New people are always welcome!!! Our focus is healthy eating ... and we're all following plans that work well for our lifestyles.

I haven't grilled pineapple, but we have grilled onions, peppers and corn (along with meats, of course!!) There is just something really neat about grilling food, huh?

Six meals a day? Pretty nifty. I eat four meals a day ... works well for my lifestyle and managing my diabetes.

I've just had two days of no calorie counting/logging (we were celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary) ... but I will be back on better track tomorrow. I was just looking in the fridge at my veggie stocks so I could see if I needed to get more!

It's really hard to eat well if you don't plan ahead! At the end of last week, I mad ethe call that we had enough stuff in our freezer and pantry to make it through the weekend... I was right, but today I had nothing to eat! I ended up with a blueberry cobbler bar for breakfast (a glorified fig newton .)

Then, I got a sandwich at the deli at my grocery store while I bought a few groceries. When I went to eat the sandwich, I realized that it was made with white bread!! I'm pretty sure I asked for whole wheat, but maybe not!

I juiced a heart of celery, a very small cuke, a lime, 2 carrots, most of two pears, and a peach as a snack. The pears, peach, and carrots really needed to be juiced because theye were close to going off- in fact one of the pears had gone off and I only used pieces of it. I wanted to taste the cuke (which I don't like) and celery juice together because I have heard that that is really good for you. It isn't bad, but it isn't good either. Anyhow, I got a major vitamin boost this afternoon with all that- and probably more sugar than I needed.

For dinner, I plan to have grilled chicken, cranberry beans, and green salad.

I'm really feeling free not counting calories.

After staying the same for almost a week....... I lost 1 more pound!!! Again after a bad weekend - went to The Keg for my birthday and ate way too much bread, followed by theatre popcorn . Also, my mom made strawberry pie.... need I say more?

7 lbs down, 18 more to go!!

We're leaving for Disney World on Friday - I'm hoping that with all the walking we'll be doing, maybe I'll lose some weight! We're planning to pack a lot of healthy snacks so we're not eating junk all day (and paying big $$ to do so!).

Any good at least semi-healthy snack/lunch ideas? Here's my list so far....
granola bars
baby carrots
snow peas
ham & cheese sandwhiches on whole wheat
pb & honey sandwhiches on whole wheat

I can't agree more... Planning ahead doesn't mean that you need to go weeks ahead but can be done on a day2day basis. Last thing at night, I plan what I'm going to eat for breakfast. After breakfast I plan what I'm going to eat for the rest of the day and prepare (defrost, shop etc) anything that needs to be done.

If you don't like cucumber, don't bother with them. They offer little in nutritional value though they are a not-very-strong duretic. Celery has more beneficial to our health, though it can be high in nitrates, which aren't so good.

It's really good with an apple sliced on it! Has to be done when you're eating though so it doesn't go brown (unless you're ok eating brown apples, I'm not!).

Any good at least semi-healthy snack/lunch ideas?

Fruits (fresh and dried)
Nuts (if they are roasted and salted you may be getting unhealthy added fats and too much salt- go for raw and unsalted)
Celery w/ filliing (cream cheese & flavorings or peanut butter- remember "ants on a log?")
Mild peppers w/ dip (red bell peppers & hummus; cubanelle pepper is mild and good; salsa with veggies)
Edemame w/ soy sauce
Cheese sticks
Whole wheat Crackers (Wheat Thins makes one)

We just got back from there and you can get lots of good veggies and lean meats in restaurants. Don't forget that most restaurants will let substitute their green veggie for the pasta or potato they usually serve. They have a Carrabas, which is one of my favorite restaurants. the grilled chicken is incredible (smoked with some wood like hickory) and the green beans are wonderful (garlicy.) The beans are so good that I get two servings as my two sides. Some places actually serve brown rice!! Oh, and if you plan to eat at sit-down restaurant the parks, make reservations before you leave or first thing when you enter the park. Otherwise you may find yourself having to eat something you'd rather not eat. There are places at the parks to get coffees and tea (iced or hot) so you can control the sugar and avoid artificial sweetners (if that's an issue for you.) They also allow you to take your own water in, and you can make an effort to get water down before you leave for the park so you don't have to buy their water. You can PM me if you want to discuss anything or ask any questions.

I had plain celery juice this morning and it was good. The smell is something I'm not fond of, but I couldn't believe how sweet it was. After trying it with the cuke yeasterday, I was expecting drinkable, but not good. My expectations were wrong. It wa s a lot better than "drinkable." I'll look into the nitrates thing.

I figured out it had something to do with celery and peanut butter but had to look it up ~ the recipe that I saw had rasin (or choc chip) 'ants'...

Peanut butter and celery, I could do... not sure about the rasins or choc chips though

Thought i would join this thread as it sounds very interesting hopefully will help me too.

Am currently on Slimming world and have lost 3 pounds so far! I find this plan so easy. For lunch today i had a massive Jacket potato, big tin of beans, cheese, mushrooms and quorn chicken. (Am still eating it after 45 mins as i made too much) Apart from the cheese which was one of my b healthy options everything else was free. I still can have a cadburys curly wirly and a packet of french fries (walkers crisps) as i get between 5 and 15 syns a day. The only thing i am struggling with is getting my head round some of the syns that they have on the list. (for instance last night i brought a pot of fat free yoghurt and a tin of soup only to find that they arn't free foods grr)

I think it is just about changing your attitude towards food, if you deprive and cut out you will end up binging at some point at this isn't good at all. Also planning ahead helps greatly.

I have my wedding in two years time and need to lose about 5 stone (70 pounds) to bring me down to 10 stone. Even if i don't lost that much will be happy with a 3 stone weight loss (42 pounds)

If anyone wants any of my slimming world recipes i will only be too happy to send them to you.

What's a syn?

Think sin ~ often snack-type food, that isn't always good for you and many would frown on.

Slimming world and have lost 3 pounds so far!

I'd be interested in hearing about that diet. Is it low fat? Low cal? Low carb? Congrats on the weight loss, so far!

I bought lentils today and quixoa. I'm going to have two find the two threads that had a bunch of recipes for those items. I've never eaten either one. I need to find a good recipe so I won't think I don't like them when it's the recipe that's bad and not the bean/grain.

I also loaded up on the green veggies and squashes. They are all just so beautiful!

Crazy about lentils
Lentil recipes
Quinoa recipes

What kind of lentils did you buy? You can sprout them (and quinoa) for variety (and if you don't like them cooked, you may like them as sprouted grains )

I've got a quinoa recipe for a 'porridge' that I really like... post #99 of this thread...

slimming world is about food combining, here is the site address. http://www.slimmingworld.com/ Some really good recipes on the website.

It's basically trying to eat as many free foods as you can and limiting things like how much bread and milk you have.

You can have a original (meat) day or a green (vegi)day or mix to max (both).

I have my weigh in with my group tonight, think i have maintained because of the wedding i went to at the weekend. I also went to Warwick Castle the day after and it all went to pot but went back on it on Monday.

By the way convant there are a few lentil recipes on there which are free from syns on a green day!

A syn is a points value of that certain food depending on weither your on a red or green day or weither its a unhealthy snack etc. Because i do green days nearly all the time i can eat as many potatoes, pasta, rice, beans, lentals, fruit etc. Whereas if i was on a red day Meat and poultry would be free and the vegitables would be a healthy extra up to a certain amount and then i would go into my syns.

If you are having a meal you have made, with someone else and they are having the same as you, whatever syns you have put into that meal you half or quater depending on how many people are eating with you.

Thank you both! I wasn't looking forward to sifting through lentil recipes, so thanks for the links, aga.

I got lentils (no designation, but they look similar in color to the green ones) and red lentils.

I had a brussel sprout juice this morning. And I like them!! You know that bitter, burning taste that cabbage and cauliflower sometimes have? The juice was that taste! Again!!

Don't. I'll reserve them for eating steamed with butter and a smidge of salt.

A few days ago, I saw a story on the AOL news page about a celebrity who's trying to lose weight by drinking SEAWEED SHAKES!

I'm doing well. I've been logging my food and exercise at sparkpeople and keeping my calories at reasonable levels. My carbs are low too, but not low enough, so I'm still working on that. I've started regular strength training and trying to do more cardio. I gained 3 lbs last week, so I need to make more effort to lose enough weight so I'm under 200 lbs by May 14th.

I was thinking about you, Melissa ... since I've been eating more protein and fewer carbs. I've been trying to keep my net carbs under 150g per day.... which seems to be working well to control my diabetes, without going too low.

I've found some yummy high fiber, high protein low net carb bagels (10 net carbs) if you're interested. I order 6 bags at a time online.... they're pretty tasty. (And 10 carbs, woo hoo!)

In the year of 2007 -
Starting Weight: 235-240 lbs.
Weight in the Beginning of 2008: 171 lbs.

Most of the weight I lost was unfortunately a good majority of muscle mass. One meal a day, burning more calories than taking in, lack of proper eating/weight-lighting, and other vital things I wasn't aware of at the time.

I'm currently at 178 lbs. and I'm hoping to gain a lot of it back in terms of muscle. Hopefully starting out by eating 5-6 meals every 2-3 hours, and keep a reasonable weight-lifting routine with the lack of equipment I've got.

I'm still trying to calculate how many cal/protein/carbs/fat I need to eat in a day.

Stubborn belly fat.

How do you get rid of it.

I'm eating healthy, working out faithfully and it seems everything is going down but my stomach. How do I tackle belly fat at the same time?
