What I'm reading on another online forum and TCOYF says that KY, Replens and Astroglide (and spit, beleive it or not) can kill sperm. They suggest using something called Pre-Seed, which you can order and read about online. The author of TCOYF says that taking a dose of Robitussin 3x a day during your fertile time can increase the quality of CF. Also, make sure you aren't taking antihistimines, as they will dry up the CF as well as your runny nose.

I've also tried lots and lots of water, I mean drinking it! Um, I've also heard carrots, I don't know why, but fresh carrots. Also I think alfalfa is supposed to help with that too? I can't remember, maybe it's, oh what was I taking that helped with that! I took something that almost immediately I got like all this stuff! It might have been EPO, but you can only take that until you ovulate. In fact, I think that's what it was. Evening Primrose Oil, it did really help with the EWCM.

Oh what a can of worms I opened!!! Thanks ladies. It's just hard (as you know) and there's the whole emotional/hormonal thing going on. I think someone said it...I'm happy when others conceive....but sad because we're not there yet. It just doesn't make sense. With my DS (nearly 5) it didn't take too long to conceive him. It was within that normal year of trying. My prayer was that when the right man came along (after my divorce from DS's father) that we'd be able to conceive more children right away. (Didn't want a huge age gap between DS and his siblings). Just keep me in your prayers.

Hi Ladies (waves) Tomorrow, I'm meeting with my ob/gyn to discuss that I want to get pregnant. I made the appt with her because I take a variety (sigh) of daily meds, and I'm not sure how that will work with TTC, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. I also want to discuss with her things like her C-section and induction rate, if she allows doulas, if the hosp has a birthing tub, if I will be required to have an IV, if the hospital encourages mothers to move around and try different positions during labor, etc. Is there anything specific you can think of that I should be sure to ask her? Thanks!!! ~Michelle

Michelle, You might want to ask your question in the pregnancy thread or one of the birthing threads. I really am not sure what questions you will want to ask as it's been awhile since I've been pregnant. For me, a lot of those questions are things I will discuss with my OBGYN after the positive pregnancy test. I had a C-section for my first (and only) child so most likely I will end up being a repeat C-section unless I go into labor naturally. (Most docs don't induce after a C).

Pumpkin, Thank you for asking! YES, I did like what she had to say. 10% ish c-section rates, NO routine episiotomies, I can have a hep-lock with no IV (unless really necessary), I can have mild food/drink, I can have an anti-emetic as a shot or in the IV, I can have a doula, she'd rather stitch a bad tear than an unnecessary episotomy, ... or, I can screw natural delivery and have an epidural ;) My ob/gyn is my health hero. She fixed my vagina :)

Wow! Congrats! That is so awesome! What a great Dr. I should make an appt and talk with my OB GYN before TTC. I am scared and excited, we are supposed to be TTC in 4 months.

Ladies who have dealt with secondary infertility (or even primary infertility)...help me out here, please? I was going to go to bed after a chat with some friends, but I checked my MySpace first. Went to bed...but just laid there wide awake with tears in my eyes over this..... My DS (5) told a couple of people on Sunday that his Mommy is going to have a baby. (One of the ladies sent me a PM via MySpace because she wanted to let me know he had said this, plus I'm sure she was curious about it as well.) It isn't true...at least not yet. We've been trying for quite some time (seems like forever, but that's another story). Anyway, so...the only thing I can gather is he must have picked it up from our prayers. We've been praying every night about this matter and we do talk about it fairly freely. Should we stop talking about these things in front of him? Or just explain to him what's going on? (In 5 year old language, of course). So unless he's prophetic (as his name somewhat implies...LOL)....it just isn't the case. What should I say to him? I'm kind of leaning towards this option...but it's hard to know how to talk about these things to other adults...let alone a child. It's clear that even he is struggling some with this (he's a very sensitive child and sees how much it bothers both his dad and I at times). Most of his friends (all that I can think of) have older or younger siblings. He's pretty much an only (unless we count DH's [step]kids from his 1st marriage who don't live with us and we don't really see). Any ideas? I love babies and I love talking to people who are expecting babies (kind of gets me in the mind set for when we do get pregnant). We just pray it's sooner rather than later and continue to defray the questions (from family and friends) as best as we know how. I'm just really unsure how to proceed with DS and hope some of you ladies will have some insight. Maybe I can sleep now...I sure hope so!!

I also wouldn't accuse him of lying, but I would make sure he knew that that isn't the kind of thing you make up because it can make people sad when they find out it's not true. As for explaining what's going on...I would just tell him that it's not up to Mom and Dad when a baby comes. It's up to God. He really wants a baby, you really want a baby...but you have to wait for God's timing. Praying about it is always good to do, and God hears our prayers, even if He doesn't always say 'yes' right away. ((((((((((((((((((((((((Megan))))))))))))))))))))))))) I know it's hard right now, but I also trust that one day, you will look back and KNOW that God's timing was perfect.

Thanks, Donna. I'll probably talk with him about some of these things later today (he's still sleeping!!) and then we'll talk about it as a family tonight. And I know God's timing is perfect....just wish it was ours sometimes. I guess if that was the case I'd already have a newborn in my arms and probably wouldn't have as much time getting to know you wonderful ladies...

Well, I talked to him (briefly). He didn't seem to get it at all; furthermore, he started talking about something else when I stopped talking. Any suggestions on how I can help him to *get* it? I guess he does seem to take in more than he does...because later he'll say something and I'm like...oh...he did understand. It just isn't quite like a conversation with an adult so I'm never really sure he actually understands...

He's 5. He might really NOT get it. Wait for an open opportunity, I guess?

Daughter of Faith, Sounds like he really doesn't get it yet. I like what Donna said about waiting for an opportunity..I imagine it's hard for a a 5 year old to differntiate between wanting another baby and praying for another baby and mom not actually being pregnant yet. I'm wondering, does he know about how babies are made/grow/etc? That might help him differentiate, too. Maybe also explain that Mom isn't pregnant until Mom says so, or something like that?

Ladies I have a few questions I was hoping you all could answer for me! My DH and I are starting to think about having kids! But I don;t know where to start! I have heard alot about charting. I am not clean on why that helps so much! Care to explain?? I don't know how to figure out the ovalation cycle either!? I am confused on the whole thing! I know it sounds crazy to most of you but this isn't something they taught me in school! They taught me how not to get pregnant!! Could you please explain???

ORIGINAL: clag4christ You should check out or buy a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. That will help you figure out everything you wanted to know about charting and your of ovulation signs. Agreed. Probably coincidence, but I ovulated and got pregnant less than a week after buying Taking Charge of Your Fertility It's really interesting, too... I read the whole thing in less than 3 days, even the parts that had nothing to do with my situation. Also, www.fertilityfriend.com has a lot of information free online to get you started and you can chart online with them for free, too. Good luck and have fun TTC!!! Yup and Yup. I liked keeping up with my charts online and didnt want to buy the program that came with the book, so I liked fertility friend. Though personally I obsess over things and liked just letting things happen for a while, but I have PCOS and really needed to know what was going on. Alot of it depends on your personality, how much "control" do you want to have. Though the book will really explain your body and stuff to you whether you chart or not.

Alot of it depends on your personality, how much "control" do you want to have. Though the book will really explain your body and stuff to you whether you chart or not. I totally agree with this. For my dh and I, we really decided we didn't want to stress about it, or make that part of our lives just about getting pregnant (which trust me, is hard not to do!) So we decided that I wouldn't chart or obsess and just let it happen. Easier said than done. And it did take awhile and we did struggle, but I know even to the end my dh was not wanting to stress and struggle. It used to drive me crazy when people would say this, but it literally came down to the month when I felt I had finally made peace with the Lord in this aspect of our lives that it wasn't going to happen. Maybe ever. And then it did. So I really think it comes down to you and your dh, and where you guys decide to go with it. ETA- I'm not advocating not knowing your body and what's going on with it. I think it's very important to know what's happening and where you're at in your cycle, and be educated. We just didn't want the added stress of temping and charting...which to us, that's what it would have been...stress. To others, I think that gives them less stress.

Loud-N-Proud: Dh and I had talked about when to start a family and decided it would be better to wait a while longer, but didn't want to be on the birth control anymore. We dicussed all of our options and decided to do Natural Family Planning and use a barrier during fertil times. I got a copy of taking charge of your fertility and would be will to send it to you if you would like it. I don't chart and temp, it described the certain types of cervical mucus or fluids that your body produces around certain times and I have just kepts up on that. My cell phone holds what observations I make and my cycle day's. After about six months of it, I know pretty much the few days I ovulate and when to expect my period. We use a diaphragm the entire time, without fail, but since I am aware of my body and cycles I know that when we do decide to start trying the best few days to try. Some people are very scientific and methodical and controlled about it, me, meh, I just feel it will happen when it happens trying or not!!! PM me if you'd like that book! So we have decided on a date to stop preventing and start trying. Since school is really crazy time for me and summer is when we have the most extra money, I have set up a physical for both of us to make sure that all is in tip top shape, I have a preconception appt in october and my yearly in november. There is also a class offered by my hospital for couples thinking about trying for baby. I am a little bit of a spaz about certain things, so I am trying to be prepared health wise now, any other idea's from you wonderful ladies? Anything I'm missing?

It looks like we might start TTC when I go back to work in September. Part of me wants to start now, but something is telling us to wait until I get back to work.
