What are your thoughts on the new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover?

Are you thinking "It just looks like the rest of the covers, Cosmo......"

Are you thinking "This is too provocative, I'm embarrassed when I have my little boy with me".

Are you thinking "She's Hot"

Do you think they should yank them off the shelves?

Could you just care less?

Pretty much care less. I don't read that magazine swimsuits or no. Haven't even seen it.

Who would do the yanking?

Government? The gov can't even ban real porn (unless it's really bad stuff...). A ban on SI is not going to fly at all.

Store owners?? Why would they care about stocking one month of SI when they don't care about 12 months of the year of boobs almost hanging out on the cover of Cosmo & similar magazines?

And I guess it begs the question of why would women (collectively) object to SI swimsuit magazine when they don't object to Cosmo & such?

foreverdaughter -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/2/2008 6:41:14 PM)

Well, that probably explains why hardly no one is responding to my topic.
He hasn't seen it yet.
And I don't know who would do the yanking. You're right. No one cares.
The world does not care. This is probably very mild compared to what they see at home on TV and Internet.
I appreciate your response and although I am not suggesting you view the picture, this is more than just clevage.
I have covered it up twice at a local Drug Store (I know, its not doing any good).
I don't even know why I am asking men this question. Cause I think what bothers me the most is the young boys being exposed to it.

9drtr -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/2/2008 7:19:30 PM)

It's one of the magazines I'm careful not to look at.

broyce1981 -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/2/2008 7:54:41 PM)

My first thought has always been what do swimsuit models have to do with sports? Honestly it doesn't bother me personally. There's lots of other men's magazines with similar covers as well. So, I guess you could count me in the 'could care less' category.

earthless -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/2/2008 9:19:39 PM)

What are your thoughts on the new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover?

Have never cared for it. It's like the dumb guys that stare at the Sears catalog or a Victoria's Secret catalog, why? If you're lusting like that there is real porn.

Are you thinking "It just looks like the rest of the covers, Cosmo......"

Pretty much, sex sells.

Are you thinking "This is too provocative, I'm embarrassed when I have my little boy with me".

No, but then again I don't buy SI.

Are you thinking "She's Hot"

If she is, then she is. I am not blind so I can indeed appreciate a good looking woman without necessarily lusting for her.

Do you think they should yank them off the shelves?

Last time I checked America is not a theocracy so why would I expect "them" to yank it off the shelves? Why would we expect non-believers to act like believers? Seems silly and naive.

Could you just care less?

Eh, obviously I cared enough to go through the time to respond to your questions.

Let's be real....

Sadly but truthfully enough, young boys are exposed to real porn, gore, death, and a slew of other things on the Internet that make your concerns about them seeing a woman in a bikini in SI seem really Ned Flander'ish.

I have dealt with kids (in my job) 7 years old that have oral sex and do things which blow the SI concern out of the water.

foreverdaughter -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/2/2008 9:41:14 PM)

Why am I bothering to look? Are you asking me or the guys here?
For me, it's a distraction. Just like a pretty bride on a bridal cover.

Hi earthless,
"Sadly but truthfully enough, young boys are exposed to real porn, gore, death, and a slew of other things on the Internet "
"I have dealt with kids (in my job) 7 years old that have oral sex and do things which blow the SI concern out of the water"

Are we talking about Christian families here?
Or the world?

draexo -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/2/2008 9:47:14 PM)

I work for a drug store. There are things much worse than SI - just go to the magazine aisle. SI gets all the press but there are much worse things out there right under your nose.

foreverdaughter -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/2/2008 9:50:45 PM)

Have you seen the particular SI cover I am referring to?
I sure haven't noticed anything worse. But, I'm not walking
down the magazine aisle alot either.

Hmm...
well... the SI issue is either not being displayed or not out yet in my store, as I cut down the magazine aisle to get to the office faster (its a short-cut).
I will look tomorrow. It is all eye candy, you know!

Christian and everyone else. Christian families are not perfect (heck, they seem to be the most problematic) nor are they shielded from the issues of this world.

foreverdaughter -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/3/2008 12:01:20 PM)

"nor are they shielded from the issues of this world".

Why wouldn't these "christian" parents have protection and blocking on their computers!!??

Maybe they do, but the kids see it at another kid's house.

Kids have access to the Internet at school, other friends houses, etc.. and with all the free Wi-Fi around and nearly all of it not running any Firewall/Site blockers kids can access what they want if that is what they are looking for.

The_Omega_Syndrome -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/3/2008 3:25:24 PM)

You can't stop the children from encountering all the crazy issues in the world (even swimsuit issues! HA! a play on words! Go me!). All you can do is prepare them to make the right decisions when they are confronted.

foreverdaughter -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/3/2008 5:50:46 PM)

Forget the Swimsuit Issue, apparently there are much greater concerns out there. I have a toddler boy and I am scared to death for him to enter into this world. I honestly pray the Lord comes back before then.
Some of your post tones sound like this, or maybe I am just taking it this way----"Oh, yeah, it's all around us, it's out there, kids are gonna see it, who ha, can't do nothin about it."
I would like to know if any of you men have children and the ages and what you are doing about these issues.
Don't get me wrong, I am not telling you what to do, it's your family, I just wanna know what other families are doing to protect their children from the Internethell and the Televisionhell.

I am a married man and have a baby boy. I am also a close uncle to my two nieces (ages 9 and 4) that live across the street from us. I was also a pastor for over a decade and know that many of those that did all they could to shelter and censor everything from their kids have children who dropped out of high school, got pregnant, got into drugs, went to jail, went nuts when they got out of their sheltered bubble.

I am not saying that is an absolute.. but I do know that we are to raise our children in the Word and not pretend that there is no evil out there. Because then they will most likely rebel and or do things behind their parents back.

My biggest point in all of this that an issue of SI is FAR FAR FAR from anything to be highly concerned about when we consider the real evils out there for all to see.

PreserveWildlife -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/3/2008 6:59:57 PM)

When I think of the SI swimsuit magazine I think "irrelevant." It's so far down on the radar that except for the occasional commercial I never think of it.

I agree.

tbrobinson -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/4/2008 7:52:02 AM)

HMMM have not seen it, but it would not interest me. I am sure that they keep pushing the envelope trying to sustain readership that is fleeing to the internet.

As far as a threat, I think it is not even on the radar screen compared to the rest of the stuff out there on the internet.

ajlewis -> RE: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine (3/4/2008 8:45:57 AM)

...couldn't care less. There are a half-dozen just like it in the same rack so SI just gets lost in the crowd.
