Through the years, corny jokes were always a minstay of SGM performers. Here's one to start. When Li'l Troy Lumpkin was with the LeFevres, Li'l Troy would go off stage and return with a brief case... Uris would say "what you got there Troy"? ...Li'l Troy would reply, "a case" ... Urias, "What you going to do with that case"?.... Li'l Troy, "I'm going to take it to court". then lol

Mike Presnell used to talk about how many brothers and sisters he had. And so many sisters slept in this bed and so many brothers slept in that bed. He said he knew what a water bed was before they got popular.

One of my favorites was right after the Kingsmen changed to the Carolina Boys, Ray Reece would say that his idea for the name was Ray Dean Reece and Reece's Pieces, but the guys wouldnt go for it.

Several Kingsmen stories come to mind....... Little Ernie's audition for the Kingsmen Arthur Rice is so skinny his pinstripe suit has one stripe Parker and "grits" Parker..."you left your injin runnin" Anthony..."Go VOLS!!!!" The Cathedrals.... just about anything that was George and Glen was funny "I just love old people" The Talleys.... Roger, Kirk and Debbie go to PTL and meet Jim and Tammy Of course sometimes the offstage pre and post concert antics are almost funnier than any on stage jokes. But this is another thread for another time.[:D]

One of the first male quartets I remember hearing was the Stamps-Baxter Herchel Foshee Melody Boys QT. This was in 1946 in Southern Ill. I remember Herchel stating that Joe Roper only arranged and wrote shape note songs. In fact the reason he was so good at it, was that he looked like a shaped note.

I love the ones Gerald Wolfe tells about Rodney and Jason...my favorite Rodney joke is the one about what he gets his wife for their anniversary and he calls up the PET (sometimes he says Mayfield:)) milk company to see if they can bring enough milk for his wife to take a milk bath in...the lady at the milk company asks if he wants it "Pasturized" to which Rodney "replies" "Nah, just get it up past her knees" :)....then i also love the one Gerald tells about when Jason was building a new house and was living with Gerald...when Gerald says that he was out at the house "just a hammer'n, and a saw'n, and a hammer'n" it totally cracks me up every time!!

George Younce told a story about Roger Bennett's son Jordan. George said he called Roger's house one day and Jordan answered the phone and he was whispering. George asked if Roger was there and Jordan said "yes" George asked if he could speak to Roger Jordan said "He's busy" George said "what's he doing?" Jordan said "looking for me"[:D]

Well, this wasn't a joke but more a slip of the tongue. I sang with a regional group from NC and we were a mixed trio, two ladies and myself. Well, we had been through 3 soprano singers in a short period of time, all of whom were newlyweds and were now expecting babies. We were at a church that we went to on an annual basis and during the group introductions, our manager and alto singer was intoducing the new soprano and was "trying" to explain why we had had such turnover at the soprano position. The manager said, "We would like to welcome our new soprano singer, I don't know what it is, but all the sopranos keep getting pregnant on out bus", you can imagine the look on my face, not to mention the look of the new girl.

Another story comes to mind when were were in the middle of our stand and had just finished a very fast song and was about to slow things down, we introduced the next song and there was silence (we had a live band). We turned around to the bad to see what the deal was and saw the bass player was wispering something to the piano player and without thought the piano player told us what the problem was, "he (the bass player) just broke his G-string...(the one on his guitar of course...LOL)
