I work nights. Getting to church often is a difficult task.

For more than a year I went to midweek services which started at 6:00 pm...which to me was like 6 am. Plus, knowing I would have to "get up early" would make my sleep more difficult so often I went to church with a few house sleep, and then to work.

I did it for my kids because that was when the kids groups met. Coming home one night, I was parked first at a light...when an accident happened in front of us and the lady got out of her truck and left it in gear...so it came and scraped my truck.

I had too little sleep with little time to get ready for work...so I left the scene.

That...was the last time I went to midweek service except vacations. It wasn't worth the sacrifice, lack of sleep and stress.

Church worship is evil. Its not about a building...and iof a pastor wants it to be, he should step down. Yes, we are called to meet together and we absolutely should, but that doesn't mean the meeting place is special.

I was saved in a church worship situation and never will be in one again. My Lord is Jesus, not a building.

Just read your opening post maddog and it was great. And so true. How say that we need to be reminded of this over and over again, but we do. Even when we think we are loving and not judging, if we're truthful with ourselfs there are times we do judge without even thinking about it.

Thanks for the reminder!

Personally, I'm too busy keeping myself straightened out to watch and judge what someone else is or isn't doing.

I used to have terrible imaginations of what my boss (who is also my pastor) was thinking about me when I'd do something that I thought was stupid at work, until one day I had a revelation that I felt was from the Lord... and that was this: "He's not thinking about you. With all he has to do, you are likely rarely on his mind!" Boy, talk about deflating some reverse pride in a hurry!

Frankly, I believe the majority of the time we think someone is thinking something, either negative or positive about us, they're not!!

And there was a woman who, everytime they had a testimony time, said that she was very happy she had not missed a sunday morning, sunday evening and midweek service in over 45 years.
Never missed a single service.
That was her whole testimony.

Too sad.
I was thinking about this last night. A thought came to mind. Other than warm a pew for 45 years, what did she do? What did she accomplish? This is just my humble opinion, but I'd rather see a church member that's active (regardless of attendance) than one that is there every service but doesn't actually DO anything.

This is why my pastor on midweek let out at 8:30 or earlier. The reason is kids have to get to school and there is a school on the premises as well.

IMO it really comes down to consideration. Pastors need to be considerate of the fact that churchgoers have a life outside of the church, and church members need to remember that when nobody's there it can be disconcerting to a pastor. That's the reason (once again my opinion) that a lot of pastors push the issue of being in church.

I also kinda think what we do for the Lord is between Him....and us.

I was helping the food pantry and one time we had a table with information set up outside the church. Well....that to me was disturbing. Not only was the lady working with me very forceful to try to get volunteers for the food pantry, I felt like I was on display like...

look at me and what I do for God.

I won't do that again.

I read some say not to have a midweek service, what if you can't come to church on Sundays; And Wednesday is the only day you can attend.

I think Jesus accepts all and knows every situation. I think we should be open minded when it comes to judging and opening our mouths. I judge and Jesus shows me how ignorant I am. Even with making a comment, not everyone is going to have the same opinion as you. Like when you say great post or nice comment not everyone believes that. Then when you step up on some toes with your comment, because it was close minded in the reverse sense. For example when someone makes a comment and you think it is good, but then someone who has seen or heard from a different perpective knows it is wrong. Our opinions are biased because of the things we face, and the situations we have been in, but someone who has been in different situation knows that it is different.

What about people that are away from there family's for months, how do there family's stay together? They are apart for work or whatever the reason may be. Like a chaplain in the Army who is deployed, serving God in a foreign country, his family is being held together by The Almighty God, because God has called him to seperate. A Wednesday night service is going to affect a family?

I heard a Pastor say his parents forced him to church everytime the doors opened. It stopped him from making bad decisions. He would sit there in that pew and listen to people that had screwed up with bad decisions. He said it scared him so bad that he didnt want to REBEL against God. Ed Young is his name. Then on the other end you have some kids that there parents make them go to church and they rebel; Billy Graham's son.

Can't put God in a box with a certain schedule or way. We have to be open minded that everyone is not like you and we are not like everyone else. Jesus made us all unique and we each have different situations that affect us from being the same; that is what is great about life. Who cares what they say if you are leaving Church early; Leave it in God's hands and he will show them. I use to judege when People would get up and leave and God would show me how close minded I am. We were all made to sin.

Jesus is awesome

Words have the power to bless or the power to curse. Words have the power to encourage or the power to bring people down. People have a tendency to speak up without thinking too much about why they are speaking. Most of the time, it's judgment that comes out of people's lips. I experience that in these forums often.

What people lack is sensitivity when it comes to communication. I tend to ask people question, just to know how I'm going to talk to them. If they're going through tough time, I'll encourage, but if they're going through good times, I'll rejoice with them. If life is just normal, then, we can engage in normal chitchat. Without having that knowledge, I tend not to talk as I don't know if my words will encourage or hurt. As I often hear from one of my favourite apologist, Christianity is offensive enough; us as Christians should not make it more offensive by acting ignorant towards other people.
