How many times a week do you and your family eat frozen foods?

Miss Giggles -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/15/2008 11:13:11 AM)

I buy a lot, unfortunately. But some of it is healthier stuff like brown rice and sweet potato fries.

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/15/2008 11:15:26 AM)

I voted for never.

I don't eat packaged foods; frozen or otherwise.

(frozen plain veggies don't count in the above . . . but even so, I rarely eat even plain frozen veggies).

lexie -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/15/2008 12:03:22 PM)

I voted once or twice a month. Every once in a while Dh or I will have a pizza pocket!

We eat frozen veggies, and occasionally will buy frozen juice, but even then it's not really once or twice a month. I try to keep us away from packaged foods, especially my daughter, on occasion she'll get chicken strips but it's not a common occurrence.

Mrs.X -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/15/2008 12:38:39 PM)

I voted once or twice a month because I thought she meant frozen dinners like lasagna or pizza. We eat frozen veggies and meat everynight practically, and I get frozen concentrated juice all the time. Pretty much everything I buy that goes bad is put into the freezer since I shop once a month.

About once a month I'll get one of those frozen stirfry's where all you have to do is put it in a pan with a lid or a frozen lasagna. We also eat frozen tatertots or french fries about once a month.

isaacsmom -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/15/2008 3:26:51 PM)

Only frozen vegetables or fruit, once per week or so. Everything else is fresh.

IonMoon -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/15/2008 3:32:24 PM)

Yeah... I might have answered incorrectly... I chose 3+, however... that is only plain veggies and fruit and plain boneless, skinless chicken breasts...

As far as frozen things like meals or other prepared foods, it would be almost never.

yup...that's us. I do keep a few back up frozen meals available (right now they are store bought cause I am lazy at the end of this pregnancy, but usually they are from scratch....just make extra and freeze one of some casseroles, etc. But I am guessing you aren't talking about things like that, right? Right now I have two huge frozen lasagnas in the freezer and a few other "meals" like chicken cordon blue, etc, that we don't normally have. Those re there for when baby comes...and when my mom is here...so that it is easy for her to fix things when we are at the hospital.) We eat frozen veggies all the time....and frozen meats. Put together stuff we tend to stay away from though because of corn syrup allergies in our family...usually things like that have it in there.

danas_mom -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/15/2008 11:40:20 PM)

Well assuming that you mean pre-prepared frozen meals and pizzas, and not just meats or veggies, I voted once or twice a month.

We go thru a bag or two of frozen fries a week (I prepare them in the oven) and usually have breaded chicken once or twice a week - oh and I use frozen cheese ravioli often - but other than unprepared meats and veggies, that's the only frozen stuff we depend on.

ofa23 -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 12:53:00 AM)

There really isn't a poll for how many times I use frozen foods. Its about 3 or 4 times a month. I freeze bread so I get a loaf out, about once a week. I use frozen fruit a lot in smoothies I make for the kids. I get out a prepared frozen meal about once a month. I do take chicken out to thaw and cook about once a week. Love my freezer!!

Roberta_ -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 1:22:04 AM)

I put once or twice a month. In reality the only things that I like from the freezer are ice cubes and ice cream.

Auben -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 3:54:11 AM)

Almost daily.

We buy all our meat once a year. We buy berries in season and freeze them. I freeze garden extras.

We probably eat chicken nuggets and frozen pizza once a week but the rest is seasonal food frozen for later use.

Brandy -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 6:22:52 AM)

Prepackaged foods, lasagna, pasta dishes? RARELY.

Frozen pure foods? Veggies, fruits and breads? Often. Lengthens their life span and their availability for me to use them through out the year.

lexie -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 10:33:57 AM)

I'm so confused, where's the original poster? Is it supposed to be stuff that you buy from the frozen section of the grocery store?

Or does that include fresh stuff (bread, meats, etc) that we buy and then freeze to keep longer? Because in that case, for me it's every day. I buy my meat at the beginning of the month in family packs, then separate it and freeze it for the month.

Us too [:)] 'Cept I have been making extras of our suppers and freezing those for quick and easy suppers on days I don't feel like making anything, so we are eating a lot of frozen meals, but all made by me [:)]

I am hoping to get a huge stash of meat pasties in the freezer ... I did some but we ate them all - two minutes in the microwave and they're as good as fresh! So yummy.

Our grocery store has Hungry Man frozen dinners on sale and combined with a coupon I have for it I can get them for .77 cents each. I am debating buying some.

Has anyone tried Hungry Man? Good? Bad?

ta_mosquito -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 10:55:35 AM)

Posting blind

Very rarely. We have ice cream maybe once every week or two. We don't do sherbets or sorbets. And we don't eat ice (although we sometimes use it in our beverages, where it melts before we ingest it).

So we very rarely eat frozen foods.

ETA: I see DenimDiva beat me to it! [:@]

I'm with you Lexie. The op hasn't made it clear what they're talking about.

I have a freezer. I use it to store food that I've made from scratch, food I buy when it's on offer (bought a couple of free range chickens last week) and some frozen veggies (though I am fussy about frozen veg).

I don't buy convenience foods ever and don't like frozen bread.

I'll probably use it more towards the end of the summer for vegggies as I'm growing a lot myself (unless slugs and snails get them).

My hubby prefers Hungry Man over any other TV dinner. The quality of food is not as tasty as Stoffer's or Marie Callendar, but the meals are large which is important when you are a hungry man. He eats those when I eat at my mom's or the few times I went out of town without him.

HisCovenant -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 12:53:29 PM)

Once or twice a month, and those are plain veggies or plain fruit.

Sometimes I do freeze my own veggies because with it just being the two of us (and one not liking veggies much) I have left over quantities. Right now I have veggie soup, cabbage, black beans, and pinto beans in the freezer.

3cappuccinosmom -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 2:04:15 PM)

Frozen meals, once or twice a month. Usually during a shopping trip I'll pick up an .89c pizza for the boys lunch. [:D]

I didn't know if plain frozen veggies counted. [&:] We eat those 5-6 times/week (usually one bag with each supper).

Ellie-Mae -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 2:08:40 PM)

I don't eat frozen pre-made food anymore. do make my own food and freeze it. we also have a very large freezer that we use a lot for ice cream, veggies, fruit, spinach, french fries, meat and other such stuff.

I wouldn't buy a whole lot at once, just because you don't know if you'll like them. Christina mentioned her husband likes them, and I'm mentioning that my husband doesn't like them, so really it's up to personal taste.

ta_mosquito -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 2:31:48 PM)

We don't do too many frozen dinners. Once in maybe 3 months we do frozen pizza; I usually make my own. I make my own lasagna, etc.

However, I do use frozen pre-made meatballs. They're SO convenient!
And we use frozen fries (potato wedges).
And frozen hamburger patties (hubby likes them better than homemade ones, especially on the grill. In the winter when not using the grill, I'll make my own).
Oh, and frozen waffles. [8|]

I use frozen veggies, berries, juice concentrate, and fish (as in raw filets, not fish sticks), but I don't consider them convenience foods like the above.

And, of course, I freeze meat, veggies, some leftovers, cheese/butter, broth/stock, etc. and use them later.

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 2:46:50 PM)

Okay, I'm the odd ball here, we eat ALOT of frozen dinners (I'm feeling like a bad wifey now...[&o]). I love to cook but dont have the energy too (I think I am lazy) most nights of the week. Alot of times I'll halfway cook, frozen chicken strips and prepared sides. But we have alot of frozen pizzas (well hubby does, I'll usually have something else) and hubby eats frozen burritos and taquitos and such everyday for lunches. We also do frozen entrees on occasion. So for us, its probably 2-3 times a week, some weeks more....[&o]

ETA....FWIW I work full time, I'd probably cook more if I were home. THough its not an excuse, other working wives/moms are able to cook. I think its just poor planning on my part.

Ellie-Mae -> RE: Frozen Food Frequency (6/16/2008 2:59:47 PM)

Erin, We have 10 people that live in our home Which make pre-made meals highly inefficient. MSG (which found in most premade meals and such) gives me migraines. I am a SAHM, and I like cooking and baking. There is no need to feel bad. Every family and their needs are different. As long as making sure that your family is healthy, then there is nothing wrong with using frozen meals.
