Not that it matters. But I HAVE READ THIS WHOLE THREAD!

Firstly, I'm NOT WOF. I was very impressed with the scholarship and wisdom exhibited here. It would appear that generally speaking, WOF does not like to deal with Scripture at all, except for finding short phrases that suit their purpose (though have to give gtp some credit here). Stonewalling seems to be a favored tactic.

Keep up the good work

Wow. I'm impressed! That's a lotalotalot of reading!

Thanks for the encouragements!

Something I did a few weeks back...took me about three days!! Off and on of course. [:D]

There is a lot of wisdom in this thread; be a berean and make sure what is being said lines up with scripture.

Matthew

Interesting read regarding one of the WOF cults' original superstars

I have to agree with the commenter who said, "Evangicoff is now my new favourite word." [8D]

Good article, SamsonUSA. It would be wuite disturbing to see a woman doing that throughout the service. Very strange indeed...

Matthew

What about this?

That is NOT the Holy Spirit. That IS a bad acid trip.

agree...........reminds me of walking through the park in San Fran in the 60's

Not sure if the videos I posted in this thread and or the Todd Bentley/Lakeland Counterfeit Revival thread are still viewable.. but what is at play in many of these instances is demonic in origin.

For anyone versed in the world of the occult and in the kingdom of the cults.. it is eerily disturbing for me, a Christian, to see the absolute similarities in what is done in these so-called church services and what is done in demonic/occultic circles.

My only visual of all this is demons cast out of one revival
to show up in the other pig farms (non-kosher).

No wonder when our doctrines only come from t-shirts, bumper-stickers,
music, sermonettes and not from Scripture.

I pray God's mercy on all those involved in these things that
bring a reproach on the name of our LORD. Truly, God help them.

Okay, so I found this guy and am not quite sure if he is on the up-and-up, but this is kinda cool what he has to say about the WoFer's.

YOUTUBE

I'm going to look into him some more...Anyone ever heard of this guy..?

Matthew

ironsharpensiron -> RE: Word of Faith / Prosperity - One Stop Thread (6/10/2009 12:49:34 AM)

So then I find this guy named Tony Smith who is fired up from this Pastor Manning guy...his response is HERE.

"like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives..." [8|]

Anyone heard of either one of these fellows..?

Matthew

I've seen quite a few of Manning's videos. He's no better (maybe even worse) than those he speaks against. Watch a few more if his videos. He's pretty much a nut. His speaking against other false teachers doesn't make his message truth. The pastor of the church I attended in college used to say "People aren't stupid. You have to tell a certain amount of the truth in order to sell a lie". That's Manning's style. He tells some truths, but his overall message is totally off. He's kind of scary and that church (I've done research) borders on being a cult.

Bro_Shane -> RE: Word of Faith / Prosperity - One Stop Thread (6/10/2009 9:25:11 AM)

Yes, he's pretty much a nut, just in the opposite direction.

That 'Interpretation" of Scripture is probably the worst I have ever heard. He even greatly misquotes Scripture to back his invalid point; sad.

For this character to declare that all members of the Assemblies of God and mnay of the other groups he mentioned are going to hell is just plain asinine.

He is very close to blashpheming the Holy Spirit with his statements.

Thanks
RC

rcjames -> RE: Word of Faith / Prosperity - One Stop Thread (6/10/2009 10:24:58 AM)

If you go to his website HERE you will find that he is carrying on the "Mantle" of Herbert w. Armstrong and the World Wide Church of God.

Just another cult.

Thanks
RC

ironsharpensiron -> RE: Word of Faith / Prosperity - One Stop Thread (6/10/2009 2:32:20 PM)

Yes. After I posted Manning's first clip I went through and watched some more of his fluff. What a sad, yet funny man. He has some pretty outlandish ideals going on.

Good for a laugh late night anyway...

I just feel for his congregation; especially the kids that have to stand behind him throughout the whole service ~~ yes, they look excited...

Matthew

Exactly!

Lapidoth -> RE: Word of Faith / Prosperity - One Stop Thread (6/11/2009 11:03:51 AM)

Heaven is sure going to be a lonely place for all those
who think "everyone else is wrong and I alone am right."

Thank You Lord it's by the Blood of the Lamb of God that
cleanses me of sin and allows me to share in the "righteousness
of God IN Christ."

Ex-Assemblies of God, but still the same person...............lol.

My favorite church attender here was a "hard-shell baptist"
when he came and was just a "Christian" when he left.

God Bless all those who enter the Kingdom by faith.

Forgive me for missing the point, because I don't disagree with what you said, but could you explain?

Thanks

crankius -> RE: Word of Faith / Prosperity - One Stop Thread (6/12/2009 1:11:19 PM)

Does anyone have any advice for how to discuss with those who are immersed in WOF teachings?

I'm especially interested in hearing from any posters who have previously walked out of WOF teachings.

What was most helpful for you in getting out?
Did you read the Word, read a book, or did someone talk with you?
What kind of discussions were helpful, and what kind of discussions didn't help at all?

Bro_Shane -> RE: Word of Faith / Prosperity - One Stop Thread (6/12/2009 3:12:07 PM)

I did not come from WOF, but I have spoken to many and and have some in my family. I have found the best thing to do, if possible, is to sit down with them and go over the scriptures they use. I ask them why the verses around the verse(s) they are using don't fit with what they are saying, mostly. Context kills 99.999% of their stance. It is then up to them to do whatever they will with it.

If the discussion becomes heated I back off or drop it.

And a lot of prayer.

That was almost exactly what I was going to say. I am glad I saw you said it before I said it myself.

I agree with Shane.
