You KNEW I HAD to do something. Are YOU prepared (those who live in hurricane areas), and those who don't, are you prepared for your own "disasters" that could happen in your area???

Hey guys, it was BARBI who said something to me yesterday that I used in my presentation that really made people stop and think about how we normally think, and how for learning impaired folks, they use "landmarks" and other things to get around on a normal basis - and what can be one for those folks after a storm when all signs are destroyed or damaged. Barbi rocks.

Good morning CW and welcome to June everyone. Wow, that got here fast! We don't really have disasters, so no worries! About the worst that we get is thunderstorms and I'm sure that I would get little to no sympathy for complaining about getting wet in a thunderstorm!

Ahhh......but you DO get noreasters there and blizzards, so while you may not have them during this time of year, you deal with them in the winter.

noreasters and blizzards aren't bad at all. I guess there was some flooding up in the County a few weeks ago which I'm sure they didn't enjoy. But we don't really get hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc.

True - you're in one of the few areas of the country that's "relatively" safe.

ORIGINAL: sunluvingirl Good-morning to all on this beautiful June morning!! Broyce, my brother & SIL went to Maine on their honeymoon in Oct. and they loved it! They would love to go back again. Oooh, do you know where they went in Maine? I'm guessing probably Acadia, since most of the beaches are too cold in October.

I've never heard of Belfast Harbor Inn, but there very well could be one. The mid-coast region has lots of inns and B&B's, etc. I've actually never been up to Belfast myself but I'm sure it's a nice place to stay.

So far this season I have been in only one tornado warning, and that was in the middle of the night and I slept thru it because they didn't turn on the sirens. The warning area was about 5 miles out of town and it was indicated only by radar and not a spotter. But I saw on the news that Indianapolis got hit yesterday. So Lisa is right we need to be prepared. For weather and everything else.

good june morning, y'all!!!! yes, lisa...i am prepared for emergencies. we don't get near as many tornadoes now as we did when i was young. we used to just go out and watch them cross the fields. couple funny tornado stories: i remember once, when i was maybe 3 or 4...my mom holding me up to look out the basement window...and we watched the middle of our 3 cherry trees get plucked out of the earth like a radish! another time, dad had just come in from the field and we were gettin cleaned up to go into town for dinner...and a tornado came across the field. it had the wind whirling around our little house so that it sucked the screen off their bedroom window...and took dad's 2 workshirts with it. we ran out the back door...and watched one of his shirts fly around the house!! after a couple rotations, he just reached out and grabbed it! (our neighbor 2 fields behind us found dad's other shirt out in his field the next day. lol) but ya know what's 'plagued' us the last few years...straight windss. it's much windier, in general, here...but sometimes we get these straight winds that can be in excess of 70 MPH. they literally flattened much of the corn around here last summer. some was so bad they couldn't even pick it! just horrible for the farmers here.

ORIGINAL: tlims .....are skeeters considered "disasters"??? I think I just might want to call them one. Skeeters are more of a plague than a disaster. :)
