How much do you care about chivalry in a guy?
|
| Chivalry is my number one priority. |
|
| It's very important to me. No chivalry, no date. |
|
| Not too important, but I'd appreciate it if you were a gentleman. |
|
| I guess it's an okay concept, if you're into old-fashioned stuff. |
|
| I don't care about it at all. Either way is fine. |
|
| Frankly, I find it a bit annoying. |
|
| I can open the door by myself, you chauvinist! |

Just a poll I am conducting, trying yet again to prepare for that ever-elusive girlfriend, if and when she does come along. This one, of course, asks how important it is for a guy to treat you like a queen, with self-sacrificial love, respect and dignity. Chivalry, in a word. Thanks for putting up with all the questions I've asked before, ladies. A few more are likely on the way, if you're willing to answer them. Ah, there is much data to collect, so many particulars of information I must still learn before becoming involved in romantic discourse with a Venusian . . . er, I mean, . . . a girl. j/k Thank you for your time, ladies. [Tips hat, bows]

Chivalry (I assume you mean opening doors, holding coats, etc) is not The Most Important thing but HIGHLY appreciated. I have learned to love it.

I like chivalry in some forms. The chivalrous thing that gets on my nerves is when my husband tried to hold open a door for me, yet there are other people in the way and it would be better if he would just go first instead of making me walk around him to enter the door first. I do find it nice though when men I don't know take the time to hold a door and smile.

I'm pretty self-sufficient, thank you very much, but it melts my heart when a guy knocks himself out to treat me like a queen. So it is very important to me. Only time it ever got in the way was once when my boy was trying to be sweet and told the nice waitor I was through with my plate and I wasn't.

I love it. I find it very refreshing because a lot of men don't make the effort anymore.

Authentic chilvery is very honoring to a female as respect is to a male. It's not a bad thing for a man to be willing to think of someone other than himself. A great character trait in a guy. ...now the swarthy trying to impress for the sake of impression kind...not so much or a controlling kind of behavior...not so much. But a guy who genuinely gets the intention of chilvery....*sigh*

It is important. Although it definitely could be carried to extremes, I mean I don't want to be treated like a helpless creature! But maybe then it wouldn't be called chivalry anymore!!

"Chivalry" as in manners and thoughtfullness is wonderful. Treating a woman (or any person) as someone that can't think for themselves or take care of themselves is not. Respect is (as usual imo) the key. Something done in courtsey is nice, in condescension is not. But I love having doors opened for me, holding my coat, walking on the outside of the sidewalk, flowers, all that is heart melting from someone you date, & nice from someone that is just being a gentleman.

Chivalry = hot. It shows that you're looking out for her and you're not completely self-absorbed.

I should have read your explanation before I answered. I picked "not too important, but I'd appreciate it if you were a gentleman," thinking you meant manners like opening the door, etc. (I love that kind of stuff, but I have met some goodhearted men out there who don't think to do that. I wouldn't want to rule someone out for accidentally not having good manners.) But when I read your interpretation, "... for a guy to treat you like a queen, with self-sacrificial love, respect and dignity," my answer changes to "very important." Maybe the queen part I could forgo, but the rest seem essential. I think for any relationship to work, both people have to be self-sacrificing. That's just necessary when you get two people with two separate wills together. And being treated with respect and dignity are absolute musts.

It is nice... He treats me like a queen and I treat him like a prince. He teases about it but I know he appreciates it. So do I!

It depends on his intentions by being chivalrous. If he's the type of guy who's expecting "favors" in return, I'll pay for my own drinks...thanks. If he's just genuinely a nice guy who enjoys opening doors and paying for drinks, then kudos to him. He's a keeper.

This day in age you don't see much of it anymore. I do like it when it happens though. Som | | |
