Kristin, I am also confused. I would not worry, but I would call back and find out how dilated and effaced you are. You could just be one of those women whose body starts early. There are those whose cervix soften up early and are partially dilated for weeks, and there are those whose cervix are high, hard, and closed right up until labor begins. Once you get to 34 weeks, the risk of preemie problems decreases significantly anyway, and then 37 is considered full term. My sickie baby who was sent to the NICU was almost 41 weeks, so even full term is no guarantee. God knows the day your baby will be born. Trust Him. EP, I agree with Sarah...to a point. The kick count is recommended for a reason, but you also have to know what is normal for your baby. If you have never gotten a regular kick count, I'd not worry. But if you have in the past or your Momma instinct has you concerned, then ask for a BPP ultrasound...that's a biophysical profile ultrasound and they'll look for some specific things to see how baby is doing...it measures movement, increases in heart rate with movement (nonstress test), muscle tone, breathing rate, and the amount of amniotic fluid. So don't worry, but OTOH, don't ignore your instinct if you feel something is wrong.

Lily, you are so close! They may want to monitor you for a while to check on the baby, but if it doesn't go higher, they will probably wait. All depends on your doctor, of course.

The deal with hbp is that it can turn into pre-e, or full eclampsia literally over night. At 38 weeks they will probably just monitor it, do NST's and if it keeps rising they probably won't let you go over 40 weeks. No biggie really, at this point.

ORIGINAL: lilyofthefield Thanks, Donna. I wonder what they would consider too high? Like you said, it probably depends on the doctor. Maybe I can have dh check it a few times at home before Thursday in case I get performance anxiety on Thurs. just because I'm there. That's no way to help blood pressure - you'd better have low blood pressure on Thursday or else! (okay, they didn't say that... but that's how I feel) The "thinking" is that your bottom number is more indicative of high blood pressure then the top number, which is why they were concerned. The "cut off" for pre-e is 140/90 on more then 3 occasions, so they probably just want to see if it was a fluke or not.

Yeah, I would cut caffeine but NOT salt. Potassium and Calcium are rumored to work, but the Pre-E foundation does not agree, lol.

And drink lots and lots of water. My doctor put me on partial bed rest when my BP spiked at the end last pregnancy. He also said not to go overboard on the salt/sodium, but I didn't need to cut it out completely.

I do try to drink a lot of water, but I may have been slowing down b/c of the constant night time pees. I'll have to watch that. Also, we did have Mexican for dinner last night - it was SOOO good, but was more salt than I usually eat. I guess it is important make sure to get enough sodium, but not TOO much. Okay, lots of water, some sodium, maybe potassium... and skip the coffee and the Mexican before doctor's visits! I think that is the plan.

I am back. To answer questions first, she did both the fundal height which measures me 2 weeks ahead and an internal exam, which said my cervix has really softened and shortened. Her exact words were, I am a little concerned because we have you at 30 weeks, yet your cervix feels like you should be around 36 weeks. It is still closed, but has shortened and softened. The reason she checked me(I guess) was because I told her I have had a lot of pressure lately and my stabbing pains are back in my vagina. Because I was so not expecting to have a "exam" today. It got me all flustered! I need to mentally prepare myself for that!!! She had mentioned another test she was going to get me to take but since I had had sexual relations in 24 hours she said she couldn't do that one... I can't remember the name of it. Any guesses??? So now on to the specialist I went to see. First let me tell you I got a 3D u/s done. Which is a blessing because I was going to look into getting one done, which I knew we couldn't afford. But anyways, the dr. gave me yet another new due date of June 22nd. He said he couldn't figure out how they orginally came up with July 12th. But he said it was up to my dr. to actually change it. We have a really big baby right now, he is in the 86th precentile. His head is measuring 5 weeks ahead, stomach is measuring 2 weeks ahead and he weighs almost 5lbs now. The dr. said if we are going with his due date, my cervix is no big deal, and really not that big of a deal if she keeps the July 12th due date. But that she needs to keep a watch on me and the baby and his growth. I really still don't quite understand the entire cervix thing, but I am trusting in God. I am a little freaked out if I am due 3 weeks sooner than expected....that means I have a lot to do!! I am off to take a nap, today has emotionally worn me out. Thanks for listening ladies. Lily - praying for you... Eygpt - also praying for you, try not to worry. God will take care of you and your little one!!

You might also try to make your appointments in the morning. My BP always seems to be lower first thing in the morning and higher by evening.

Ryanne - that is it, that was the test! Thanks! Donna - we were never sure of my dates, I know I took Clomid the first week in October but after that have no clue, because the dr. said that round didn't make me ovulate so I should look into surgery...so I stopped temping and timing things thinking I would start back up after surgery. Who knows, I will just be going with the flow...

Lily, Usually if they suspect pre-e, they will make you lie down for a while and retest your bp to see if it goes down.

You would be about the same as me if that new date is correct, and my ovulation date is around Oct 3rd.

ORIGINAL: HomeSpunLady Anyone else breaking out? I usually don't have many pimples, but now I'm getting at least one once a week. I'm trying to stay away from sweets, so I don't know if it's hormonal or what. Normally my face breaks out in cycles...along with my cycle. In general, it's been a lot better since pregnant. I still get occasional breakouts, but they're much less than normal. Lily- I'm glad your shower went well! All those diapers will be a huge blessing. And I vote that you can beat the other lady...I bet you can get Caden out in an hour. And for your BP...the 90 is a little high. Probably a good idea just to get it rechecked in a couple of days. Kim- Not many more weeks of belly pictures to take! Kristin- I'm glad things are looking ok. I'm sure you have lots to do, but you might be getting your baby 3 weeks sooner! Egyptian- I was on amoxicillan for a UTI at the beginning of my preg. It's a pregnancy category B, so you're ok. I hope it starts working for you soon. We starting registering yesterday. It was kind of speed-registering, because dh had to meet with some clients so we only had about an hour. It was pretty fun though. I had made a wish-list online going off of reviews, so that helped a lot. We will either need to go back or add a bunch of stuff online. They didn't have the bedding set I want there, which stinks, because I really wanted to see it in person. Half of me wants to just ditch the idea of the bedding set anyway, but I'll probably end up putting on the registry and just see what happens. 19 weeks tomorrow!

Lily - I'm glad that they're watching your BP. Hopefully it was just a fluke! When it comes to pre-e/e, though, it's great that they're watching out for you. Kati - I can't believe you're 19 weeks tomorrow!! And that Kathryn's 20 weeks!! Your pregnancies are flying by!! LOL Kristin - sounds to me like you did ovulate with that round of clomid and that you're a little further along than anticipated! (Fun and yet terrifying!!) Time to pack that bag and get ready for baby!! (BTW, I thought your belly shot that you posted earlier didn't much make sense for your due date ... just had the feeling that you were further along than they thought!) Sherry - sorry to hear about the infection! About the kick-counts, I wouldn't be terribly concerned. Pick a time of day when baby seems most active and use that as your hour - sometimes I go for quite a while without feeling movement and then June Bug won't stop moving for hours ... as long as the baby is moving the same amount he/she always has! Well, Brad and I went through all the stuff we got at my shower - holy cannoli! We've got a tonne of sleepers and onesies ... and bibs coming out of our ears!! LOL We are so blessed! We need a few more things for cloth diapering, but not too much for newborn - I think we're set for those sizes! We took out all the tags and have everything in a rubbermaid container ready to be washed and put away (as soon as I settle on what type of detergent I want to use!). I think one of my favourite gifts is a Clifford (ie. the Big Red Dog) blanket/play mat that's got a dog head and tail!!! It's *the* cutest thing ever and rolls up and velcros into a tube that's got the head at one end and the tail at the other. Must. Take. Picture. We got our co-sleeper on Friday and we're going to be setting it up this week! I've also got to remember to put together the rest of my homebirth kit, since it needs to be done by 36 weeks and that would be a week and a half. People, where is the time going???!?!?? *cough* I've-also-got-to-pack-a-'just-in-case'-hospital-bag-still *cough*
