Just a question to those who think this stuff in Lakeland is real: what lasting good came from Brownsville? Don't get me wrong, I long for an authentic revival, but this just seems to be a show. The stuff about gold teeth gives me the willies. Why gold teeth? Why not restored to their original condidtion?

Hey God just wanted him to be a rap artist. Like Flavour Flav.

Pagan and occult practitioners also claim to receive miraculous healings and signs. What does this tell you other than there is a false power at work in the world that deceives many.

In the occult world receiving something always come with a price, a "penalty".

In contrast "The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it." (Proverbs 10:22)

God doesn't work that way. He doesn't make deals or let you trade anything for His blessing. I'm pointing out the contrast because some may not understand how to approach God with a request in prayer and may be confused as to the nature of God and His works as Simon Magus was (Acts 8:18).

Whether there are false miracles or just false reports, does the sheer amount of hype sound "right" to you? Notice that no one is reporting how many may go away "empty-handed". Is there a solemn assembly of diesel buses carrying the sick saints for healing at this new pool of Siloam? Or wouldn't that be unreasonable--more likely the same old signs-and-wonders seekers are having another pep rally ...having "excitement", having an event in God's name does not mean that he is in it.

I remember during Brownsville's heyday it was supposed to be such a move of God that "even Baptists" were loading up the vans and heading down there. Puh-lease. Getting North Alabama Baptists to go to a day at the beach on the Florida panhandle only takes gas money.

I am sure there are many honest seekers being touched by God. It would be inappropriate to equate every miracle with demonic activity.

People probably are truely getting healed - but it's in spite of this guy and because of their own faith and not because of him. I only pray they stay focused on their faith and not now be led astray by the ranting crazy person who happened to have his name on the sign over the place where God decided to reveal Himself in their life.

No, I'm not attributing every miracle on the planet with demonic activity. I was responding to RatherDashing's question of whether there were other spirits apart from God capable of miracles, signs, and wonders. Biblically, yes there are. The next question up: Is God behind a false prophet and a false teacher. Well, no, He is not, so that puts a bit of a damper on Todd Bentley's 'Florida Revival'. All I'm seeing from the daily reports are false signs and wonders, such as gold teeth and 'glory orbs', and some very evasive descriptions of healings which have not been substantiated in any way, shape, or form. It's all just words so far.

Yup.

mcleod -> RE: Florida HealingOutpouring-here we go again (5/5/2008 12:19:58 PM)

No I wouldn't have it that every healing process was demonic activity. But it remindes me the Big Valley T.V. show in the sixties where a faith healer would come into town and by passing the plate God was going to heal you.
Remember if this would have been the case. Our Lord and Saviour would have been richer that Bill Gates.

wintery -> RE: Florida HealingOutpouring-here we go again (5/5/2008 12:50:22 PM)

I've had a browser window open to the livestream on Todd's official site for a while. Watching the chat window roll gives an insight into those who are all about this "outpouring".

However, lest ye be deceived --one might think that the world had stopped turning for this in Lakeland--but think again. Todd is scheduled at the Jenkins Arena part of the Lakeland center through Friday 5/9. Other events at this complex are also scheduled.

Tonight-University of South Florida graduations at Youkey Theatre.
Tomorrow night-Led Zeppelin in concert at Youkey Theatre, performing songs from their album "Houses of the holy".

There's a karate tournament scheduled for Jenkins Arena Saturday 8a-6p. I notice they're paying to park. Will they clear out in time for Todd to go another night there or will the meetings move?

I'm pointing these things out because the hype may sound like the world's stopped turning for this, but it has not.

TOUCH YOUR COMPUTER NOW!!!!
THE ANOINTING IS BEING RELEASED RIGHT NOW!!!

Errr...was that "right now" when they posted, or "right now" when I read it?

Todd Bentley:

quote:

God, why is not the power of God moving? He said, 'Because you havn't kicked that woman in the face.'.... He said, 'Kick her in the face, with your biker boot.'...just as my boot made contact with her nose, she fell under the power of God....and we had a revival service.

StephK -> RE: Florida HealingOutpouring-here we go again (5/5/2008 2:50:15 PM)

That's just plain flat CRAZY! [sm=eek.gif]

howling wind -> RE: Florida HealingOutpouring-here we go again (5/5/2008 3:11:04 PM)

I took a look at the update that wintery last posted and was just in tears...from laughter. I'm sorry, but if half of what is being reported is really happening, then the Lakeland Police Department needs to be contacted:

**Kicking a lady in the face with biker boots**

**Todd head-butting a person**

This sounds more like a Black Flag concert I once went to than a "revival."

Also, I like how the writer reports that Todd is taking the focus off of demons and focusing only on Jesus, and then proceeds to talk about nothing but demonic activity.

The lunatics have taken over the asylum...[:(]

For those in the area, are there any articles in the local newspapers about the "healings"? One can't just have healings and miracles at this level without attracting some kind of media attention.

Here's an article at a local paper online(w/photo). No confirmed healing in it.

another
at the same paper, they keep "healing" in quotes.

The last one is from yesterday and is virtually an ad, though it is under "news".

Agreed, there are indeed MANY sincere believers in these circles.. it breaks my heart that this is so.

Yesterday morning my pastor preached on Oprah Winfrey and the occult. It amazes me how many parallels there are between those false/heretical movements and these.

earthless -> RE: Florida HealingOutpouring-here we go again (5/5/2008 4:08:44 PM)

There seems to be a similar thread in the 'Television & Radio' forum.

This quote (and it's thinking) got me:

Hey guys. I just came to this place looking for info. about god tv. I started reading your posts and replies, and I just had to register so I could add a few words. A friend of mine just called me. She has been going nightly to those healing revivals with Bently. She told me that the Lord was moving so strong in that meeting, she could barely stop herself from shaking. Would the anointing and presence be so strong, if these guys were not hitting the mark? I don't think the presence of the Lord would be in a place of a false prophet. Just my spin on this.

All these wonderful healings yet none of them are worth following up on? I'm not surprised.

csl7037 -> RE: Florida HealingOutpouring-here we go again (5/5/2008 4:52:55 PM)

I could be wrong but I didn't see any good ol boys from Lakeland up on that stage last night. That's probably why it's not getting much local attention. Nobody knows who any of those people are.

Are there any other spirits capable of providing healing? People can thrive on emotionalism, yes, but how does emotionalism reflect medical reports of how cancer magically disappeared?

Are there actually documented medical reports of these healings?
And yes emotions can play a big part in healings if the illnesses are psychosomatic.

Does G~d honor the heartfelt prayers of people by healing them in huge hyped up crowds - yes I think He does. He is soverign and what He does is soverign. But I would bet you a nickle to a donut that most of those healings go unnoticed.

Yea many years ago there was a revival that took place in a small college back east. The students were so "revived" spiritually they came out to Los Angeles and shared it with another small college and they became spiritually renewed. It did not make the paper and no one person was credited for the revival. There were indeed healings that happened as a result of this, both physical and spiritual. This was the precurser to the "Jesus Movement" that did become quite the media blitz. But I and many of my friends were either saved or renewed thru this whole revival/ Jesus Movement period.
Then a few years into the revival time some of the "bretheren" who had experienced the Power of G~d became drunk on this power and sad to say took matters in their own hands. Thus we had people at least in the L.A. area going around "healing". It was quite the thing to get your "teeth done". At that time G~d was into filling teeth just like now only He didn't use gold then. [:D] And people were getting their legs lenthened. I guess there were alot of people with one leg shorter than another. And they had those "documented" on TV. Interestingly enough if you sit a certain way and then shift your touchas it looks like one leg grows out. So all of these "healings" are no different than 30+ years ago.
And again I have seen some wonderful miracles of healing in my lifetime that would defy science. G~d still does heal in spectacular ways - but He will NEVER share His glory. This Bentley Dude and all the rest of the gang who need a camera in their face on TBN are skating on very thin ice.

I'll say this once and let everyone else to their busying themselves with slaughtering fellow sheep...

I know that there has been at least one genuine miracle happen at the lakeland revival. My friend's sister has been suffering with a mysterious auto-immune disease that the doctors couldn't diagnose, treat, or cure. It was to the point that her gallbladder had been removed and the disease was beginning to attack her brain. She went to Lakeland and got prayed for. Guess what... she isn't sick any more. Think what you like about Todd Bently, Rick Joyner, Pensacola, Brownsville, Toronto, or whatever... but I know beyond shadow or turning that something positive has happened out there, at least once.

Adam

Some will defend anything and anyone that comes in the "name of Jesus".

Some will cling to anyone who claims to be a prophet or an apostle.

And some will never, ever, say another's teachings are false.

Adam...it would appear that if this situation has been related to you in an accurate manner, your friend's sister would have evidence of her healing (I do remain wary of third-hand reports in general, though). If she does, why doesn't she come forward with it? It would be a great testimony to God's healing power.

I have seen such evidence in other cases, but they didn't happen in the midst of big, glizty "healing outpourings."

Here's an interview with Todd Bentley by Tampa's News Channel 8, includes video of a meeting, runs about four minutes.

The reporter asks Todd, "What is God's purpose, as you see it, in allowing you to do this now?"

Notice when the woman is telling him about a melanoma on her left leg, she says it has been removed and Todd responds, "I _thought_ it was removed!". Yes, stay in control, Todd.

wintery -> RE: Florida HealingOutpouring-here we go again (5/6/2008 10:11:29 AM)

Here's about as thorough, neutral, journalistic article as you'll ever find, from the Tampa Tribune.

Includes quotes from J. Lee Grady of Charisma mag, Hank Hanegraff of CRI, and hints that...Benny Hinn...may have taken an interest in coming to this Florida event.

They report Fresh Fire is paying $15,000 a night for the Lakeland Center venue, according to the center's executive director.
