Some women are less typically feminine because of the way they were raised. I have 3 older brothers who I followed around and played with and received hand me down clothes from. I am the youngest and the only girl. I cried when I had to wear a dress to school in kindergarten. After all I could climb on the monkey bars and play like I was used to. My husband and I figured out that we played with the same kind of Tonka dump truck. We both loved ours. Some of you will remember the old red and yellow one! After moving in with my aunt and uncle, my aunt would say, "You'll be a young lady if it kills you." I am glad for the manners she taught me; they are a top notch life skill. We also had a large wooded area for us kids in the neighborhood to play in. So I climbed trees, play football and kickball, learned baseball, etc. because that's what we did. I also sat and talked with girlfriends, went to slumber parties, etc. with my girlfriends. I don't see myself as unfeminine.
My husband is masculine, but a lot more like his mother than his father. He reads cookbook, has her gentleness, her intelligence, her math skills, etc. He has aimed for job satisfaction and family time in his life. He often prefers the company of women. He gets tired of the expectation that his sole interest outside work is sports. He has helped me sow or taken over a sewing job for me. He cooks, cleans and is involved with little kids at church. He was better at playing with my daughter than I was. None of this comes across to me as feminine. This is just the kind of man he is.
