kohls356 -> Anyone have a child graduating this year? (4/12/2008 1:18:29 PM)

My oldest is graduating in exactly 6 weeks. I am trying to figure out what to do for her. I am thinking of a barbeque and will mostly just be family.

I also am wondering what to give her. We were going to buy her a laptop but I don't think we need to anymore. Her grandmother just passed away a few weeks ago and had a laptop that was only a few months old. I would like to get her nice piece of jewelry maybe, and of course I know she would like some cash.

Does anyone else have a child graduating and what are you doing for them?

I have one graduating 8th grade this year! Does that count?

He got a laptop for his birthday (dad's old one after we got it fixed) but that's a GREAT gift!

He's not getting much for this graduation - He's getting a garden gnome. Yep a garden gnome. He's got this thing for gnomes so it's been kinda a running joke for a LONG time! He's got other gnome things so it'll just add to his collection. I found a really cute one at WalMart for a really cheap price that has a solar powered panel and a little lantern that lights up in the dark!

Blessings,

I do! I was thinking the same thing too!

We're missionaries and so my son homeschools. I thought of a nice gift and had to think about what I got when I graduated from high school. I think you're thinking in the right direction. Something practical or meaningful. A nice bbq party with some of her friends or just family would make her feel celebrated. I had my first stay over party! It was mixed,[sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif] The kids from church came over and we all slept in our clothes on the floor in the family room having fell asleep watching movies all night. We had a picture scavenger hunt. Back 21 years ago, I think I got a total of $83. So, I'm thinking a $100 would be a nice gift for my son. He's planning on buying a new guitar and will probably enjoy the extra cash. I'd thought of buying the guitar but my husband doesn't think it necessary. He bought his own desk top a couple years ago and is still happy with it. He doesn't drive down here, too crazy but he is an asset to our ministry in the music.

We had a party here at the house for him after graduation.

I DO TOO!

My son is graduating! He just got his full drivers license and is driving all over this week too.
Kinda scary!

I think we will be getting him a nice hand held digital camera with video. The ones we are looking at are around $300. He does alot of trick biking and likes to record himself jumping. (He's GOOD!)

funny girl, my son plays guitar too. Hubby suggested a guitar but we had just got him one at Christmas. So thats why we are going the camera route.

I love to hear my son play. He actually taught himself while he was homeschooled a few years ago.

Can't do the computer thing just yet. If he goes away for school we might help him get a used laptop eventually. Right now we are still looking at Air Force/Guard options and Firefighter options hopefully as well.
Our local Guard base is rebuilding and needing Firefighters.

Lots of testing in the upcoming months.

Right now he and 16 yo sis are working at our small town Sonic Drive-in.
Graduation, working, testing, riding his bike, and playing his guitar is all he lives for.

Oh, to be 18.... [:)]

Me too! Dd is graduating 8th grade this year and I think we'll just have a nice fmaily dinner. I may have something small for her and her friends because they will be seperating with most going to different high schools.

I LOVE 8th grade grads!!

This is such a fun time. It is as very important as any other "gradual" celebration. IMO.

Hope you and yours have a great time Stampinlady! What fun!

Does Grad school count? My dd will be graduating for the 2nd year in a row so no plans here. We took a family vacation when she finished her undergrad last year.

We will be taking a family vacation this summer just haven't decided on where yet. We are letting my daughter decide, within reason of course.

Does 5th grade graduation count?? I have one going from elementary school to middle school. We'll attend his moving up ceremony and that's about it.

Of course this counts! Sometimes this is a bigger change then going from middle to highschool! I'm planning big celebration for my dd when she graduates 5th grade next year! It may just be a weekend trip for the two of us but it will be very special!

Blessings,

Garsy
