eddie Long, Creflo Dollar, and Kenneth Copeland have resisted the Finance Committee's probe.
The senator says he may eventually issue subpoenas to ask the ministries what they "have to hide." "I'm on sound ground as far as the law is concerned, the Constitution ... I think I've got public opinion behind me...," confirms Grassley. "So eventually it gets back to them -- do they think they can get away with stonewalling? In a new book, "Red Letter Christians," Tony Campolo makes the case that Christians can fulfill their duty to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and shelter the homeless by electing politicians who will make this the collective responsibility of the government and all taxpayers.
For fear that even one Christian in America might be so misled by the noted evangelist and theologian, I decided to do something Campolo failed to do – consult the Bible.
Of course, that's not entirely fair. Campolo does offer a scriptural citation for his prescription for coercive wealth redistribution by government. It just doesn't apply. He cites Matthew 25:31-46, in which Jesus explains the responsibility each of us has individually to be compassionate to our neighbors in need.

The Democratic Party cashiered Howard Dean and replaced him, fairly early in the process, with the deeply flawed John Kerry when it became apparent that Dean was unelectable. But what if party honchos, much later in the game, conclude Obama is unelectable? Look out.
Right now, it's premature to conclude that Obama's momentum has been permanently quashed. He won 12 states in a row before losing three out of four Tuesday night. But for a candidate whose main attraction has been his superhuman aura to lose those major contests should be cause for concern.
In terms of delegate count, Obama still holds a commanding lead. According to ABC, if Clinton were to win all 12 remaining states with 55 percent of the vote, she would end up with 1,793 delegates, short of Obama's 1,841. If that scenario were reversed, Obama would end up with 1,902 and Clinton 1,732, which would leave Obama still short of the 2,024 delegates required.

In a sermon delivered at Howard University, Barack Obama’s longtime minister, friend, and adviser blamed America for starting the AIDS virus, training professional killers, importing drugs, and creating a racist society that would never elect a black man as president.
The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., pastor of Obama’s Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, gave the sermon at the school’s Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel in Washington on Jan. 15, 2006. The mainstream media have just committed one of the most disgraceful acts of journalistic malfeasance and nonfeasance in the history of America. By glorifying, deifying and canonizing Sen. Barack Obama and failing to examine his record, the mainstream media helped assure his nomination. Some experts say it is already in the bag, even if Hillary Clinton completes her astounding comeback by winning Pennsylvania on April 22.
The second act in that journalistic disgrace is that after the outcome of the nomination process was almost over, suddenly the mainstream media came to its senses and started half-heartedly covering the whole Obama story, which if told, in my view, would make it apparent that he is unfit for the presidency. For more on that conclusion, see my columns in the box accompanying this story.
Newsweek magazine, one of the worst offenders, is the publication that did a cover story on the senator and then on his wife, in which the two were painted as paragons of perfection, apparently without flaws. The first of the cover stories on the senator moved the great columnist Charles Krauthammer to observe that Newsweek had used up all its adjectives of praise and glory and will have nothing left for the Second Coming. Stories like that led to the Center for Media and Public Affairs finding that from mid-December through mid-February, Sen. Obama had coverage that was positive 84 percent of the time (while Hillary Clinton had positive coverage 53 percent of the time).

I’m usually rude to arrogant liberal college students in order to make them more humble. Ann is rude to humble conservative college students in order to sell books.

Parents encouraged to keep students home on 'Day of Silence'

A coalition of pro-family groups is calling on parents to keep their children home from school one day next month if their school observes a homosexual-sponsored initiative.
On April 25, more than 4,000 schools nationwide will observe the "Day of Silence," an initiative sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), an activist homosexual group. The event encourages students to remain quiet throughout the day in order to bring attention to the homosexual lifestyle.
The American Family Association (AFA), along with other family-oriented groups, is urging parents to keep their kids home from school that day -- if the school observes the project. Buddy Smith with the AFA says concerned parents can go online and see if their child's school is observing the Day of Silence.

Sen. Barack Obama took the lead over rival Hillary Rodham Clinton in early returns as Democrats deluged caucuses in Wyoming Saturday, straining the ability of party officials to accommodate crowds.
Obama led Clinton 58 percent to 41 percent with 70 percent of the 23 counties reporting as they vied for the next prize in their extraordinarily tight Democratic presidential nomination race.
During the first caucuses of the day, it appeared the state's Democrats were showing up in record numbers. In 2004, a mere 675 people statewide took part in the caucuses.

Did you know that Dr. Martin Luther King was a Republican?
I sure didn't – till I read Ronald Kessler's arresting column on the Internet just recently. He was liberally quoting Frances Rice, chairman of the National Black Republican Association, in which she was describing the Democrat Party as the "architect of modern day racism."
This was just the first of many fascinating and surprising accusations from someone who is certainly in a position to know what she's talking about. She's a retired Army lieutenant colonel and lawyer, and she avers that it was Republicans who pushed through much of the ground-breaking civil rights legislation in Congress – and that the GOP still stands for empowering blacks to help them out of poverty, more than the Democrats. In contrast, she says, the liberal party pushes programs that keep her fellow blacks dependent on government handouts and temporary "fixes," and encourages them to see themselves as victims.

We watch and we wait as Hillary and Obama play pingpong with poison-coated balls made in China. They talk of change, not going into the past but into the bold future, solving world hunger, creating health care for all and the big one … everyone being treated equally.
Obama reminds us that Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount was supportive of gay marriage[ :'(]. Of course, my eyes never caught that reference from Jesus regarding gay behavior, but then my eyes aren't what they used to be. Maybe if you have a special Obama/Hillary back-masking machine, words in the Bible go backwards and magically display new messages to groups of special people.

The administrator of a Christian school in California says it's time for concerned parents to stand against judicial activism before parental rights are irreparably damaged.
A three-judge panel of the Second District Court of Appeals recently ruled that parents have no constitutional right to home school their kids. The case involves a Los Angeles-area couple whose eight children have been enrolled in Sunland Christian School but were taught at home. In its unanimous ruling, the appellate court said parents who do not have teaching credentials could not educate their children at home.
Terry Neven, Sunland Christian School administrator, says an appeal is in the works. And although he does not believe the ruling will stand, Neven says the implications could be widespread. "... Someone could take this law and march through the state and declare every home schooler illegal because that's what the precedent sets," he warns. "But I don't think that's going to happen."

As Spit had the prostitute brought across state lines, he could be prosecuted under the Mann act; also anytime a phone, the net or text messager is used in the commission of a cross state crime it technically could be looked at as a federal offense.

Multiple Democratic Senate and Assembly sources said Eliot Spitzer will resign this week, possibly as early as Monday night. They say a transition team is already being assembled. Several judges have been approached about presiding over a swearing-in -- either here in Manhattan Monday night or sometime in the next few days either in New York City or Albany. They said Spitzer has been urged to step down "for the good of the party" by several top state and at least one top national Democrat.
Here's the succession deal:
If Spitzer were to resign, Lt. Gov. David Paterson would be offered the governorship. There would be no special election and no replacement for the lieutenant governor position. Instead, Spitzer's archrival, Republican Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno, would become the acting lieutenant governor. While continuing to serve as both the acting lieutenant governor and the Senate majority leader, Bruno would still have just one vote in the Senate.

The New York Times’s Paul Krugman hailed Spitzer in 2002 as one of the “good guys.” In the same piece, Krugman quotes Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard Law School professor who hired then-law student Spitzer in the 1980s to help with research in the Claus von Bulow defense. "He's the real deal," said Dershowitz, who in his day was himself a wunderkind. "He has a creative and innovative mind, and he always wants to do what's right." In a Washington Post-ABC News poll taken when opposition to the Iraq war was approaching its height, she enjoyed a “favorable-unfavorable” rating of nearly two to one. The conservative rank and file likes her. Though she once described herself as “mildly pro-choice,” she is agile enough to complete the journey to mildly pro-life. And she is a preacher’s daughter.

The Iranian textbook was published in 2004, before the controversial Mahmoud Ahmadinejad became president of Iran in 2005. In another third-grade text, "Gifts of Heavan," an illustration of a monster wearing the Star of David is seen going through a tidy Muslim town leaving garbage everywhere.
While those examples could seem shocking to some, it gets worse, said Arnon Groiss, director of research at the Center for Monitoring the Impact of Peace, who recently completed a study of 115 Iranian school textbooks. (Most of the books reviewed in the study had been published in 2004.)

Colorado could put child rapists to death under a bill that won a Senate committee's approval Monday and would put the state on par with just five others that allow the execution of such sex offenders.
Prosecutors could try for the death penalty in cases in which rape victims are 12 or younger, where DNA evidence is present and where the perpetrator has been previously convicted of a sex offense against a child.
The harsher sentences might run afoul of the Constitution — the U.S. Supreme Court will weigh in on the issue this year — and could discourage victims from reporting abuse by relatives, according to critics, who include victims' rights advocates.

DENVER - The Democratic chairman of the Senate Finance Committee has thrown his support behind an investigation of allegations of lavish spending and lax oversight at a half-dozen "prosperity gospel" Christian ministries.
Sen. Max Baucus of Montana joined with Iowa Republican Sen. Charles Grassley in urging cooperation from four ministries. According to a statement from Grassley's office Wednesday, the four ministries have not responded to questions he posed in early November. Follow-up letters the two senators have sent to the three ministries that have refused to answer Grassley's questions give a March 31 deadline for turning over the requested information. A fourth ministry has indicated it will cooperate.
Having Baucus on board is crucial for any potential bid to seek subpoenas forcing answers from uncooperative ministries. Grassley critics, including Creflo Dollar, one of the ministers not cooperating, have portrayed the senator as a renegade who has no real power because his party is in the minority. The follow-up letters do not mention subpoenas specifically, but express hope that the requested information can be obtained "without resorting to compulsory process."

The anti-recruiter thugs on college campuses and in liberal enclaves have thrived thanks to a combination of public indifference, law enforcement fecklessness and left-wing ideological apologism.
It has now been a week since the Times Square military recruitment center bombing. The investigation continues -- and so does the left's denial of the ongoing campaign against military recruiters. At a national conference of anarchists in Washington, D.C., last weekend, a "solidarity sticker" glorifying the biker bomber made the rounds. On the Internet, "peace" activists threatened the Gathering of Eagles, a national military support group that organized a rally at Times Square last weekend. From Pittsburgh to Berkeley, anti-war extremists have smeared recruiters as "death pimps" and "child predators." The militant Code Pink group continues to organize in-your-face protests to drive recruiters from major metropolitan areas.
The Times Square bombing was not an isolated incident, but an all-too-predictable symptom of reckless tolerance for dangerous "peace" peddlers skating on the edge of sedition. Lone nuts? There is no question a generation gap exists between the supporters of Barack Obama and the other candidates for the presidency. This is particularly true in regards to his rival for the Democratic Party nomination, Hillary Clinton. Obama is all the rage among college voters and their fealty may sweep him into office in November. He pays extra-special attention to the young and has courted them in ways some consider unethical.
Obama flatters the already inflated egos of the self-esteem generation, which has caused some to label his effect as “cult-like.” His message is . . . his message. It’s all self-reference all of the time. Indeed, my Senator offers to the young narcissism and vacuity which their dopamine receptors have latched onto as if his words were grains of morphine.
The “millennials” are a generation unlikely to make a positive contribution to society. Their educations — especially those who seek or have already obtained liberal arts degrees — have been incurably corrupted by political correctness. Imbibing PC guarantees that one will never understand politics, history or human nature. Many regard themselves as rebels but are too cowardly to question the constructs of cultural Marxism.

The controversial pastor who inspired the title of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s autobiography has been videotaped invoking racial slurs while discussing Hillary Clinton.
In the video, available on YouTube, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, a fierce Obama supporter, delivers a sermon about how Clinton cannot relate to American black culture like Obama does.

Abraham Lincoln is getting a little color in his cheeks. New $5 bills bearing the gaunt visage of the nation's 16th president – but with some touches of color added – are making their way to banks and cash registers near you.
The bill goes into circulation Thursday. That's when the Federal Reserve, the supplier of the nation's cash, starts shipping the bills to banks, which send them to businesses and eventually into the hands of people in this country and beyond.
Fittingly, the new bill will be spent for the first time on Thursday at the gift shop of President Lincoln's Cottage located on the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in northwest Washington.
