A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group Wednesday urged GOP presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani to reconsider his acceptance of the endorsement of a controversial televangelist known for scathing attacks on Muslims and Islam.

In a news release on his campaign website, Giuliani is quoted as saying he is "encouraged" by the endorsement of Pat Robertson, chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). "His experience and advice will be a great asset to me and my campaign," said Giuliani.....


In announcing his endorsement of Giuliani, Robertson referred to the "bloodlust of Islamic terrorists."

(CNSNews.com) - In a vote of 53 to 40, mostly along party lines, the Senate Thursday confirmed retired judge Michael Mukasey as attorney general of the United States, replacing Alberto Gonzales, who resigned in September.

"Tonight, a clear bipartisan majority of the Senate voted to confirm Judge Mukasey because he is one of the most qualified candidates ever nominated to the position of attorney general," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said.

Mukasey faced opposition from Democrats during his confirmation hearing, because he said he did not know if waterboarding, or simulated drowning, is unlawful, although he said torture violates the Constitution.

The Iowa caucuses are known for their “living-room chats” where ordinary Iowans can meet candidates face-to-face and talk about what interests voters. When candidates have larger events or make major policy speeches, the crowds are bigger, but there is often still an opportunity for questions. But under the pressures of major media coverage, with polls narrowing in Iowa, campaigns can potentially control questions and coverage by planning questions ahead of time.

While no campaigns admit to this practice, at a recent Hillary Clinton campaign event in Newton, Iowa, some of the questions posed to the New York Senator were planned in advance, planting some audience members in the crowd.

On Tuesday Nov. 6, the Clinton campaign stopped at a biodiesel plant in Newton as part of a weeklong series of events to introduce her new energy plan. The event was clearly intended to be as much about the press as the Iowa voters in attendance, as a large press core helped fill the small venue. Reporters from many major national news outlets came to the small Iowa town, from such media giants as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, the Associated Press, and CNN.

LEXINGTON, Neb. - Back in August, the rumor around Lexington Middle School was that 25-year-old math teacher Kelsey Peterson had a boyfriend — a 13-year-old former student. People had complained to administrators three months earlier that Peterson spent too much time hanging out with the kids. When new complaints reached administrators linking her to the student in August, her principal gave her a verbal warning, but that was it.

"We did not put an investigator on her and watch her," said district Superintendent Todd Chessmore, who has ordered all school and district employees to not speak with reporters. "We did not see this as something except for something we needed to deal with in a very informal manner."

A couple of months later, after a confrontation with Chessmore, Peterson and the boy took off. Going missing for a week, they were eventually picked up by a Mexican police officer in Baja California. The boy said in an interview with The Associated Press later that he and the teacher had sex twice. She cried when they were parted.

My father was a medic in the U.S. Navy for four years during WWII, most of it in the Mediterranean theater, then on the way to the invasion of Japan in the summer of 1945, when the war abruptly ended. He was there for the invasions of Sicily and Italy, but he hardly spoke of them, only of the good times, dolphins leaping in the luminous wake aft of the fantail, stars slipping slowly by in a crystalline sky far above the dark Atlantic, the ride across Italy by train, sitting on the roof of a boxcar in the blazing sun.



He didn't say much about the battles, the hundreds of wounded men streaming aboard the hospital ship where he was stationed, the triage, sorting out who could be patched up, who went straight to the surgeons, and who could only be given morphine to ease their dying. Let the sleeping dogs of painful memory lie. He's gone now, and the old soldiers of his time just fade away. This is for him, and for all of them.

In Canada, Great Britain, and in the rest of the Commonwealth, those who have fallen in battle are remembered on November 11th, commemorating the end of the Great War in 1918.



The First World War is less well known in America than WWII since it entered the war late in 1917, three years after it had begun in Europe. Britain and its Commonwealth countries, along with France, Italy, and Russia battled the Germans and the Austro-Hungarian Empire for four years in conditions that had not been imaginable in previous wars. The horror of modern warfare became apparent and casualties mounted on a scale never before seen. What seems to have been forgotten, however, is not the sacrifice that was made, but that our soldiers (in Canada, Britain,

America and elsewhere) fight for precisely the same causes and values that we fought for in the Great War.



World War One saw the advent of horrifically effective new weapons. Long range artillery, poison gas, the airplane, the machine gun, trench warfare, and barbed wire changed the face of war. The tactics of warfare were far behind the effectiveness of the weapons being used. This resulted in massive casualties during poorly planned offensives. In one such battle on the western front, Canadian, British, French, and Australian soldiers attempted to push the entrenched Germans back from their lines. This was known as the Battle of Passchendale; the battle embodied the muddy trench warfare that so greatly increased the suffering of the common infantry soldier. At this horrible juncture, the British lost 300,000 men, including 36,000 Australians, 16,000 Canadians, and 3,000 New Zealanders. The Germans lost 260,000 men during the defense of their position. All this carnage occurred in the span of about one (1) month.

BOSTON -- Several anti-war veterans were arrested when they protested their exclusion from a Veterans Day event by refusing to move away from a podium.

The Boston chapter of a group called Veterans for Peace estimated 15 of its members and supporters were arrested Sunday at the event sponsored by the American Legion. Boston Police said several arrests were made, but did not have an exact number. The detainees were later released on bail.

"We're opposed to the U.S. invasion of Iraq; we're opposed to the planned invasion of Iran," said group member Winston Warfield, a Vietnam War veteran. "A lot of veterans view us as traitors."

In 1944, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed into law the "Servicemen's Readjustment Act," better known as the GI Bill. With that one signature, the President ensured that eight million combat veterans coming home from Germany and Japan would be able to afford an education. The World War Two GI Bill was the Cadillac of scholarships; it covered tuition, fees, and books, and gave veterans a living stipend while they were in school.

No wonder only 8% of troops even use their whole GI Bill benefit.***

Most Americans have an overwhelming sense of appreciation and pride in the work all our veterans have performed in making us the greatest nation in the history of the world. That is if you are not a liberal Democrat.

Liberal are too busy criticizing and attacking our military to take even a moment to thank them for their service. Instead they refer to the finest people on the planet in some of the most vulgar and degrading terms a military service person can imagine. It is in their blood. They can't help themselves.

Comments like, "There was no firefight; there was no IED (improvised explosive device) that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood."

ABC News' Eloise Harper and Rick Klein Report: It's been a rough stretch for Hillary Clinton -- a tough debate performance, a lost voice, and the revelation that the Clinton campaign had been coaching questioners at events.

Then, on Sunday, everything started falling down around her.

After a very Presidential-esque news conference - Clinton turned around to leave the reporters and their peppering questions. A staffer swooped open a curtain, and chaos ensued. Four large American flags came crashing in front of Senator Clinton as she headed for the door. In a controlled panic, the staffers and the Senator attempted to catch the flags before they fell to the ground.

Student given question to ask Clinton: I wasn't only one

GRINNELL, Iowa (CNN) — The college student who says she was told what question to ask at one of Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign events told CNN Monday that she wasn't the only one at the event who was a plant and said "voters have the right to know what really happened."

In an exclusive interview with CNN, Muriel Gallo-Chasanoff, a 19-year-old sophomore at Grinnell College in Iowa — whose story in her campus newspaper has now been widely circulated — said that giving anyone specific questions to ask is "dishonest," and the whole incident has given her a negative outlook on politics.

Gallo-Chasanoff, an undecided voter, said what happened was really pretty simple: she says a senior Clinton staffer asked if she'd like to ask the senator a question after an energy speech she gave in Newton, Iowa, on November 6. (Watch Gallo-Chasanoff ask Clinton the question)
