A man in my congregation asked me if we would eat food in Heaven.
I told him that Jesus consumed food while in His resurrection body.
What are your thoughts on this subject?

It will be hard to eat the marriage supper if there is no eating. lol.

It's ALL super sweet and delicious, but non-fattening.

Revelation tells of trees producing 12 manner of fruit.
Fruit is for eating.
Leaves are for healing.
So we have to eat them as well.

The only thing we won't do is reproduce and sin.

The Moody Church and Moody Bible Institute are highly respected around the nation and the world for their sound doctrine.. here is an excerpt from a magazine article they did on the topic of Heaven:

quote:

WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM

At the final resurrection, we will have an eternal body like that of Christ. "We know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is" (1 John 3:2). The continuity between Christ’s earthly and heavenly body was clear to see; for example, the nail prints were in His hands. The disciples recognized Him instantly, and He even ate fish with them (Luke 24: 36-43). But there were also radical changes. He was able to travel from one place to another without physical effort and went through doors without opening them.

Evidently we too shall be able to travel effortlessly. Just as Christ could be in Galilee and then suddenly appear in Judea, so we shall be free from the limitations of terrestrial travel. That does not mean, of course, that we will be omnipresent as God is; we will be limited to one place at one time. But travel will be swift and effortless.

To the delight of many people, we shall still eat — not because we are hungry, but because we will delight in the fellowship it affords. After His resurrection, Christ ate fish with His disciples in Jerusalem and prepared a meal for them on the shores of Galilee (John 21:9-13). Of course believers will be present at the marriage supper of the Lamb (Rev. 19:7). Read Revelation 21 and 22 to capture a glimpse of the New Jerusalem.

Please can we have chocolate and all the foods that we can't have here because they're not good for us?

This is certainly a delightful thread to return to after being out of town and disconnected from the forum! Yeah! I'm glad MOODY sees things this way as well. I am very much looking forward to the marriage supper of the Lamb and I think we're in for alot of surprises! More delights than we can imagine. That's our wonderful God!

You're all more than welcome! [:)]

Pastor Erwin Lutzer is my current interim pastor/mentor - as I have been "churchless" for almost the last two years and also considering my past mentor (Dr. Adrian Rogers - Bellevue Baptist Church/Love Worth Finding Ministries) passed to be with the Lord.

For those interested.. Dr. Lutzer wrote a counter piece to this one titled, "The Agonies of Hell" - located here: http://www.moodymagazine.com/articles.php?action=view_article&id=99

I didn't look at the links, but...

...uhh, aren't we going to be on a new earth for eternity? We're not gonna be floating around in some "heaven" but the New Jerusalem will be here. (See Revelation 21, the first 4 verses are good.)

So... no floating around on clouds or eating Philly. (OK, so we might eat cream cheese, but it definitely won't be like the Philly commercials - ha!)

I think that keeping this in mind will rearrange some of our thinking about "heaven".

earthless -> RE: Eating in Heaven (3/17/2008 5:23:53 PM)

Tricia,

Psst... read the link.

From what I understand, we will only be in "Heaven" only for the time after we die (if we die....HALLELUJAH!!) and for the seven year Tribulation (yes, I am pre-trib) but then it's to earth with us: This present earth for the Millenial reign of Christ, and the New Earth (New Jerusalem) for eternity.

I feel that where ever God is, where ever Jesus is, THAT is Heaven.

So bring on the food!!![:D][:D][:D]

heaven cannot be heaven without chocolate you know,lol.

SonInMe1 -> RE: Eating in Heaven (3/17/2008 11:24:43 PM)

If we eat in the life after, it will be perfectly delicious and nutricious...if we need nutrition.

Which brings up other questions like...waste products. How will our body perform? Will it need energies and if we consume them will they be 100% converted into energy without waste?

No bathrooms in heaven? Will we sweat? Need showers? Wear clothes? Will we hug? Fall in love? There will be no procreation...but will there be recreation?

I think heaven.....is beyond our abilities to understand. Wether its eternity on the New Earth or in Heaven, God will have it under control and it will be...what He wills it to be.

Walker311 -> RE: Eating in Heaven (3/18/2008 6:52:00 AM)

Yeah! The only thing on the menu is leftovers... lots and lots of manna.

L5FanLady -> RE: Eating in Heaven (3/18/2008 6:01:57 PM)

Somewhere I read a verse....I think it was in Isaiah.....where it gave the menu of a feast. However, I don't remember the verse nor the context that it was in. Interesting though. I think I would like to find it again![:)]

Itlyn1kc -> RE: Eating in Heaven (3/18/2008 10:32:37 PM)

man, I can't wait to be able to eat whatever I want!!! I work on fitness and nutrition and have my own website, and I just thought about this, if I could work right next to God keeping everyone fit in heaven!!! That would be the best job ever!! But we could eat whatever we want and never gain a pound!!

AMEN to that...lol

So, will there also be toilets in heaven?

After Jesus' resurrection.. I don't think He was much concerned about number 1 and or number 2. I don't suspect neither will we in our glorified bodies.

SonInMe1 -> RE: Eating in Heaven (3/19/2008 8:38:44 AM)

I doubt any carnalities will exist in heaven.

No need or lust for...

food

sex

power

pride.

Our new bodies will be free from all of its past needs like energy consumption, procreation and the production of waste materials. We won't get angry or lustful or covet so we won't worry about what the menu of the Bride's Supper will be or how we will look or what clothes, if any, we will wear.

Heaven, or our eternal place of residence, will be unlike any experience we have ever had.

Radical.

earthless -> RE: Eating in Heaven (3/19/2008 12:03:31 PM)

Jesus, after the resurrection, did not NEED to eat.. but He did because God knows it serves as a great form of enjoyment and fellowship.

Look at all historic and time marker events in human history, culture, etc... all events are marked by food and some events entirely focus on food/drink and the fellowship it provides.

So no, we won't NEED to eat, but we have some hints in Scripture and the examples of Jesus that we very well may be still doing it (eating).
