THAT'S IT!!! I am calling PETA and the health department and the CDC! [8D]

L5FanLady -> RE: Shocking Christian Revelations (3/6/2008 4:24:43 PM)

I love food made with alcohol. Beer-battered anything, beef burgundy and another meal you find at chinese restuarants made with chicken (hmm. Sorry can't remember....the alcohol is named after a city in Louisiana, I think....) I don't drink, I just like foods cooked with or in alcohol.

I am sometimes selfish.

I love to eat.

and that is all I can think of at the moment.[8D]

jfaye -> RE: Shocking Christian Revelations (3/6/2008 4:33:22 PM)

Okayyyy--I'm working my way up to some bigger stuff!

I weigh more now, than at the time of my photo I used in my graphic-link
on my first posting! [:o]

This is getting way too, invasive--next thing you know, you'll expect me
to confess that I sometimes am selfish, or self-absorbed or something[sm=popsigh.gif]!

Good one, 'HisCovenant'!! hehehe

My lest favorite song ever written is "I am a Friend of God." You know, that ear-splitting modern worship fluff (hard to call it music). If I ever hear it played, I just change the lyrics to "God is my only friend" or sometimes "I am God's only friend."

"I am God's only friend" is better? [&:]

HisCovenant -> RE: Shocking Christian Revelations (3/6/2008 4:57:01 PM)

That was the shocking part. [;)]

HisCovenant -> RE: Shocking Christian Revelations (3/6/2008 5:16:13 PM)

I find Masses, Requiems, (both sung in Latin) and Sacred Oratorios more worshipful than most hymns and contemporary songs. [:)]

My favorite place to sit in our sanctuary is in front of a certain Down's Syndrome man who sings off pitch, changes the words to the songs, and cries aloud to Jesus with both appology and praise.

I abhor "devotionals."

That's enough for now. [:D]

earthless -> RE: Shocking Christian Revelations (3/6/2008 5:19:27 PM)

I ABSOLUTELY and UTTERLY hate pantomimes... and the girls that dress up all the same and then do emotional gestures/dances to songs being played over the audio system.

GAG!!!!! [:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(]

I envy you! I love the way you worded it... with both apology and praise.

Maybe that is why I have never been able to do them.

Walker311 -> RE: Shocking Christian Revelations (3/6/2008 5:24:50 PM)

I enjoy the sound of nails clipping and children crying in church. Oh~! And nose blowing and throat clearing.

That man makes me cry every time in shame at how shallow my worship is. He is so obviously repentant and joyful, even within that repentance. It's beautiful!!! That is a shocking statement because I am known for not crying. Dh's bff (ha! He'd kill me if he saw that) calls me "the rock."

Earthless- you reminded me of something else shocking about me:
I see no point whatsoever for clowns. They are not funny and they do not make me smile. I'm not scared of them, I just think they are stupid.

Which reminds me of something else shocking:
I don't find the Three Stooges funny at all.

Walker- you forgot cell phones ringing in the middle of a prayer. [:)]

And the people that actually enjoy them and find them entertaining are even more stupid. They shouldn't be allowed to have children.

Yeah, I said it.

HisCovenant -> RE: Shocking Christian Revelations (3/6/2008 5:34:26 PM)

Surely, those that enjoy them are the children? [:D]

Walker311 -> RE: Shocking Christian Revelations (3/6/2008 5:37:18 PM)

I just love it when 20 gazillion people get up during preaching. I love to hear people sing songs too big for them and they try to do all the runs like the Christian artist that they are attempting to copy.

Love it when we are supposed to be singing as a congregation and hardly anyone is.

Why do grown men wear shorts and flipflops to church? How many of you guys did I just sting? [8D]

Remember when all the men used to wear ties?

I've depressed myself now. Whats the world coming to?

Oops! somebody go fetch it (whiners thread) so we can get back on shocking and terrible and disgusting and reprehensible and... things that you Christians do.

earthless -> RE: Shocking Christian Revelations (3/6/2008 5:46:50 PM)

During the course of my week I am very careful on whose hands I shake.. I wash my hands a lot and always take care to not touch any orifice if I just finished shaking someone's hands and I had not yet had a chance to wash them.

So you guessed it..............................................

Church was absolute torture for me when I knew that certain people there did not wash their hands after using the bathroom. And they were the ones that absolutely always came up to me wanting to shake my hand.

Let me guess! You have ocd and keep a mental list of non-washers that you will take to the grave.

Our pastor refers to it as "washing off the fellowship." It shocked me the first time I heard him say it, but then the gross-factor of it sunk in, and my shock disappeared.

earthless -> RE: Shocking Christian Revelations (3/6/2008 5:58:03 PM)

On a related note....

Sunday mornings...

Wake up, shower, wash my face, apply moisturizer, and a small dab of cologne.

Enter church smelling good and feeling great....

Walk into the sanctuary and get approached by several women each with their own perfume reeking to high heaven.. with two layers of pound cake make-up ready to smear the side of my clean shaven face.

Sigh.

So now I am aiming for my seat... smelling of five different women perfumes and both sides of my face smeared and reeking of makeup.

This vicious cycle repeats itself several times before the start of the service and sometimes even during worship time.

So now I am standing there waiting to get called up for the sermon and I am trying my best to concentrate on my sermon notes... but ready to pass out from the over powering scent of Chanel #5.

My family has a tradition of going to my parent's house for "Sunday Dinner". We head there immediately after the end of the morning service. Our old church did not have an evening Sunday service so that families could spend the rest of that day together.

As soon we all walked inside my parent's house.. we formed a line to "wash off the church folk" from our hands. Even my three year old niece would jump and down the bathroom sink saying, "I need to get rid of churchy germies.."

We're going to hell. [&:]
