ORIGINAL: car2ner Put Christmas Shoes in that category. That song needs a merciful but prompt death. I can't believe it's even been made into a movie. However, any Christian, Christmas song that has steel drums and a Jamaican band has my vote!

ORIGINAL: themoodyexperience 75% of the people I know have an intense dislike of the song and/or movie The Christmas Shoes. I just saw the movie last night and it was quite bad, but I still like the song. What about ya'll? I have never heard of it! Based on the comments here, it sounds so awful that I am tempted to try to hear it! Would that be for laughs or because I want to be sick? I usually keep my radio dial on the Christian music station, but they start playing the Christmas songs so early that it drives me NUTZOID! That is the season when I start radio-exploring, or just playing my own music.

Oh, to get the real effect of Christmas Shoes, you have to hear it at least 30 times or more. The first time it's actually kind of sweet. But it does talk about going to meet Jesus, so maybe it's played on some Christian stations. Basically the guy is late for his shopping (it's Christmas Eve), in a long line and not in the Christmas mood. The boy ahead of him is buying a pair of shoes for his dying mother but after counting all his pennies he doesn't have enough money, so the guy gives him the money he needs. The boy's mother is so close to death, she may die on Christmas Eve, and what mother in the world would want her young son out alone shopping for a pair of shoes on what may be her last night on Earth? I'd want my son close by, not dealing with crazed shoppers on Christmas Eve.

I did some Christmas shopping today. There were things my kids had said "I like these clothes" and I had the money so I bought them before they were sold out of their size

Sounds like the same weepy stuff of "Put My Little Shoes Away," a song my mother used to sing to me so that I would cry, then she would laugh. Bleh!

When I was little, my mom played a song on the guitar and sang it and made me cry. I never forgot it -- never forgot even the first time I heard it. I can still remember where I was when she played it. I think I was six years old. I used to ask her all the time after that to sing "The Sad Song." It was about two orphan children who freeze to death outside a church. I really don't know why I liked it so much. But I don't like the song Christmas Shoes. I think the earlier poster hit the nail on the head when she said it had been overplayed. Maybe I liked the other song because my mom was wise enough not to play it for me every time I asked for it.

I heard it on the way home from my birthmom's funeral. I still cry over it. I think I've seen the movie, but I'm not sure. One year our church did the play and it was pretty good. (That may have something to do with the fact that my dd had a major role in the play.)

ORIGINAL: Lapidoth What is the focal dish for a Canadian thanksgiving meal? Sorry Lap, I did not see this since then. It's a traditional one just like the American one: Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy. Mine was sweet and simple, just like Jesus! I hope that helps! Thanks. That helps. lol. Jesus ate fish on thanks giving day. j/k

Enjoy your day off tomorrow -- the last day you can sit in your sukkah! I decided to be sick, so I will likely spend my time indoors, trying to get over it. At least I can look out the picture window and think about my soon-coming L-rd who is now serving as High Priest for all of us on CW! What a G-d! And since He is serving as High Priest, He hasn't had any wine since that last Pesach He had here, when He said, "I'm not having any more wine until I can drink it with you." What a mighty G-d we serve! What a mighty G-d we serve! Angels bow before Him, Heaven and earth adore Him -- What a mighty G-d we serve! Just makes ya' wanna stand up and holler through the roof, "You are the Greatest! The Best! The most Wonderful! The G-d of all! Hallelu Yah!"

I said weeks ago I was going to build a "real sukka." Well, like you, I haven't been in real good health myself. I didn't even make a poor facsimile. I've slept in my own bed on my own side this whole week. lol. Been having a lot of dental work, chiropractic work (more today after work), more shuffling from place to place. lol. Fingers aren't affected, so I can still run off at the mouth on the keyboard. But, the sky has been gorgeous to me this year. What a great moon to begin it all. Looking forward to Hanakkah so I can chow down on chocolate and tater-pancakes. lol.
