So, does anyone think that gas prices will ever go down or only rise from here on out? Just curious about what others think. I hope that soon we will see a dip in the price, but other times I feel like we are just going to have to make our gas tank last longer. Just curious though!

They're starting to go down already. Gas prices always go high before Memorial Day, but over time they will rise again. They'll go up again if we get a threat of a hurricane too.

We are selling tons of Cars to India and China that couldn't afford cars before .. it's a supply and demand issue. Plus we haven't built any new refineries in years.. we have enough oil in the U.S, I think

The price of petrol {gas} in the UK is over £5 a gallon which is about $10 how much is the average price in the USA[8D][8D][8D]

Here in Canada, the price is $1.50 per litre.... if my math is correct, that's $5.60/gal in the US, Can money and US money are almost par, so i didn't bother converting the money.

Our gas prices are regulated here in this province, which means they can only change the price once a week. The prices of gas are always high in the summer and then go down a bit in winter, but I think they are going to continue to climb, especially if people keep using it carelessly.

I think they will either go down or we will put the oil companies out of business by buying cars that are not run by gas.

I'm curious to see whether or not people will stop driving everywhere and bike or walk? I have seen more people on bikes around here, but it may be because the weather has been nice.[&:]

It's good to have dreams.

Gas prices aren't going to go down. At least not much. An ever-increasing demand combined with a limited (by the producers) supply will continue to drive prices up. At best they'll stabilize for a while, but the general trend will be towards increased prices at the pump and bigger profits for Big Oil.

That's the East Coast pricing! In Central Canada, it's around $1.20 a litre.

I don't see them going down. I pulled in the other day and the person in front of me put $85 in their SUV. As long as people who can afford to fill up their cars at that price continue to do so, the prices won't go down. The companies don't care if they lose money from someone like me, who puts in $10 at a time.

And I really don't see most people changing their habits any time soon.

Seriously there are so many ways that manufacturers could make everything much less reliable on oil and gas..whether it be hybrid vehicles, wind energy, solar energy, etc... I guess noone has really made the push to make this technology affordable to the masses and they really probably have no desire to make it affordable because we all know there are many people in power who don't want that to happen, for many reasons.

I would. But unfortunately it's not safe--I'd have to walk myself and three small children at least 3 miles one way through an unsafe neighborhood and across several large intersections, on roadsides because there are no sidewalks, to get to the nearest overpriced grocery store. [:@]

I don't think most American cities and suburbs are set up for walking.

I don't think there will be appreciably lower gas prices ever. After gas prices have been high for awhile, dropping them ten cents makes everyone happy--even though ten cents cheaper is still a dollar more than a year ago! (Those aren't real numbers, I'm just making them up as I go along. [8D]) It's conditioning.

It would be nice if more hybrids would be produced and purchased. It would be even nicer if more people would walk or bike. They do make bikes that will hold multiple children and they also make bikes that can haul an awful lot of stuff.

true...but as Maggie pointed out, sidewalks and safe places to ride those bikes does not always exist

Sidewalks are usually not as safe as the road. (In fact, sidewalk riding is banned in some cities.) And I know a guy who commutes to work 23 miles each way. [;)]

Or twenty miles from work. I'd ride every day if I could, but it's just not possible. Most of that ride would be on a two lane road where the average speed is 60mph. With no shoulder, sidewalk, or bike path.

I'd truly walk if I could. I'd walk several miles willingly if it were along a low-traffic road with wide shoulders or sidewalks. If I were by myself, and had a bike, I probably would use that.

But I'm afraid 3 kids and the traffic in our area just don't mix, even if I did have a bike that could haul them all (which would mean *me* hauling about 100 lb--*I* would need a fillup after doing that [8D]). Also, I personally find bikers in the road bothersome and dangerous and I would be much too nervous being the "bothersome" one to bike safely with children in tow.

It's $1.22 here right now. It is supposed to reach $1.50 by the Summer... so they say.

I don't see gas prices ever going down again.

While they do have some options in bikes (reclining, bike trailers, baskets), bikes just aren't set up for families AND groceries. It's an either/or proposition. Most of the carry options (besides the trailer) are also limited to a single bag. I have a saddle bag basket on my bike and I don't think I could fit more than 2 plastic bags or 1 paper bag between the two sides.

What I would like to see is more options in family cars (6+ passengers). It doesn't look like anything is being developed for larger families in terms of electric/hybrid cars or even better gas mileage. I'm not looking for a huge engine or great pick up. I'd really like some better options.

Me too! BUT there are ways that many folks are already cutting the miles they travel or trips they have to make. For us, I don't go anywhere without making multiple stops. Just last week I had to take the kids to the dentist, since the dentist is in the same neighborhood as the bookstore and the pet store we made a couple extra stops after the dentist, and then on the way home stopped at the library AND the grocery store. IF we need to go to Walmart, Lowe's or want to go to the zoo, we save it for Sunday's after church since they are all in the same neighborhood. I don't go anywhere during the day unless I absolutely have to. I've cut my volunteer time at school to only 1 or 2 days a week - down from 3 earlier this school year. I also try to schedule appointments back to back if I can. I scheduled my dd's and ds's dental visits, an orthodontist appt. AND my mammogram for the same day in June. And we'll likely pack a picnic lunch and go to the Zoo after it's all done!

We need to work more on figuring out carpooling arrangements for activities and such and be willing to help our neighbors out. We've taken to asking our neighbors, should we be heading to the store, if they need anything - because since we are going anyway let's save them a trip. They've been doing the same for us.

Then instead of going out all the time - it's time for people to realize that you don't have to go out or away from home to have a good time!

Oops, it's not $1.50, it's 1.2-something...but supposed to be 1.50 by the summer time.

sorry, got confused there for a minute.

I do like the regulated gas pricing though.

I also forgot to mention that my dd's 4th grade teacher has been biking to and from school pretty much 3 or 4 days a week - if the weather is cooperating and others have been carpooling. We have a couple teachers whose husbands work at the high school. They meet up each morning and evening at a central location half way between the two schools and the men carpool up to the highschool in one car and the ladies come down to the elementary. That way they don't have to take 4 cars, AND the couples are getting to spend more time together. Granted it means the elementary teachers are at school nearly 1 1/2 hours early, and the men have to wait a little bit at the end of the day, but they make it work. My dd's 4th grade teacher has to bike 45 minutes to an hour each morning and evening - depending upon traffic and until the full length of our communities trail system is finished - most of his ride is on main roads and busy streets. Saw him riding last week and was very pleased to see him wearing his helmet!!

Our gas hit $2.69 a week ago but it's down to $2.55 now. I currently have enough points at the grocery store to save $.30/gallon on my next fillup but I still have over half a tank so I will wait a little longer to fill up.

Yes, I'm sorry 3.69 and 3.55 I only look at the cents anymore so I didn't even realize what I wrote.
