Let me get this straight: the oil companies pay 30 billion in taxes, and we are suffering as a nation with a deficit we can't pay? How many oil comps do we have paying that much and yet we have to cut federal programs for those who really can't even afford to pay taxes??????[8|]

You might as well go on strike to make the sun rise in the west.....

You keep trotting this sentence out, but it does not matter one bit. The tax rate is the same. The more they make, the more they pay. If you make more, you pay more. That is how it works.

The truckers need help and they are the lifeblood of this nation. If something is not done soon, we will see some go out of business and empty store shelves. A lot of things depend on the trucking industry.

That's true, but the solution is not going to be found in striking against gas prices.

Does anyone really think that having the oil companies pay higher taxes is going to help the consumer? Does anyone think that leaving the oil companies to determine their profit margin so that the tax rate can be determined will accomplish anything? All the execs have to do is see what the profit margin "might be" then give themselves a big bonus and thereby miss paying the big tax. Also, all they have to do is raise the price of gas to cover their "taxes" and raising the price of gas means we are paying for those taxes.
The answer is simple: drill in your own country, uild your own refineries, reduce the dependance on foreign entities, and through research develop new means of energy (then again maybe it isn't so simple).

I am a “trucker”. Company driver now. Used to be owner-operator years ago.

News flash for most Americans with their heads deeeeep in the sand:

Fuel prices are not going up! Oil prices are not going up! US$ is going down and FAST. 60% down in the last seven-eight years 40% of that in the last four years. US$ is no longer mandatory currency of oil exchange. Large oil producers like Russia and Iran got out of US$. More to follow soon. This is why all worldwide commodities are “going up”. Strike or not.... makes absolutely no difference.

While that is true to a point, the increases of late are a much larger percentage. They far outstrip the falling dollar.

THUS, the more oil/gas they sell, guess what goes up?....of course their profits (in dollars) are going to be higher....especially as demand for oil in many parts of the world has surged....

same principle.

I was not disputing that. I was arguing against a reduction in taxation.
