ORIGINAL: Mrs.X LOL, I don't know if you've been a Bay Area long enough to know the old Lucky's before Albertson's bought (married) them. Bleh! I went to a new Lucky's last time I was down there, and it was nice, but it was no Fred Meyer. When we first moved here in '76, Lucky's was the cheapest in town. Albertson's was around, but we seldom shopped there. Fry's came later. Fry's was cheaper and closer than Lucky's so my dad started going there. Albertson's is now gone. So is Fry's. Lucky's is now where Fry's used to be. (The old Lucky's is now a Staples.) Now we have two Safeway's. They are more expensive than Lucky's and have horrible produce. We have a Foodmaxx that is fairly inexpensive but they are understaffed, bare shelves, dirty store, meat and produce are horrible. I'll pay the extra and go to Lucky's. Hehe....I didn't know you lived down there since '76. You've been in the Bay Area longer than me, and I was born there! Hehehe! Yeah, Lucky's/Albertson's is definetely cheaper than Safeway. We have both Albertsons and Safeway here, but they are expensive compaired to Winco. Winco is an employee owned warehouse style store. It's hit or miss with the produce and meat, but you sure can't beat the prices. I think the closest one to you is in Vacaville. We also have Fred Meyer here which is like an upscale super Wal*Mart. It's expensive, that's for sure.

You know, I keep thinking that there is something I need to post here, and when I get to the computer I forget it. Grrr..... What is pantomime? (That's not what I need to post, but it's a question I have.) As in Tina O'Brien left Corrie to do other acting gigs and all she can get is panto. (By the way, my understanding of British culture is larger than Coronation Street, it's just I watch it every day.)

I actually moved here originally in January of '76 (just after my 11th birthday) and lived in the Bay Area and San Joaquin Valley until 1995. The only exceptions were around '79 I lived in Gurnee, IL for a year and in '92 I lived in PA for a year. I moved to Indiana in '95 (when I got married) and moved back here last Thanksgiving.

Right on Roberta...I miss the Bay Area, but not the cost of living and sales tax! We don't have a sales tax here in Oregon. And, did you know it's illegal to pump your own gas here...it's nice.

I love panto's!! My grandparents would take us to one whenever there was one at the local theatre, they are popular in Australia, and yes Aga alot of our Aussie Soaps actors appear in them over there don't they? Seems its become tradition. I used to love shouting out as a child "BEHIND YOU!! He's BEHIND YOU!" ahhh memories.

So my husband works for a large British publishing house. He's in the warehouse for the summer since he can't teach during the summer. Whenever books come back and they are damaged the people who work there are free to take them (because otherwise they would be thrown out). So my husband has been grabbing every children's book he can find. It's great because there's all these series that they use in schools. But I find myself laughing all the time in the difference of language. One day my daughter was learning to call 999 in case of emergency.

Is 999 what the Brits call for emergency? What do the Aussies call? I went to BC a couple times so I knew Canada was 911 too. You know what's funny about that...My dad was telling me that folks used to call it "nine-eleven" instead of "nine-one-one" but people would be in such a panic to call Emergency that they couldn't find the eleven on the phone. Hehehehe, so they began calling it "nine-one-one" instead. I think he said that was back in the 60's.

We do use 000 here in Australia, I am pretty sure when someone dials 911 there is a recorded message that says to dial 000 instead. Aga something that always has me stumped, is the Royal Family. Why is william going to be the King ahead of Charles? Or even Andrew or Edward or Margaret?

Or even Andrew or Edward or Margaret? Well Margaret is dead so she doesn't stand a cat's chance of making it to the thone. I don't understand why it's stumped you, it is pretty simple. The heir apparent is the oldest son, (or daughter if there is no son) when the reigning King/Queen die (or abdicate). Charles is the Queen's oldest son (oldest child as well). If he, William and Harry were all to die (before William and Harry had children) before the Queen, the next in line would be Andrew (as oldest surviving son), bypassing Princess Anne. Andrew's daughters would then be next in line, and then their children (if they had any) and so on. As it stands now, it's Charles, William, Harry, Andrew, Beatrice, Eugenie, Edward, Louise, James, Anne, Peter, Zara. They're the direct descentants. I believe that it would then go to Margaret's children.

LOL I meant Anne!! Well why do all the media say that William will be the King? That's all I ever hear. It stumps me because we aren't really taught about it in school, but seeing as we are still part of the Monarchy I wanted to know. Why does it bypass Princess Anne? Wouldn't it make more sense that if the oldest son died, and there was another son alive that he would get it and not the dead son's son? LOL that's a mouthful!

Well why do all the media say that William will be the King? That's all I ever hear. Because he will be King ~ but he will be King after Charles. If your media is saying that he's going to be King before Charles, I suggest you contact them and ask them to correct what they say. quote:
Why does it bypass Princess Anne? It doesn't bypass her. But it goes down the male line first. There have been talks about this changing, so if William had a daughter then a son, the daughter would become Queen first. quote:
You never know, she's a tough old bird! Yep she is, and her mother lived a good life. From my understanding, she's not likely to step down either. Can't help but wonder how Philip's death would affect her though. I know he has his faults but he's committed to his role of supporting her.

I understand why you were wondering that Nicole. In our media as well it's always "future king William" and, "Prince Charles." There is never any mention that Charles will be king.

Well think about it - just look at Charles! Who in their right mind would get excited about the thought of him becoming King?!!
