I think I misworded the private part issue.. I think I mean more like.. at what point do kids realize private parts are sexual? A toddler just knows they make milk. But at 8 wouldn't they know something a bit more? Ahhh...yes, that is a different question. Well, since I have an 8 year old ...he knows they are private parts, but I don't think he views them as sexual. He doesn't know they play a part in a husband and wife's marital activities, nor does he know what goes on in detail. He can watch me nurse a baby and not think twice about it, even if I am exposed. But if he walked in on my getting dressed somehow, he would probably blush and turn around and leave. So he does get that they are private, but when I'm nursing...that makes a difference, if that makes sense? Nicolas (7), OTOH, has been exposed to porn and watches R rated movies on a regular basis. To him, they are very sexual and I have to be very careful to be completely covered when he is around. When Levi was born, we actually had to make a rule that he was not allowed to look at the baby while he was eating. So that is the difference in how they have been raised and what kind of things they are exposed to. Hannah has no concept of them being sexual at all. She still remembers having "milky" and still asks for it occasionally. She is excited about watching the new baby nurse when he or she is born, and I will let her.

ORIGINAL: Sideways I think back then I was nursing 6 times a day or more, so that sounds about right, but he was eating waaaayyy more then just a teaspoon of solids per food group. I'd mix a large jar of applesauce with baby oatmeal and that was one of his meals; I think he was getting 3 or 4 of those size meals a day by then. Times I have nursed today? Zero. For the first time in over 15 months. Obviously I'm not ready to called him weaned yet, but I'm still ready to dance the jitterbug. Yeah, I know that sounds awful, but I'm proud of myself, and more then ready for a break in nursing. There's still plenty of challenges yet ahead, but I feel good about what I've done, and I think we're both ok with stopping now. Why should you feel that it sounds awful? You need a break from nursing before the next one gets here.....and he seems to be okay with that (weaning seems to have gone pretty easy without a lot of fight)....you did great. You did your best to feed him....and you did well. 15 months is a good amount of time....

You're doing the right thing, Prudent. At this point she doesn't need milk, and she's getting plenty of love and affection from her wonderful parents. Sounds like it's just a manipulation game at this point.

I agree. Don't give in even once unless you are okay with her continuing. BUT...do make sure you replace that snuggle time with something non-teetee related. I replaced feedings with reading books in the beginning.

Nathan has not shown a desire to nurse in the last few days, but if he sees me changing, he will react tot he sight of my breasts. He wants to push or pull on them. Like they are toys.

Ruth, I think BF babies just have a 'relationship' with breasts for a long time. Reagan often 'holds' one of mine when I pick her up. I don't think she realizes what she's doing, she just puts her hand squarely on the breast. I move her hand and don't make a big deal of it. I had a preschooler who did that to me (a girl)..and I told my director about it (thinking it was something to worry about it), and she said it was probably no big deal..just was probably breast fed long enough to remember it, and we were kinda like "mommies," to the kids so she was just putting two and two together.

Ah, I'm so sorry Maggie. And here I thought I was having a rotten day! Can you call your mum? Hopefully your man will be home soon.

ORIGINAL: 3cappuccinosmom Ughh. Ladies, I am soooo sick today. Mastitis. Does anyone know if it's possible for something like that to "simmer" a few days? I have just been inexplicably tired and crabby all this week, and then last night I woke up feverish and in pain. I'm doing everything I need to do, but man, I hate this. And dh is at work, so the kids are pretty much on their own. I let them get toys and books out in the living room and collapsed on the couch. the first time I had it it was like that....just not very productive for a few days, then BAM...the pain and other things hit all at once. I hope you feel better soon.

Yuck, Maggie! I hope you're better soon! Are you on antibiotics or just trying to deal with it on your own? Levi still likes to stick his arm down my shirt when he's snuggling. He hasn't nursed in 5 months.

That's really nice, Maggie, that you have your parents for medical advice and support. They sounds like great people.

I did call my parents. Didn't want to take antibiotics just yet, but wanted to know if they had any advice. My dad suggested cabbage leaves. Knowing my mom, she will probably bring some antibiotics with her today "just in case" I need them. if I were you I would start the probiotics too if you haven't already
