set_apart -> what to do with a dozen eggs? (5/16/2008 12:21:00 PM)

I have a dozen eggs which are expiring soon (like tomorrow!). What should I do with them? I was thinking about an angel food cake. Any other ideas?

You could make a couple of pound cakes. [:D] Maybe quiche. Egg salad.

meg4 -> RE: what to do with a dozen eggs? (5/16/2008 12:27:13 PM)

Omelettes, deviled eggs, breakfast for supper

According to this article from the Georgia Egg Commission you have at least 2-3 weeks to use them up. I've done it and I'm still alive.

LOL! The last 2 posts were 4 seconds apart.

As to the OP, if you have a big family, you could have scrambled eggs for dinner tonight;

Make 6 batches of cornbread;
OR, 6 batches of brownies;
OR, a combination thereof.

Cookies, cakes, etc.

French toast

boil them

scramble them and serve with pasta;

scramble them and put them in a green salad;

condition your hair;

give some to a neighbor;

have an egg fight with someone.

etc., etc., etc.

I personally cannot understand how eggs can go bad . . .
I buy anywhere from 1-2 dozen of the things each week (and I'm single). LOL

Yeah, you beat me. I guess I'm just having a slow day. I need some caffeine!

Fiddle. If I hadn't taken so long making my previous post, I would have said that before you noticed it. [8D]

Another suggestion:

Make fried rice with veggies and scrambled eggs (and, of course, rice).

Ellie-Mae -> RE: what to do with a dozen eggs? (5/16/2008 12:52:12 PM)

poke a hole thorough the ends and blow out the insides, and then decorate them.

Honestly I never pay any attention to expiration date on eggs. Anyway, most of the time calling that date an "expiration" date is a misnomer. Most of them say "best if sold by..." not "must eat by.... or you will become violently ill and may even die and go to hell"

miasma -> RE: what to do with a dozen eggs? (5/16/2008 1:43:42 PM)

Gosh, I've never paid attention to an expiration date.

I'd boil them and make deviled eggs (curried, or with spinach and parmesan cheese), egg salad, eat them with some salt and pepper. It's surprising how fast they'll go.

Sneak attack on the delinquent that delivers the paper? [8D]

garsyt -> RE: what to do with a dozen eggs? (5/16/2008 1:59:25 PM)

Invite my family over for breakfast and we'll have that dozen gone toot sweet!

We once used an entire dozen that was roughly 4 days past the "expriation date" and everyone was fine.

Blessings,

Garsy

Egg custard, what else?[sm=chef.gif]

That'll take care of 8 of them.[:D]

ROFLOL

With my family of 4 I make some kind of eggs for breakfast and that uses them: scrambled, omlet, french toast, waffles from scratch, flinzen (sort of a crepe that we spread with melted butter and sugar and roll up: a treat) THat uses up a dozen or close to it.

Ellie-Mae -> RE: what to do with a dozen eggs? (5/16/2008 2:46:43 PM)

I was going to make french toast for lunch, but we have run completely out of eggs. That was 15 dozen eggs in less than a month.

Waddaya expect with 300 kids?? [;)] I think I eat 15 dozen eggs in a year. Maybe.

2shaye -> RE: what to do with a dozen eggs? (5/16/2008 5:37:45 PM)

I buy a dozen about once a month or so. I've NEVER paid any attention the expiration date! I'm sure I've eaten eggs that were "weeks" past the date!

Quiche

But eggs last a long time.

agapetos -> RE: what to do with a dozen eggs? (5/16/2008 6:10:06 PM)

If you're really paranoid about them, fill a large bowl with water (cold) and pop the eggs in. If they float at the top, they are getting stale/bad. Standing on end/floating in the middle of the bowl is fine.

sunshine4God -> RE: what to do with a dozen eggs? (5/16/2008 10:45:49 PM)

We have chickens and my mom sells eggs a dollar a dozen.
