quote:
I can imagine! Some of the stuff isn't really making sense. LOL. In some of the instances where "stuff isn't really making sense", the reason could be because some of the words don't mean what you think they mean. The English language has changed a lot in 400 years. If you are going to read and study only the KJV, perhaps you should invest in a dictionary that not only tells you what words mean today, but also traces the meanings of that word throughout history so that you can understand what the KJV translators were thinking in the early 1600s. Or you can read and study your NKJV. It really is a very good translation, just as excellent as the KJV. And, there is no reason to be afraid of using other modern translations. They are also excellent. They are the word of God. We are not supposed to get into the KJVO debate in any thread, except the specific thread created for the KJVO discussion. And, I am not trying to get into it here, but I just want to say that a very important fact to understand about Bible versions is the fact that when God guided His servants in writing His word in the New Testament, He led the writers to quote both the Hebrew Old Testament and the ancient Greek translation of the Old Testament, which appears to have been translated from a slightly different version than the version that we know today. So, it is not wrong to study God's word in the different versions He has made available to us today. And, it also would not be a bad thing if you used several different study Bibles and/or commentaries. But, even if you use only one, study the passage for yourself, thoroughly before you read the study notes. Look up the cross references, look for parallel passages, research the history and context of the passage, etc. Then check the study notes and even use the online Bible study tools to check the commentaries found there. Most importantly, spend time in prayer before, during, and after your study, asking for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in teaching you and helping you to understand God's word.
