I am not as surprised as the rest of you. I saw this one coming. I wish Jason all the best.

How, pray tell, did you see it coming? Certainly not in a diminished enthusiasm in Jason!

Donna, I don't want to speak for someone else but my daughter and I had talked about something like this a while back. We left a concert and said 'do you think one of them is leaving (Rodney or Jason)?' and I told her 'maybe it does have that feel doesn't it?' Now they had sung beautifully, the guys had given 100% and more, I'd enjoyed talking with them but something there had a 'feel' that I can't explain. I've been around this business for over 30 years and there are times I get a 'feeling' about something about to happen or someone about to leave. It isn't that they don't give 100% or that they seem to enjoy what they are doing less. I can't explain it to someone that has never had it happen.

I understand. I always thought it would be Rodney that would leave and become a preacher!!! (oh, did I say that out loud????? )

Not at all. When you have been around Southern Gospel as long as I have you know the only constant is change. One day your favorite artist is on top and the next they are announcing their disbandment (I have been through that several times).

It mentioned in the press release that he has been dealing with this for a year. That has got to take a toll on you when there is such a tough decision to make. Again, I wish him the best and if he is following God's direction for his life then I applaud him being able to step away.

I see. It's just that I am very biased and thought change should only happen to those other groups! Not my fave!!!!

DeeAnn,
That was my initial thought to. The last several times I have seen them in concert it just seemed 'different' (not in a bad way).

Let's see, I was taken to my first concert at the age of 4. Every year following we began attending more concerts. As a kid I got to meet a lot of great Southern Gospel artists, the most influential being the late Jim Hamill. I have continously followed Southern Gospel since my childhood through the '80s, into the '90s and today.

So, the answer to your question is 28 years (yeah, if you do the math I am 32). I know there are many that have followed this music a lot longer than I have. I am thankful for all the wonderful memories that I have growing up around this music.

For some reason I always thought Aaron Hise of the Whisnants would fit perfectly with the group. His voice sounds somewhat like Jason's, and he definitely has the "look" that fits with GV.

I hate to see him go, but what is wrong with Jason wanting to seek a "Greater Vision" for the Glory of God?

Jason will be missed, he is such a sweetheart but I'm so glad he is following the Lord's will!!! And I can't wait to see what God has in store for Gerald and the guys! I'm sure it is something special.

Memo to self- get to see GV as much as possible before Jason leaves. AND try to keep time clear to check out the first time the new group is nearby!!!!

I can see where you are coming from with this. Aaron has a great tenor voice that would fit well with GV. And he definitely does have the clean cut look that GV has always portrayed, but I just can't imagine The Whisnants w/o him. They blend so well and I would miss him dearly in that group.I mean i'm sure the time will come when Austin Whisnant will take on the role Aaron has now, but I don't really want that to happen just yet. I wouldn't be upset either way though. Aaron is an asset to whomever he is with!! I do think if he were to join GV it could give him the proper recognition he deserves!!

I think Aaron should stick to singing Lead with the Whisnants (He is considered their lead singer, not their tenor).........

But he can easily sing into the range that Jason did without breaking a sweat. ...not to say he should necessarily join GV, just making an observation.

No Aaron is not considered tenor; but he is able to sing in that range easily; if it were to happen it would be beneficial to both GV and Aaron....but then again they may not even have him in the pool of possible candidates for the position; in that case Aaron will continue to do an incredible job as lead for one of my personal favorite groups, The Whisnants!

I'm not arguing...... I'm throwing out opinions too.

IMO, Greater Vision should look for someone with a higher register to compliment Gerald's powerhouse voice and range instead of keeping him down at the low baritone. Don't get me wrong, Greater Vision is one of my favorite groups, but to me, Gerald wasn't as fully unleashed vocally with Jason as he was with Chris Allman.......but maybe they are more comfortable with the lower keyed songs.

Whoever they pick, Jason's shoes are going to be tough to fill.........(and I will certainly miss hearing him sing!)

They are one of my favorite groups as well.......I can't wait to see them in a couple of weeks in Asheville, NC on April 19 or 20.

So exactly why is Gerald singing baritone instead of Rodney?
