I haven't talked to her about it yet, but you are right Donna, we should do something that evening or sometime. They do an after prom thing here, and I need to ask her if she's interested in going to that. If she does that she can stay home and sleep until after-prom starts.

I hate this. They've been together almost 1.5 years. I'm not surprised how this is turning out, but the timing was a bit unexpected. Last night I had the opportunity to sit down and ask her how she really felt about that relationship in a non-threatening way. So here we are.

She hasn't talked to him yet. I don't see that going well. I just want her to do the right thing.

Well school is cancelled today due to the fog. And of course about 20 minutes after they cancelled the fog lifted.

But Ty is STILL having play practice at 3 PM. The director called all the kids this morning as soon as she knew school was cancelled and let them know that play practice was STILL on unless she calls and has to cancel. She has to get final approval from the superintendent. BUT there is NO scouts tonight! REALLY NICE!

On another note - lots of parents must have thought $60 non-refundable was too much to pay for the King's Island trip - + the cost of food and whatever for their kids. It was cancelled due to lack of interest. More likely cancelled due to to many parents thinking it was WAY to much to pay for a field trip. Come to think about it - their field trip to Chicago in 6th grade didn't cost nearly that much!

Blessings,

Garsy

Good morning!

Dee, I was just going to suggest the post prom party. Mike had a lot of fun at his. I hope E isn't too disappointed that she is missing prom, though if she hasn't talked to him yet I'd not be in a hurry to take back the dress. He might make her change her mind.

Well, yeah!

Tracy, how are things now? did you find out Jake's grades?

Duct tape anyone

My daughter has duct tape wallets, made roses out of it and I don't know what all. Her cousin went to prom one year with a duct tape dress. I didn't see pictures though but I heard about it.

How's it been going Kim?

Dee, I thought I'd share this, don't know if it will help.

I missed my prom. My then boyfriend told me he didn't want to go and told me to ask someone else. Of course, doing that would have made me feel guilty. As it turned out, I worked for another friend and co-worker to attend the prom and she worked for me to go on the Senior trip (a one-day event). There is a part of me that missed it, but another part of me that was glad I didn't go. I got together with another girl who didn't go, as well as some other girl friends (juniors weren't able to attend) and we went out to eat and a late movie after I got off work at 9:00 that night. We had a lot of fun. I had some friends come by my work and show off their prom duds, too. One friend even got me a copy of the prom program.

Thanks Debilyn. That sounds like it worked out for you. Your post made me remember a homeschooled friend that E could have maybe done something with but....

Kath gets the prize! She's decided she still likes K, so we are back to plan A. They did talk (computer chat), so hopefully they had a good talk. I haven't talked to her too much.

Sorry for all the drama....

I'm sure that's a relief about the trip Garsy. Are they planning something more affordable cost-wise?

We don't really even do field trips in middle school. Well, they do have a World's of Fun trip for everyone who does well enough on the state assessments; I hope no one gets left out. But we only pay $13 plus meals. And the social studies teacher took several different groups of kids on trips around Kansas on Saturdays. K went Saturday. That was just the cost of a meal too. Last year they had a skating party.

K's trip Saturday was to almost the western border of the state. They saw a museum, a church, and a ranch. It was a lot of driving for one day. It sounds like it went okay though.

Michelle, how are your kids tonight? Better? I'm sure everyone is glad the testing is behind them. When do they find out how they did?

Star testing is this week. Liz tried to get out of going to school today. I told her that I that nothing short of a death certificate would get her out of school this week.

I used to think there wouldn't be too much drama around here, since we only have one girl and three boys (so far...don't know which "team" this next one will fall on). But it seems my boys come up with enough drama of their own.

I'm counting on my next girl not causing me as much drama. Hmmmm. She's the 13yo who missed supper tonight because the 4yo was sitting in her spot and we didn't ask her to move. Let me have my little fantasy, OK?

I know I'm in for it with my now 4yo.

E's boyfriend creates enough drama for several girls, I think.

Sigh...

Not saving Aryn tomorrow. She forgot to bring her Social Studies book home over the weekend and couldn't locate anyone in our area with one she could borrow so now she couldn't complete an assignment. Well it was actually just that they took a test last week that the majority of the class did really bad on so the teacher gave the kids an opportunity to find the RIGHT answers and write out those answers and a few other details from their book. But Aryn forgot her book. I saved her once last week and she didn't complete the job I asked her to do (deep clean of her room which was/is a disaster) so I'm not saving her, she will just have to finish it when she gets to school in the morning.

She told me all this yesterday but was begging again today that I take her in early. It is so NOT going to happen.

From what I hear they are not going to be doing any other sort of trip. I'm fine with that tho. They've got lots of special 8th grade events coming up throughout the month of May.

Blessings,

Garsy

She's a teen, it goes with the territory.

You've got that right Kath!

I don't blame you either Garsy. She'll be more apt to remember next time.

Donna, my kids are E, a 17yo girl; K, a 13yo girl; N, a 10yo boy; and R, a 4yo girl. So I've got a few more drama filled years.

Tonight N and R were playing pirates together for a little while. I wish I could bottle those moments. So sweet.

My two oldest girls got to bed kind of late tonight. E was doing homework, then put laundry away. It was after ten but K was still reading so the light was still on. I hope they can get up in the morning. I should have probably checked on N too to make sure he turned his light out. He kept picking up his book when he was supposed to be getting ready for bed, so I wonder if he finished it.

I hope it all works out, Dee.

While drama and girls do tend to go together, I can say that boys have theirs, too. B has a big drama every so often, not as often as the girls, but it's still a big deal when it happens. He tells me about his friends dramas, too. The other night we were talking about friends to invite to a birthday party. As he went down his list it was "he has issues," "he might be okay," "he's my friend, but ...." It was kind of comical in a way.

S's friends, on the other hand, have dramas every day - catty girls and whiny girls - but she'd invite most of them to a party in a heartbeat.

It's fun to watch the differences in personality come out in the kids.

Garsy, I wouldn't bail her out either, especially if you just did a little bit ago. Sometimes they need to feel it a little before they learn (said by one who has often needed to be smacked with a 2x4 before she learns...).

Dee, I love when the older kids play so nicely with the little ones. Or even just the little ones, without screeching and running to Mom! Hannah and Levi played with her dollhouse for an HOUR last night...with farm animals, not dolls. They bicker so much (well, as much as a 14 month old can bicker ) that it's nice to just sit and watch them play nice. Gives me hope and strength for the days they want to tear each other's limbs off.

We're picking Noah up early today and going to the dentist, then zoo, then Walmart. The dentist is an hour away and the zoo is right around the corner, then Walmart kinda sorta on the way home, saving me another 30 minute one way trip there later in the week. We're members at the zoo, so no cost there. Oh, and Levi will be with my BIL and nephew, so it'll be a nice trip not having to fight to keep him in the stroller or walk at a snail's pace.

Yay for a day off, Julia! Whatever will you do with yourself?

I have a question about Ritalin and taking "vacations" from it. Do any of your kids take it?

Fantasy time...I am on vacation at a warm beach...sunbathing and reading a novel.

Enjoy your day at the zoo!!! I miss those days (we had a membership to the local zoo when our were little).

Enjoy the day off Julia!

Those don't happen around here much anymore.

Donna - No experience with the ritalin - EXCEPT that a stranger suggested Ethan be on it one time while we were at the Zoo of all places. Well what they actually said was "that child must be off his ritalin" to which I just couldn't come back with a snappy comment. Ethan was just happy and excited and 4 at the time. 4 year olds are going to get excited and hyper from time to time.

Anyway - Your ritalin comment coupled with the zoo thing just triggered that memory for me.

We have Ty's play tonight - which should be fun. But that's only after 2 girl scout meetings. Thankfully Brian has taken the day off from work so Ethan can come home after school and then can come in later with his dad for the play. I'm headed to the play with the girls right after girl scouts.

We are also planning a Zoo trip after Ethan's soccer game on Saturday. We love our Zoo!

Say some prayers my friends. There's talk of another bout of layoffs where Brian works. They are hiring back 20 people who took voluntary layoff last fall so they may have to layoff a bunch again. He doesn't think he's going to make the cut this time.

Blessings,

Garsy

OK

I have postponded the dental work too long and look awful. And, we have changed insurance so I seem to be back to square one.

And, folks, I have to say, I am so mad at my hubby. He knows about my irrational fear. He sat there and watched me bawl my eyes out when they did X-RAYS! The dentist called the house to go over the coverage / procedure last year and left a message and Poppa NEVER CALLED BACK! I know it is my problem. I know I should be stronger than this but this morning, as he was ready to cry because I was upset and in pain I just looked at him and thought "you let this happen because you don't like talking on the phone!" It makes me so mad. So, I am sitting at work, calling insurance companies and dentists and bawling again and again. I have chipmunk cheeks and my big boss from Texas will be in soon and I'm red-eyed and he is sending me emails of names without phone numbers as 'possible' dentists.

I'm sorry you are having dental difficulties MBee. I have dental issues myself. Edit: I just mean I don't like dentists.

Hi Julia, we need to mow too.

Garsy, will be praying. Hubby's work has them down to 36 hours a week right now. I know that's not much difference, but it still messes with an already tight budget. They don't generally do layoffs there. Just cut hours.

Donna, no one on Ritalin here.

Debilyn, that's great that S would include most despite the drama.

I don't hear about drama much from my middle daughter. I know it's there, but she seems able to not let it bother her too much.
