I second the 'Go Royals' post. Gil Meche for Cy Young and Alex Gordon for MVP. You heard it here first folks!

Preferably somewhere far away, like the Japan League. [:D]

Speak for yourself there Bill...I'm not nuts...but that's just what the other voice in my head says! [;)][8D]

You may not think you're nuts, but see that little cutie pie in your avatar? Give her time. By the time she's 5 you'll be beyond help. [8D]

I watched my first few innings last night. The replayed the Mets-Cards game, but by the time I found the game guys with numbers like 68 and 97 were playing. Still, it's baseball!!!!!! [sm=dance.gif]

Yeah...you're right...and she's my second born! So in like 2 more years when my biggest girl is 5 I'll be hearing it, lol! (thanks for the compliment on my sweet Jael [:D])

I got to see the entire Dodgers v. Braves game and even though it wasn't Sox it was still blissfully baseball! Woohooooo for the start of the season! [:)]

nealmorsefan -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/3/2008 11:06:41 PM)

Hey guys! Quick question...I've never played fantasy baseball before and for kicks I decided to sign up for one of the free fantasy leagues on ESPN.com. But I'm kind of clueless as to what to do. Have any of you done the fantasy thing before and have some tips for me?

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/4/2008 10:27:18 AM)

All I know for sure is it involves a lot of stat checking.

I had to smile last night. My summer tv routine has begun. Watch Jeopardy from 7 to 7:30, then turn on the Mets. [:)] Tis a most wonderful thing!

HighPlainsDrifter -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/4/2008 12:58:09 PM)

I got involved in a fantasy league with a group of guys from work a few years ago and it was great fun. I'm not sure it would be the same anonymously through a website though.

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/6/2008 3:10:38 PM)

Oy, it starts already! Six of my eight regulars, plus one starting pitcher, all in various states of rehab/injury. the only two regulars that aren't hurt right now are Wright and Reyes. I gotta hope everybody hits grounders to the left side!

That used to be our regular nightly routine during our summers in NJ too! Unfortunately here in TX, Jeopardy comes on at the unGodly hour of 11 am! [sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif] It's just so strange not to watch Jeopardy after Wheel....but such is living in the Central time zone.

Get to see your Mets tomorrow afternoon on ESPN! Did you hear about Pujols? I wonder how that's going to affect the Cards?

(Right now I'm watching my Sox play the Dodgers down in Vero Beach! They were leading 5-0 with Wakefield at the helm...but now it's all tied up in the top of the 9th. But that's ok, since it just means bonus coverage! [;)][:D])

If it's not, it should be. Everyone knows that the Giants are the best!!

Yeah, but we're not talking football here. [8D][:D]

What happened to Pujols?? If he's out for any length of time the Cards are definitely sunk.

noblesinger -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/7/2008 12:57:01 PM)

It was so nice to see another Cincinnati Reds fan in this Thread. I often wonder if I'm the only one in the Web, but then I see somebody like my new-found friend from Kentucky and I think, "Yes! There is a God, and He loves me!" Of course, I'm only kidding, gang!

It was my maternal grandmother who got me hooked on the Reds after we moved from Northern WV to Southern WV in 1969. I had kinda half-watched baseball when I lived in the north, but after my grandmother got a hold of me, I was a Reds fan. I remember the days of the Big Red Machine and how they used to run up huge numbers in the regular season, but get beat in the Series (And yes, Bill, I remember the '73 playoffs - Pete vs. Bud). In fact, I can still remember their 1970 starting lineup: Pete Rose (RF), Bobby Tolan (CF), Tony Perez (3B), Johnny Bench (C), Lee May (1B), Bernie Carbo/Hal MacRae (LF), Tommy Helms (2B), Woody Woodward/Davey Concepcion (SS). And speaking of Davey, it's an absolute crime that he's not in the Hall of Fame. He's got one of the best fielding percentages of all time, and yet he keeps getting left out! Gofigyuh! Oh well, it'll happen one day! Gotta run, gang!

LBolt -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/7/2008 1:17:48 PM)

Ahhh! Remincing on the glory days! We tend to fall back on those old memories when our teams can't cut the mustard in the present. [;)] see the Indians in the 1990's

The big bully! [:D]

And I agree, Dave Concepcion was one of the best. If Larkin gets voted in before Davey does something's very wrong.

1love1God1way -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/7/2008 4:44:49 PM)

All I have to say is I am a little upset that the Brewers aren't doing a better job at keeping Prince Fielder happy. He deserves way more than they are paying him. Attaboy Prince, for sticking in there with the team.

clag4christ -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/8/2008 4:36:37 PM)

Hmmm...I know the Astros don't have a decent pitching rotation behind Roy... but I am still rooting for them! It's my home team and my favorite team! They have surprise people in the past! Maybe they can do it again! Hopefully our starting pitchers will step up! We definately have a good batting line up this year which we needed.

Go 'Stros! Hopefully, the new lineup will work well. It will be incredibly strange not getting to watch Biggio this year.

I know what you mean. He was there for so long you almost expect him to always be there. I had the same feeling back in the early 70's when Ed Kranepool retired from the Mets. He was the first baseman for as long as I was alive, so seeing someone else there was most strange.

That's what I fear. Biggio started playing the year that I grew to love baseball. I spent the entire summer watching almost every game with my dad--and crushing a bit on Biggio. [:)]
