I've been reading over the thread for the last several weeks but haven't posted. What an encouraging thread

I lost quite a bit of weight about 5 years ago and have gained some back...I've been playing with the same 15 pounds for about 2 years and never making progress beyond that...lose then gain, lose then gain. I just haven't been motivated enough to do the work again, I guess. I finally started on Nutrisystem last week(I call it my diet for dummies) and am loving it so far. This is just my fifth day and I've lost 3 pounds. I start back at the gym this next week thanks to a gift certificate my sister in law gave me, so, so I hope I can get those 15 pounds off my back(or tush as the case may be) and work on the rest of it for a change!

Thanks for the welcome

I am amazed, but yes! I am very picky with textures and normally hate prepared foods, but I haven't had anything I didn't enjoy yet. I expected to have to get used to it, but the food is really good. There are many meals I haven't tried yet, so I'm sure there is bound be something I won't like, but there is a big variety and you only order what you like each month. I'm really enjoying it so far. One of my close friends has lost 50 pounds on it and is now off all blood pressure and cholesterol medications, so she inspired me to give it a try.

Haven't weighed myself lately, but I put on my light winter jacket this morning (yes, I needed it!) and was able to zip it up, which I couldn't do in the spring. As I was walking to work, I realized, not only did it zip, but I had a sweater on underneath!

My eating was a little less controlled the past week. Not out-of-control, just not as careful as I was. And I am apartment hunting, which has cut into my exercise time. I am getting an average of 40 minutes instead of 60+; BUT my goal is to do at least 30 minutes per day. So, even if I am not doing as much as I was or would like, I am still doing great!

I lost 6 pounds this week! But, it's the first week on my program, so I know it won't keep up at that pace for sure. Too bad!

Praying for everyone...

Keep up the good work gang. Remember the science behind losing weight is simple. Burn more calories then you consume. Reading through some of the threads in here I see some comments such as " I wish I had the money to join ****** " but I don't....

Don't be discouraged! You don't need to join any type of fee based program or " pay for the food " type program. In fact, as a professional fitness trainer I recommend that people not join such programs. Not to try and rain on anyones parade if you've already have enrolled in one, but for those that haven't you don't need to.

If support or knowlege is what you need try Weight Watchers. Five bucks a week and they'll teach you how to count calories.

Just stay positive and remember that you didn't gain the pounds you wish to lose overnight. So don't be discouraged when they don't come off overnight. Keep up the good work and always remember our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and to keep them healthy!

Yeah, I haven't lost any more weight, but I wore a pair of jeans yesterday that I could even get over my hips last month, let alone zip or button. And the jeans I have been wearing (one size larger than those) I can now pull on & off without unzipping/unbuttoning.

It has been 8 weeks now that I have been recording my exercise/eating and I have lost around 7lbs. I started exercising regularly and eating better for a few weeks before I started recording, though, and was exercising a little, but more sporadically for weeks before that and have lost a total of 22 lbs since July or so.

At the start of those 8 weeks, I was exercising 30-60 minutes, 5-7 days, now I am exercising 60+ just about every day, with a day off now and then.

So, I look back over those 8 weeks and think- that was so much work and only 7 lbs?!? On the Biggest Loser, they lose that in a week! BUT I also feel a LOT better! More alert, more energetic, my moods are more stable, I can reach farther, I can walk faster, and so on!

I feel so much better, that even if I don't lose another pound, I will keep up the changes I have made.

My new goal is to keep up what I am doing, plus add in strength training every other day. I was doing it sporadically, because I can't get to the gym every other day and I was using their strength training machines. But I can work in a half hour with free weights, even on the days I work. I did that the day before yesterday and am STILL sore (good, I-worked-hard-sore, not-I'm-in-pain-and-don't-want-to-get-out-of-bed-sore). SO, I think maybe the free weigths gave me a better work out than the gym machines anyhow!

You can buy free weights pretty cheap from any store with a sporting goods dept, too. And you don't need a whole set at once... get the weight you want to use/are ready for now... then when you are ready to move up, get the next set. In fact, when I first started I used 1lb cans of veggies!

Tara

The weight watchers here are way more than 5.00 a week unless your workplace sponsors it.

I like the free weights, then the cable machines and also just plain using your own body's resistance like push ups.

Good for you. I haven't weighed myself just been getting some extra cardio in and do free weights today or tomorrow.

Free weights are good because they work your muscles more functionally.

IonMoon= I just noticed that I can wear jeans that were too tight for me
to wear...even though the scales shows no weight loss.
I have been trying to walk at least 20-30 minutes daily.

Congrats on your sucess IonMoon!

Looks like we are getting some good information about weights!

Hello everyone! Mind if I join in too?

I was reading in my fitness magazine about diets geared toward body shapes. It was a great article and explained the pros and cons of each body shape. It was interesting as it described those with pear shapes compared to those with apple shapes. Supposedly, those of us with apple shapes tend to lose weight easier but have the most health problems associated with belly fat. It suggested that apples eat more protein and less simple carbs so that's what I'm trying. I find exercize tough to fit into such a busy day. I work full time + (8am - 6pm) and homeschool my 12 yo dd. It's often well after 7 pm before I get home then it's cook/clean and collapse! Mornings are always such a rush since I have trouble getting up in time Both my husband and I deal with bouts of insomnia so by the time we do get to sleep we are dragging to get up in time to get to work. Thankfully, we work together and own our own business (more added stress).

Medically speaking I'm actually pretty darn healthy! (praise the LORD!) but I've gained 35 pounds in the past 3 1/2 years and am fighting all I have to lose it again. I had lost more than 50 pounds before and was on my way but.... life happens, old habits return and stress takes it toll.

Does anyone else struggle to lose weight and get healthy while juggling so much?

That's great Betty!

I haven't weighed myself in several days. I have been keeping to my exercise schedule, though. I was worried, because I was sick with a cold for a few days and couldn't exercise. In the past when that has happened, it has always been hard for me to get back into a routine, but I stepped back into it with no problem!

I am also concerned that with the cold weather coming I will be less motivated. We have an exercise bike, so I have been walking during the day when it is sunny, and riding the bike in the evening.

My dh and I are separating, and I will be moving in two weeks, though. We haven't decided who will get the bike! If he will use it, I'll leave it, because he is less motivated to exercise. I'll find some other way if I have to.

Tara P

Well, I think that I will take my scale to the local firing range and let people use it for target practice. This morning, the stupid thing told me that I gained 2 1/2 lbs.! I'm back over 200 lbs. again and feeling like a failure.

I did get some exercise though. Instead of my usual strength training exercises, I did some cleaning and moving heavy furniture up and down stairs. I've found some muscles I didn't know I had, but the calorie burn is worth it. This should take care of the Papa Murphy's Stuffed 5 meat pizza we had for dinner due to time constraints.
